Hearn says Kell Brook vs. Errol Spence possible for Sheffield

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn has his sights set on staging his title defense against Errol Spence in his hometown in Sheffield in the UK. Hearn is open to the idea of staging the Brook-Spence fight in the States if the money is there for the other. If not, then he wants to have it take place in Sheffield. Hearn is talking about pushing the Brook vs. Spence fight all the way to June 4. I guess the idea is to give Brook as much time as possible for his surgically repaired right eye to recover. I don’t think it will make much of a difference. It’s not Brook’s eye that will give him problems against the talented Spence, it’s the body punching that he’ll be doing. Spence is arguably the best body puncher in the 147lb division right now, and Brook doesn’t seem to take it too well when getting hit to the body. Hearn can put the Brook-Spence fight off for as long as he wants, but I don’t see it changing the outcome.

If the fight takes place in Sheffield, it might help the 30-year-old Brook gain a small advantage over Spence (21-0, 18 KOs) in terms of the support from the boxing fans. The IBF has given Brook and Spence’s management one week to put the fight together before a purse bid on February 14.

Will Brook’s eye holdup under Errol Spence’s punches?

By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Eddie Hearn says he’s close to making a deal with American contender Errol Spence’s management for a fight against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook. This is a move to avert a purse bid, which has now been moved from the original date of February 7 to February 14. If things go smoothly with the negotiations, we should see a deal made between Brook and Spence before February 14.

“We’ve asked for a week’s extension from the IBF because I feel we’re very close to making a deal,” said Brook’s promoter Hearn to skysports.com.

Khan-Brook: Will fans lose interest if Spence beats Brook?

Image: Khan-Brook: Will fans lose interest if Spence beats Brook?

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook and his promoter Eddie Hearn tried like mad to get Amir Khan to agree to a fight in the first half of 2017, but he chose to put the match off and encourage him to fight Errol Spence Jr. instead. Brook appears on the verge of finally agreeing to the Spence fight after months of what some boxing fans saw as stalling.

There is a purse bid for the Brook vs. Spence fight scheduled a week from now on February 14. The original purse bid was scheduled for February 7 for the Brook-Spence fight. They hope to have a deal made before the February 14th purse bid, but you never know. It wouldn’t be surprising if there is another postponement.

Kell Brook vs. Errol Spence purse bid to be delayed 1 week

Image: Kell Brook vs. Errol Spence purse bid to be delayed 1 week

By Scott Gilfoid: The scheduled purse bid for this Tuesday for the Kell “Special K” Brook vs. Errol Spence fight has been put off by one week, as the two fighters’ management are said to be close to a deal, according to Dan Rafael. It looks like Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn is getting cold feet all of a sudden at the thought of the fight going to a purse bid.

Spence has a high powered manager in Al Haymon, who would have a very good chance of winning the purse bid. If Spence’s management wins the purse bid, then you can bet they would stage the fight in the U.S, and that would eliminate any real chance of Brook winning.

Errol Spence: I’m at the neck ain’t no letting up

Image: Errol Spence: I'm at the neck ain't no letting up

By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten #1 IBF Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) says he’s at the neck of IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) and he’s not letting up. After months and months of waiting for his title shot, Spence has a purse bid scheduled on Tuesday, February 7 with Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn.

Whether Spence’s manager Al Haymon can win the bid or not is of less importance than him finally being on the verge of getting a crack at Brook or the IBF belt. Hearn has said repeatedly that he thinks Brook should vacate the IBF title because it depletes him to have to melt down to 147 to make weight.

Ingle: Kell Brook can make 147 for the right fight

Image: Ingle: Kell Brook can make 147 for the right fight

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook’s trainer Dominic Ingle says he can make the 147lb limit for the right fights that are considered the big ones. He says Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) doesn’t want to go through the trouble to make 147 for fights that he doesn’t consider to be big fights. There’s a purse bid scheduled for February 7 next week for the Brook vs. Errol Spence Jr. fight.

The problem is that Brook has been ordered by the International Boxing Federation to fight his mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs). The way Ingle talks, it sounds almost as if the fight has to be considered a huge one just to get him to put in the effort to make the 147lb limit.

Hearn says Spence isn’t big enough fight for Brook

Image: Hearn says Spence isn’t big enough fight for Brook

By Scott Gilfoid: Eddie Hearn is bellyaching about unbeaten IBF mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) not being a big enough fight for his fighter IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) to be fighting. Hearn says that it’s his job as the promoter to put his fighters in fights that are big enough in comparison to the risk involved, and he doesn’t see the Spence fight being big enough to be worth the risk.

The problem is that Brook doesn’t want to vacate his IBF 147lb title to dodge the Spence fight. Moreover, Spence just won’t go away. He’s like a shark that smells blood in the water. He’s circling Brook and ready to tear him to pieces if he doesn’t give up his IBF title and skedaddle the way that Hearn wants him to.

Spence’s trainer expects Brook fight to happen by May or June

Image: Spence’s trainer expects Brook fight to happen by May or June

By Scott Gilfoid: Derrick James, the trainer for unbeaten #1 IBF Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs), expects for his fighter to be getting a title shot against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) by May or June of this year, and he doesn’t mind that the fight might take place in the UK.

James is confident that Spence will do the job on Brook and take his title from him. James saw Brook’s recent 5th round knockout loss to IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin on September 10 last year, and he wasn’t overly impressed with what he saw from Brook.

Hearn says Brook-Spence decision will be made on Friday

Image: Hearn says Brook-Spence decision will be made on Friday

By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says right now it’s looking like it’s between 70 and 80 percent that his fighter IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) will be facing mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) in his next fight.

Hearn says the decision will be made this Friday. He still wants Brook to vacate his IBF title and move up to 154, because he feels that it’s too hard for him to make the weight for the division, even though Spence has to take off the exact same amount of weight as Brook.

Brook-Spence likely heading to purse bid on Feb.7

Image: Brook-Spence likely heading to purse bid on Feb.7

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn says IBF mandatory challenger Errol Spence’s manager Al Haymon failed to accept an offer he made to him for a Brook-Spence fight. Hearn says he believes that Haymon wants the fight to go to the purse bid on February 7 so that he can win that bid.

Brook would get a 75/25 purse split if it goes to a purse bid. I don’t think Spence cares that he’ll get the smaller money. He just wants to beat Brook and take his IBF title so that he can use the belt for unification fights. Brook is just someone standing in Spence’s way. Spence is seen as the future of the welterweight division.
