By Scott Gilfoid: This Saturday night on July 30, British heavyweight Dillian Whyte (17-1, 14 KOs) will be facing unbeaten but totally untested 24-year-old Dave Allen (9-0-1, 6 KOs) for the vacant WBC International heavyweight title at the First Direct Arena, in Leeds. These two heavyweights have a lot of bad blood between them due to the trash talking that they’ve done.

On Saturday, they can finally settle things once and for ll to determine which of the two is better. Whyte, 28, is widely considered to be the far better of the two. However, Whyte’s recent shoulder surgery on his left shoulder has left him essentially a one-armed fighter since coming back from surgery last June against Ivica Bacurin.

By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Dillian Whyte (17-1, 14 KOs) will be facing unbeaten Dave Allen (9-0-1, 6 KOs) in a 12 round fight for the vacant WBC International heavyweight title this month on July 30 on the undercard of the Josh Warrington vs. Patrick Hyland fight card at the First Direct Arena in Leeds.

“After yesterday’s news it looks like everyone wants to fight – Leeds July 30 just got even better – @DillianWhyte v @davidthewhiter1 is on!” said Whyte’s promoter Eddie Hearn on his Twitter.

Allen defeated journeyman Jason Gavern by a fourth round stoppage last March. The fight was surprisingly competitive from start to finish. I got the impression watching it that if the 39-year-old Gavern was three years younger, he would have beaten Allen. That’s how competitive the fight was. Gavern gave Allen all kinds of problems.

Dave Allen won’t fight Dillian Whyte until October

By Scott Gilfoid: British domestic level heavyweight Dave Allen (9-0-1, 6 KOs) says that Dillian Whyte (17-1, 14 KOs) is going to need to wait until October before he’ll agree to fight him, because he’s not going to jump inside the ring this month to face him on just three weeks’ notice on July 30 for Whyte’s next fight on the undercard of the Joshua Warrington vs. Patrick Hyland fight card at the First Direct Arena in Leeds.

Whyte needs an opponent for that date, and he’d like nothing better than to fight the 24-year-old Allen. Whyte has also called out former light heavyweight world champion Antonio Tarver for that fight date.

“I’m not going to fight Dillian Whyte on three weeks’ notice when he’s been preparing for the last 10 or 11 weeks for the O2 show. He will have to fight me in October,” Allen said to skysports.com.

Sam Sexton selected by BBBofC to fight for British title

By Jeff Aranow: The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) has rejected the idea of unbeaten Dave Allen (9-0-1, 6 KOs) fighting for the vacant British heavyweight title later this year. They see the 24-year-old Allen as lacking in experience right now for him to be challenging for the British belt. Instead, the Boxing Board has selected 31-year-old Sam Sexton (22-3, 8 KOs) to fight for the British title.

Sexton will be facing Dillian Whyte (16-1, 13 KOs). Sexton has won his last seven fights since going through a rough patch with his career in getting knocked out by David Price by a 4th round knockout in May 2012, and Dereck Chisora.

Those fights showed Sexton’s limitations as a heavyweight. He wasn’t able to compete with either of those guys. Sexton’s best wins of his career came against Martin Rogan, who he defeated twice in a row in 2009.
