Golovkin on Canelo’s 155lbs demand “This is not respect to boxing!”

golovkin#236By Tim Fletcher: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) says he thinks that WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) is disrespecting the sport of boxing with his demands for a catch-weight of 155lbs when defending his WBC middleweight title.

Golovkin feels that Canelo is more than ready to fight at the full weight for the middleweight division without the need of a catch-weight handicap of 155lbs. Golovkin sees it totally disrespectful for the 25-year-old Canelo asking to fight at a catch-weight.

There’s talk that Canelo will give Golovkin a take it or leave it offer regarding the 155lb catch-weight that he’s been fighting at. If Golovkin wants the fight against him, he might need to agree to a catch-weight of 155lbs.

The Best Boxing Can Offer?

1-CANELO ALVAREZ 05By The Commissioner: The date is May 1st 2015, the stage is set for the most anticipated fight of all time. The ‘fight of the century’, the fight of all fights, the fight that has dominated sports media for near on a decade. Floyd Mayweather Jr, Pretty Boy Floyd, Money Mayweather finally squares off against the people’s champion; Manny Pacquiao, the Filipino Whirlwind, whom to many observers, is Floyd’s kryptonite.

Fast forward to May 3rd 2015 and social media is awash with negative opinion regarding the supposed ‘Fight of the Century’, many labeling it boring and devoid of any real engagement. The bout came to a predictable ending, at least to the unbiased eye, one uninfluenced by matters of the heart and solely based on logical thinking. Personally, I had always believed that Mayweather was too skilled a boxer to be beaten, or even troubled by Manny but I still tuned in, more to see if Pac-Man could be prove me wrong rather than to see Mayweather prove me right.

Will the WBC force Canelo to fight Golovkin at 160?

golovkin5554(Photo credit: World Boxing Council) By Dan Ambrose: What remains to be seen later this year is whether the World Boxing Council will force their WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to face his #1 WBC challenger Gennady Golovkin at the full weight of 160lbs for their fight?

Golovkin, his promoter Tom Loeffler, and trainer Abel Sanchez, have all said that they will not give in and agree to fight Canelo at a catch-weight of 155lbs. They insist that the fight must take place at 160lbs. Normally, a world champion can only insist that their challengers agree to a catch-weight when it’s a voluntary defense and not a mandatory.

Thoughts on Canelo v GGG in 2016

golovkin5554(Photo credit: World Boxing Council) By Al Classico: A few weeks into 2016 and the talk is heating up about a potential clash between Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez taking place sometime towards the end of the year, most likely around September or so. Hopefully the public demand for this fight will ensure that it happens sooner rather than later and we get to see this mega fight within the year, rather than within the next 5 years as was the case with the Floyd Mayweather Jr. – Manny Pacquiao showdown.

With Canelo being the paper champion at middleweight but having never fought at the full 160 weight limit, the time has come for him  to start answering some real questions; whether he is the real deal or simply a pretender to the throne. He does have legitimate talent with some fantastic skills and has shown a willingness to fight anyone, however, this has recently been overshadowed by the abuse of his star power in ensuring that circumstances and decisions always go his way.

WBC president says Canelo-Golovkin is 50-50 fight

golovkin5554(Photo credit: World Boxing Council) By Dan Ambrose: WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman believes that the unification fight between Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) will go ahead between September and November this year without any snags that could potentially hold it up and keep it from taking place.

Sulaiman isn’t ready to pick a favorite in the fight right now, as he believes it’s a true 50-50 fight. This might be a surprise to some boxing fans, because many believe that Sulaiman likes the 25-year-old Canelo a great deal and wouldn’t like to see him get brutally knocked out by the older Golovkin in this fight. Canelo means a lot to Mexican boxing and it would be a huge blow if he were to suffer a bad KO loss to Golovkin in this fight.

Hopkins: Canelo-Golovkin will happen in September 2016

1-GolovkinLemieux_Hoganphotos1By Dan Ambrose: Bernard Hopkins of Golden Boy Promotions insists the middleweight clash between WBC belt holder Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) and his mandatory challenger Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) will definitely be taking place next year in September.

Hopkins is very confident that the fight will take place despite the concerns that many boxing fans have of it not for one reason or another.

Mayweather says Canelo should duck Golovkin

1-cotto-canelo-m (9)By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. surprised the boxing world this week when he recommended that WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) should go ahead and duck his WBC #1 mandatory challenger Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) just because he considered him a tough opponent for the red-headed fighter. Mayweather thinks that because Canelo is coming off a difficult fight against Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) last month in November, he shouldn’t have to fight Golovkin.

It’s kind of hard pill for a lot of fans to swallow seeing a potentially all-time great like Mayweather advocating that Canelo should duck his WBC mandatory Golovkin. It’s not the stuff of greatness for Mayweather to be openly saying that Canelo should avoid Golovkin because he could make it a difficult fight for him.

Monroe Jr: Canelo is too strong for Golovkin

1-canelo-cotto (4)By Dan Ambrose: Willie Monroe Jr. (19-2, 6 KOs) still believes that WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) is too fast and too strong for the 33-year-old IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady GGG Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs). Monroe Jr. has been singing the praises for the 25-year-old Canelo ever since Golovkin knocked him out in the 6th round earlier this year in May 2015 in a fight in which Golovkin dropped Monroe three times before the fight was halted.

Monroe feels that he had success at times with Golovkin, when the two of them were fighting in close on the inside. Monroe was able to land an occasional shot. However, it also looked like Golovkin was taking it easy on Monroe and not hitting him with full force like he had in the 2nd round of the fight, a round in which he knocked Monroe down twice.

Mayweather thinks Canelo is being rushed into Golovkin fight

golovkin5554(Photo credit: World Boxing Council) By Dan Ambrose: Promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t agree with Golden Boy Promotions quickly looking to match their franchise fighter WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) back into the ring to face unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) in 2016 in what could be a really tough fight for the 25-year-old Canelo.

Mayweather does not like the idea of Golden Boy having Canelo fight another tough opponent after his recent win over 25-year-old Miguel Cotto last November in their fight on HBO pay-per-view.

Is GGG unbeatable?

1-GolovkinLemieux_Hoganphotos1By Listen: Gennady Golovkin has taken the boxing world by storm over the past couple years. Many fans and pundits alike rank GGG very high and often #1 in their pound for pound rankings. It isn’t hard to see what the hype is about.

Golovkin has accumulated 31 knockouts in 34 bouts, which equates to a knockout percentage of over 90. Comparatively Manny Pacquiao’s knockout percentage is only 84%, which of course is nothing to sneeze at, but lower than Golovkin’s higher percentage.
