By Eric Thomas: Former IBF/WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KO’s) could be back in the ring sparring as soon as July 1st after having successful surgery to clear up a cataract problem in his right eye. Margarito, 33, was planning on not fighting again in 2011 and was shooting for a rematch with Miguel Cotto (36-2, 29 KO’s) for 2012.

Margarito not retiring, says he’s going to take a year off from boxing
By Chris Williams: Former IBF/WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KO’s) won’t be retiring due to eye problems he sustained in his last fight against Manny Pacquiao last November. In an interview at ESPN Desportes Radio, the 33-year-old Margarito said that he plans on continuing his boxing career but will be taking a year off to recover from the damage that he suffered in his mostly one-sided catchweight fight beating at the hands of Pacquiao.
Margarito’s eye injury still a problem, September fight with Cotto in jeopardy
By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF welterweight champion Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KO’s) recent right injury that he suffered in his loss to Manny Pacquiao last November is still giving Margarito a lot problems, enough to where his scheduled September 17th fight against WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto may not be able to take place. Margarito suffered a fractured right orbital bone in the loss to Pacquiao and the injury is failing to heal the way that his team had hoped it would.
Arum says Cotto in the running for a future Pacquiao rematch if he beats Margarito
By Dan Amrbrose: WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (36-2, 29 KO’s) could be in the running for a rematch with Manny Pacquiao if Cotto looks good in beating Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KO’s) in their rematch on September 17th. Bob Arum, who promotes all three of those fighters, recently mentioned that Cotto could help earn a rematch with Pacquiao if he beats Margarito. However, Pacquaio has to win his next fight against the nearly 40-year-old Shane Mosley next month on May 7th, and then possibly a fight against Juan Manuel Marquez or whoever that Arum finds next to put in with Pacquiao.
Cotto to make big money for Margarito rematch
By Jason Kim: WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (36-2, 29 KO’s) is going to make big cash in his September 17th rematch with Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KO’s). The two fighters are slated to go it on pay-per-view at a still to be determined venue. Cotto will likely make the bigger money of the two fighters and could make $5 million or more depending on the number of PPV buys that the fight generates.
Cotto vs. Margarito rematch likely to take place on 7/16
By Dan Ambrose: The rematch between Miguel Cotto (36-2, 29 KO’s) and Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KO’s) will reportedly be taking place on July 16th at a still to be determined venue. The date is still tentative and hasn’t been conclusively nailed down as of yet, but this is when the two fighters will likely be fighting unless one of them is injured while training. Margarito, 33, has been beaten in two out of his last three fights and Cotto, the holder of the WBA junior middleweight title after beating paper champion Yuri Foreman in 2010, has been matched carefully since being stopped by Manny Pacquiao in 2009.
Cotto and the junior middleweight division
By Luis Berrios: Miguel Cotto the proud fighter from Puerto Rico, now a junior middleweight, people are asking “why Cotto hasn’t fight any of the best from the middleweight division?” the reason is simple, he is adapting to this weight class. Cotto moved last year to the junior middleweight division, after the Manny Pacquiao fight. What Miguel is trying to do is fight his way back to the top to get another fight against Pacquiao.
Will Cotto ever fight Lara, Angulo, Williams or Martinez?
By Dan Ambrose: Since Miguel Cotto (36-2, 29 KO’s) moved up to the junior middleweight division last year in June, Cotto has faced two less than dangerous fighters in WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman and 38-year-old Ricardo Mayorga. Cotto won those fights and some boxing fans are under the impression that Cotto is back, and that he’s a changed fighter after suffering bad beatings in defeats to Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao. How people can think that based on Cotto’s less than impressive opposition in his last two fights is beyond me.
Steward sees Cotto fighting Margarito, Chavez Jr. and then Pacquiao
By Dan Ambrose: If trainer Emanuel Steward has his way his fighter WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (36-2, 29 KO’s) will fight Antonio Margarito next in a rematch in July, then Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and finally a rematch with Manny Pacquiao. I hate the thought of Cotto fighting Pacquiao again without Cotto fighting someone really good that can truly test him.
Does Margarito deserve another shot against Cotto?
By William Mackay: I don’t like the idea of 33-year-old Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KO’s) being given an immediate title shot against WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto with Margarito coming off of a brutal 12 round decision loss to Manny Pacquiao last November. For one, I don’t like the idea of fighters that once were fighting well being given a title shot when they just got whipped. They seems so wrong to let someone fight for a title right after they’ve been soundly beaten.
