By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya Tweeted on Wednesday that Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler had agreed to wait until fall 2017 before matching him against Golden Boy fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. However, there wasn’t an agreement from Golovkin’s management on this issue, says Fight News.

“According to the GGG camp, there is no verbal agreement, GBP/Oscar has misstated what has taken place,” said Fightnews.com.

Canelo vs. Golovkin to take place in fall 2017

golovkin633

By Eric Baldwin: Boxing fans hoping to see the mega-fight between IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC heavyweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) and Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs) will need to wait until the fall of 2017, because that’s when Canelo’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions are aiming towards for the fight.

Golden Boy wants the 25-year-old Canelo to have more time to build up his weight so that he’s comfortable fighting at 160 pounds against Golovkin. Further, they also want more time to build up the Canelo-Golovkin fight to make it bigger than it is right now. They feel that by September of 2017, the Canelo vs. Golovkin fight should be big enough to stage it at that time. Some boxing fans might say that Canelo is pulling a Floyd Mayweather Jr. by waiting Golovkin out until he’s old and lost his skills like Manny Pacquiao had when Mayweather finally got around to fighting him.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin update

dela7

By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya says he’s waiting for his fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s court case in Florida to end before he restarts negotiations with IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s promoters at K2 to see if they can negotiate a fight for 2016.

Canelo and Golden Boy have a lawsuit that they need to get out of the way first before negotiations can begin again with the Kazakhstan fighter. The good news for boxing fans is that court case is expected to be completed soon, according to De La Hoya. However, that does not mean that we’re going to see a fight between Canelo and Golovkin.

“I’m busy in Florida. Loeffler is over there in Europe doing his thing,” said De La Hoya to Fighthub. “I have to focus on this court case, which will end soon.

Canelo-Golovkin doubtful for 2016, says Rafael

golovkin633

By Eric Baldwin: It doesn’t look like the much talked about fight between IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs) will be taking place in 2016, according to Dan Rafael. Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler is out of the country right now and Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions are still dealing with a lawsuit with Canelo’s past promoters. It is unknown how long that trial will last.

Even when Canelo’s legal problems are over with, it’s doubtful that we’ll see the Canelo-Golovkin fight take place this year. Canelo still has other options for good money fights against beatable fighters like Miguel Cotto, middleweight David Lemieux, Billy Joe Saunders, WBO 154lb champion Liam Smith, and a number of welterweights like Danny Garcia, Kell Brook, Keith “One Time” Thurman, Shawn Porter and Tim Bradley.

By Askhat Bapiev: It’s not smart to feed your vain hope and rely only on luck that one day you’re going to get what you wanted. I mean in all great boxing tales there is only one fight that absolutely can change the course of personal legend of any boxers and forever.

And we are talking about the fight which can make the world learn your name or forget you as a boxer at a such tender age.

Golovkin vs. Canelo needs to happen now

golovkin633

By Patrick McHugh: The general belief is that Golden Boy Promotions doesn’t want their cash cow Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs) to face IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 Kos) right now because the 25-year-old Mexican Canelo is making too much money fighting sure thing opposition like Amir Khan, Miguel Cotto, James Kirkland and Alfredo Angulo.

The thought is that Golden Boy will only give Canelo the green light to fight Golovkin once their golden goose has laid enough golden eggs to the point where it won’t matter as much if he takes the fight and loses badly to Golovkin. The fortunes will have already been made by then, so it won’t hurt as much to see Canelo get beaten. However, the boxing wants to see Golovkin and Canelo face each other right now rather than wait for the fight to take place years from now when Golovkin is old and harmless for Canelo.

Robert Garcia in favor of Canelo’s decision to vacate WBC title

By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Robert Garcia is in favor of what Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez did recently in vacating his WBC middleweight title when he was pressured by the World Boxing Council with a deadline for negotiations with Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.

Garcia says Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy made a good business decision to vacate the WBC belt. Garcia thinks it doesn’t matter if the Canelo-Golovkin fight takes place this year because it’ll still be a big fight a year from now when the two fighters do face each other.

By Patrick McHugh: Former two division world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Golden Boy Promotions is dealing with a lawsuit this week with another promoter in Miami, Florida. Once Canelo and has taken care of that problem, he and Golden Boy are expected to restart the negotiations with IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and his promoter Tom Loeffler to try and put together a fight on September 17 for AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

There’s also reportedly a chance that if Canelo and Golovkin can’t iron out a deal for September this year, they’ll face each other in May of 2017 on the Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo.

Boxing Fans must force the Canelo vs. Golovkin fight

Image: Boxing Fans must force the Canelo vs. Golovkin fightBy Robbie Bannatyne: Boxing is a business, a sport where financial imperatives take precedence over the principles of elite athletic competition where the best should be duty bound to face the best.

The murky waters of the boxing world were muddied further with the news that Canelo has vacated his WBC middleweight title, in what seems to many, a naked attempt to navigate his way around a fight with mandatory challenger, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.

Canelo vacates WBC title to have more time to negotiate Golovkin fight

Image: Canelo vacates WBC title to have more time to negotiate Golovkin fightBy Dan Ambrose: In a statement released moments ago, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez announced that he’s vacating his WBC middleweight title so that he can have more time to negotiate a fight against interim WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin without the fast approaching deadline that the World Boxing Council had put in place before a scheduled May 24 purse bid.

Canelo says he’s still interested in negotiating the fight with Golovkin. He just doesn’t want the pressure from the WBC in their purse bid. The question now is whether Canelo was serious about still wanting to negotiate the fight with Golovkin. The fact that Canelo gave up the WBC title without asking for an extension is an odd one because the WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman surely would have given Canelo an extension if he had asked for it.
