By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya says that if Gennady Golovkin goes ahead and fights Billy Joe Saunders for his WBO middleweight title in June, it would be disrespectful to them and his fighter Saul Canelo Alvarez. De La Hoya wants Golovkin to sit idle waiting for the fight in September against Canelo, because he thinks it will be too risky and could get in the way of the Canelo fight.
By Allan Fox: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is thinking of giving middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin the percentage that he wanted for him to face their star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in September. De La Hoya says he’s going to speak to Canelo about the idea, according to Dan Rafael. Golden Boy had offered Golovkin a flat fee of $15 million for the Canelo fight, but that offer is a risky one considering that the fight might not do as well as previously thought.
By Dan Ambrose: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has recently been enjoying kicking sand in the face of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez by telling the boxing media that he’s ducking a fight against middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Chavez Jr. says that Canelo is mad at him because he keeps telling the fans that he’s avoiding Golovkin. Chavez Jr. says it’s not his opinion that Canelo is ducking Golovkin. It’s the opinion of everyone that Canelo doesn’t want to fight Triple G.

Canelo says the boxing fans know he’s the best fighter in boxing right now, and he wants to prove that against Golovkin.

De La Hoya saw Golovkin’s fight last Saturday night against Daniel Jacobs and he thinks that the “Miracle Man” Jacobs gave him too much respect. De La Hoya says GGG can expect no respect from Canelo in the future. However, De La Hoya also says that the odds of the Canelo-Golovkin fight taking place are now lower after his fight with Jacobs last Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.
By Allan Fox: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya says middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) didn’t help his chances of making the fight his top guy Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) after his narrow 12 round unanimous decision win over Daniel Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) last Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York. De La Hoya still wants to make the Canelo-Golovkin fight but he feels that Golovkin’s promoters at K2 will need to give in to Canelo in the negotiations for the fight to get made. De La Hoya says that Canelo is the proven A-side in the negotiations. The Canelo-Golovkin negotiations will be resuming this week for their proposed fight in September on HBO PPV.
By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Naazim Richardson thinks that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has the punching power and the boxing skills to give middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin a great deal of problems when the two of them encounter each other in the future. Richardson suggests that the Golden Boy Promotions star Canelo should use his boxing skills to fight Golovkin rather than standing and trading with him. He feels this is the best way for him to deal with Golovkin.
By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy President Eric Gomez is reportedly concerned with the rumors of IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin facing WBO 160 pound champion Billy Joe Saunders on June 10, because it could get in the way of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez facing Triple G in September.
Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler shutdown the Saunders-Golovkin rumors this week by saying that they have no plans on fighting him on June 10. A fight between Golovkin and Saunders would very likely be a short one with the fight ending in 6 rounds or less.
By Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says he doesn’t believe that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya has any intentions of matching his “cash cow” Saul “Canelo” Alvarez against unbeaten middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in September. Arum says that De La Hoya won’t make that fight because he doesn’t want his “cash cow” Canelo to get beaten by Golovkin.
By Joshua Blessman: Is middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin ducking Canelo? Yes, resoundingly in my opinion. Canelo’s promoters at Golden Boy has most recently offered Golovkin $15 million plus some share of the pay-per-view. The previous offer was $10 million. Could Golovkin make anywhere near this amount of money fighting someone else? No way!
His only PPV fight brought in disappointment numbers against David Lemieux. Plus, he has yet to face an A-fighter in a prime or any elite fighters for that matter. Daniel Jacobs will be a step up, but Jacobs is not elite. Golovkin is fighting Jacobs on March 18 on Sky Box Office pay-per-view at Madison Square Garden, New York.
