Trout’s youth will lead him to victory over Cotto tonight

Image: Trout's youth will lead him to victory over Cotto tonight(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) has been through a lot of ring wars during his 11 year pro career and he’s getting up there in age now at 32. That’s no spring chicken for boxing, especially for smaller fighters like the 5’7″ Cotto. Tonight, Cotto will be in against the younger, taller, and faster WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) at Madison Square Garden, in New York.

Cotto, who comes from nearby Puerto Rico, will have the New York fans backing despite the fact that both of Trout’s parents are from New York, and he spent a lot of time visiting there in his youth.

Marcelo Crudele: Trout will beat Cotto by UD in a very close fight

By Sebastian Hernandez: The upcoming championship bout is a make or break fight for both Austin Trout and Miguel Cotto in which a win is essential to both fighters. Trout, the current WBA super welterweight champion, has already made 4 defenses of his title but has come up short in terms of fame and cash flow. If he were to win this fight his boxing career would skyrocket and he would be able to land big fights with iconic names.

Canelo: I hope Cotto beats Trout

Image: Canelo: I hope Cotto beats Trout(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez took a huge risk by choosing not to fight this December to instead wait around for Golden Boy Promotions to lasso one of the three big names – Floyd Mayweather Jr, Miguel Cotto or Sergio Martinez – that he directed them to for his next fight date on May 4th. Alvarez lost four months of his career with that brilliant move.

By choosing not to fight in December, Canelo flushed down the toilet a big payday that he could have gotten against pretty much anyone that Golden Boy would dug up for him. They could have selected another light welterweight or another welterweight for Alvarez to fight and he’d have made big cash.

Cotto to Trout: You’re facing the fighter of your life

Image: Cotto to Trout: You're facing the fighter of your life(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) was really talking himself up at the weigh-in earlier today for his title challenge against WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) on Saturday night.

Cotto said as quoted by RingTV “I only have one thing to say to him. ‘Come with the fight of your life, because you’re facing the fighter of your life.”

You can make an argument that Trout is taking a step down in competition from his last opponent Delvin Rodriguez, who is both younger and more versatile the 32-year-old Cotto at this point in his career.

Trout: I’m not running from Cotto

Image: Trout: I'm not running from CottoBy Dan Ambrose: WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) says he isn’t going to be lucking to run from Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) on Saturday night in their big fight in Madison Square Garden in New York. Trout is going to meet Cotto’s attacks head on and not look to flee in order to survive.

Trout said “Once that bell rings it’s fight or flight, and I’m ain’t running nowhere.”

That could be bad news for Cotto because he seems to fight better against guys that run from him, and allow him to fight at a slow pace so that he can get plenty of rest breaks. Cotto never did have good stamina even in the early part of his career, but it’s gotten worse as he’s aged. Trout can expose Cotto’s stamina issues if he forces him to fight at a fast pace.

Canelo picks Cotto by KO over Trout

Image: Canelo picks Cotto by KO over TroutBy Dan Ambrose: WBC junior middleweight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez really needs Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) to come out victorious on Saturday night kn his fight against WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) to keep his hopes alive for a big money unification bout with Cotto for May 4th next year.

Alvarez hasn’t gotten any nibbles from Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Sergio Martinez for the May 4th date that Alvarez picked out for his next fight, and it’s like more and more like Alvarez made a rookie mistake by choosing to not to fight in December and thinking that he could get one of the big names to fight him on May 4th.

Trout: I’m going to quiet Cotto’s fans early on Saturday

Image: Trout: I'm going to quiet Cotto's fans early on SaturdayBy Dan Ambrose: WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout’s first goal for Saturday night in his fight against former three division world champion Miguel Cotto is to shut up Cotto’s fans at Madison Square Garden in New York, so that they’re not a factor in encouraging Cotto like they normally are.

Cotto is one of those fighters that fights at a higher level when he’s being cheered by his fans, and there’s going to be a lot of Cotto’s fans at this fight. The Garden holds 20,000 fans, but it’s not expected to be a sellout.

Purses for Saturday: Cotto $1 million, Trout $240 K

Image: Purses for Saturday: Cotto $1 million, Trout $240 KBy Dan Ambrose: For a fighter that no longer holds a world belt and who is coming off of a 12 round decision loss in his last fight, Miguel Cotto (37-3. 30 KO’s) is going to be making out like a bandit on Saturday with his reported $1 million+ payday he’ll be getting for his fight against WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

However, being a world title holder isn’t what it’s cracked up to be nowadays, because the 27-year-old Trout will be getting only $240,000 for this non pay per view bout which will be televised on Showtime.

Cotto-Trout: Where does Miguel go if he loses?

Image: Cotto-Trout: Where does Miguel go if he loses?By Dan Ambrose: Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) lost his last fight, and is kind of at the end of his rope with his bout this Saturday night against WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) in New York. Cotto really doesn’t have a lot of directions he can go in right now in the junior middleweight division if he loses to Trout, because Cotto doesn’t match-up well with WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

I don’t expect Cotto to be able to get that fight if he loses to Trout. I suppose Cotto could look to take on IBF 154 lb champion Cornelius Bundrage or WBO champion Zaurbek Baysangurov, but those are tough fights too for Cotto. I think Bundrage would beat him, and Baysangurov would be a tough fight as well.

Image: Saul "Canelo" Alvarez to attend Cotto-Trout fight on Saturday at Madison Square Garden, NYBy Dan Ambrose: WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) will reportedly be attending this Saturday’s fight between Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO’s) and WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO’s) at Madison Square Garden, in New York, according to RingTV.

Alvarez already told his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions that he wants one of three big names – Cotto, Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Sergio Martinez – for his next fight on May 4th next year. Alvarez even skipped a December fight date that he could have taken in order to wait around to try and land one of the three names on his list.
