Maidana/Lopez, Dawson/Stevenson, Lara/Angulo, Gamboa/Perez – this weekend

maidana32434By Sotoman: Throughout the past few months we have been spoiled with great boxing thrillers, this weekend seems like one of those weekends of boxing that need more talking about.  Lets see!

It looks like Yuriorkis Gamboa will be making his return to the ring under 50 Cents promotional label and looking to help his promoter, after one of 50 cents big name fighters fell in Billy Dib.  Yuriorkis Gamboa looks to score and impressive victory against Darley Perez.  Again, it will be the speed and power of Gamboa that fans will line up to see.  With a win, Gamboa may set himself up for a high profile fight later in the year.

Chad Dawson vs. Adonis Stevenson this Saturday, June 8th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada

1698By Eric Thomas: This Saturday night will be the showdown between WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) and the knockout artist Adonis Stevenson (20-1, 17 KO’s) on June 8th at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada.

Unless this fight ends in a draw, there’s going to be questions answered about the future of one of these guys starting with Dawson. He’s not looked good in quite some time and it could be that he reached his peak early and started going downhill at an early age.

Dawson vs. Stevenson: Chad is going to have to let his hands go if he wants to beat Adonis

dawson3423By Allan Fox: WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) is going to have to change up his game next month in his title defense against Adonis Stevenson (30-1, 17 KO’s) on June 8th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

Dawson, 30, will be fighting Adonis in his adopted country and the judges probably aren’t going to give Dawson a lot of rounds if he fights in his usual economical style that he’s been using for quite some time.

Since 2010, Dawson has been doing just enough to win his fights. He’s not consistent and seems to take a lot of valuable rounds off for some reason. It doesn’t look like it’s a stamina thing, but rather more of a mental thing where he seems to lose focus/interest in the fight for periods. Dawson can’t afford to do that against Adonis because he’ll get knocked out if he disengages mentally from the fight.

Dawson-Stevenson on June 8th: Is Adonis for real?

679By Allan Fox: Next month super middleweight contender Adonis Stevenson (20-1, 17 KO’s) will be moving up in weight to face WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) on June 8th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. It’s only 7 pounds from 168 to 175, so it shouldn’t be that big of a move for the 5’11”, 35-year-old Stevenson.

It is a big move as far as quality opposition goes because Stevenson has been pretty well protected in his 7 years as a pro. In his last fight, he chose to avenge an earlier loss to journeyman Darnell Boone (19-21-3, 8 KO’s).

Dawson vs. Stevenson: Chad in a dangerous fight on June 8th

679By Eric Thomas: WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) is potentially making a big mistake by taking on slugger Adonis Stevenson (20-1, 17 KO’s) next month on June 8th in Stevenson’s home country in Montreal, Canada at the Bell Centre.

Dawson just finished losing to WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward by a 10th round TKO last September in a fight where Dawson was knocked down three times before it was stopped.

Ward: Dawson has a lot to prove against Adonis Stevenson

dawson33By Eric Thomas: WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward feels that the recently beaten WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) needs to prove that he’s still a world class fighter in his next bout against Adonis Stevenson (20-1, 17 KO’s) next month on June 8th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

Ward totally dominated Dawson and stopped him in the 10th round last September and the way that Dawson looked in that fight, he appeared to be a shell of what he was years ago.

Ward said to RingTV “I think he [Dawson] has to show that he still has it…that he is who the fans are used to seeing, and that’s the old Chad Dawson…that he can still take a shot, and that he can deal with a strong guy like Stevenson.”

dawson33By Allan Fox: WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) and challenger Adonis Stevenson (20-1, 17 KO’s) traded barbs earlier today in their press conference to hype their June 8th fight at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Stevenson, 35, is moving up in weight from 168 to challenge the taller and the more experienced Dawson for is World Boxing Council 175 lb. title,

Dawson seemed like he wanted to have it be a nice calm press conference but Stevenson got him riled up when he said: “The one young guy you fought, Jean Pascal, beat you up in Montreal.”
Dawson didn’t take that insult too well and he immediately fired back to Stevenson saying:
