By Gav Duthie: The city of Hull plays host to their biggest ever boxing spectacle as two local lightweights Luke Campbell and Tommy Coyle lock horns. The event also boasts a good undercard full of boxers with varying agendas – the revenge of Brian Rose on Carson Jones, the latest comeback of two time world champ Ricky Burns and the profile building of heavyweight prospect Dillian Whyte. Here is my take on the fights with predictions.
Luke Campbell 11-0 v Tommy Coyle 21-2
Many fight fans are asking when Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua is going to step up in class. Fellow gold medalist Luke Campbell is definitely being handed a tougher assignment than any Joshua has received in fellow Hull boxer and stablemate Tommy Coyle.
By Scott Gilfoid: Junior middleweight Brian Rose (26-3-1, 8 KOs) knows full well that his career will be on the line in his rematch against high level journeyman Carson Jones (37-10-3, 27 KOs) in a little over a week from now on August 1st at the Craven Park Stadium, Hull, Yorkshire.
By Scott Gilfoid: Former world title challenger Brian Rose (26-3-1, 8 KOs) will pretty much be putting his career on the line in a little over a week from now when he faces high level journeyman Carson Jones (37-10-3, 27 KOs) on August 1st in a scheduled 10 round bout at the Craven Park Stadium, Hull, Yorkshire, UK.
By Gav Duthie: If you can tear yourself away from the wife for 12 rounds on Saturday night there is an intriguing light middleweight match up taking place between outside contenders Brian Rose 26-2-1 (8) and Carson Jones 36-10-3 (26). Rose comes in off the back of a spirited performance against champion Demetrius Andrade where he was completely outclassed. Jones retired late last year only to make a u-turn one week later. Both fighters are having one last crack at the big time and Rose has already admitted he will retire if he loses.
By Scott Gilfoid: Former world title challenger Brian Rose (26-2-1, 8 KOs) is hoping that a victory over 28-year-old journeyman Carson Jones (36-10-3, 26 KOs) next month will lead him down the path to a world title shot.
By Gav Duthie: In a somewhat ironic turn the man who arguably came closest to beating new IBF champion Kell Brook has retired just shy of his 28th birthday. Carson Jones 35-10-3 (25) turns just 28 tommorow but has decided to call it a day in boxing.
By Ciaran McKinney: This bout came to be off the back of numerous delays and then the inevitable cancellation of Kell Brooks’ World Title bout versus Devon Alexander. The special one, in recent times has been ravaged by injury and on his own admission fell out of love with the sport. The first battle between these two, was expected to be a relatively easy step up in class for Brook, however, he got the scare of his life and a true gut-check.
By Mark Havey: Tonight Kell Brook steps into the ring with Carson Jones. It isn’t the first time they have fought. Last year Jones done to Brook what everyone else has failed to do, drag him into the trenches. Brook dominated the first half of their fight but then slowed the pace.
