Khan: I think Brook needs to fight Errol Spence

Image: Khan: I think Brook needs to fight Errol Spence

By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan has given his final word on the Kell Brook situation, and he says he needs to stay at 147 and defend his IBF welterweight title against his mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. in his next fight. Khan says he might give Brook the 50-50 percentage cut he’s looking for against him if he takes the Spence fight and beats him. It’s a good investment for Khan to push Brook into the Spence fight, because it could make their fight HUGE if Brook wins.

Khan isn’t going to be Brook’s lifeline to save him from having to fight Spence. Khan says he won’t do that. He wants Brook to take the fight no matter how much risk involved. After all, Brook was game when his challengers were the likes of Jo Jo Dan, Frankie Gavin and Kevin Bizier. If he’s the No.1 fighter in the 147lb division, then facing and beating Spence shouldn’t be a problem at all for him.

Kell Brook to decide in next 2 weeks whether to fight Spence

Image: Kell Brook to decide in next 2 weeks whether to fight Spence

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook says he’s going to diet and takeoff weight to see if it’s feasible for him to move back down to 147 to defend against his IBF mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. Brook says he could move up to 154 if he can’t make weight. However, it doesn’t appear that Brook’s heart is really into the Spence fight. Brook might not only lose to Spence, but it could be a bad knockout loss for him. Once Brook loses to Spence by a knockout, then he can forget about big fights against the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan, Danny Garcia or Keith Thurman. To get the top fights in boxing, you must achieve. It looks like Brook is taking the backdoor route to the big fights by him losing to Gennady Golovkin and then possibly avoiding the Spence fight. It’s sad when you think about it.

Brook says he would make 147 for the big fights against Amir Khan, Manny Pacquiao, Danny Garcia or Keith Thurman. But when it comes to making a defense of his IBF title against Spence, Brook doesn’t seem nearly as thrilled at that idea. When you’re a champion like Brook, you can’t pick and choose ALL of your opponents.

Brook frustrated that he may need to fight Spence

Image: Brook frustrated that he may need to fight Spence

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook is bellyaching that he can’t get a big fight against one of the top stars in the 147lb division, and that he may need to defend his title next against his mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. or else be forced to give up his IBF title by the International Boxing Federation.

Brook doesn’t understand why he can get a big money fight against Amir Khan, Danny Garcia, Manny Pacquiao or Keith Thurman. The problem that Brook has is pretty clear. Those guys are all busy or have other plans. The fights happen rarely, and there’s a lot of waiting involved with them. Look at Garcia and Thurman.

Brook: The fans don’t know who Errol Spence is

Image: Brook: The fans don't know who Errol Spence is

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook hasn’t officially vacated his IBF welterweight title yet to avoid the dangerous an incredibly talented Errol Spence Jr., but it appears that he’s heading in that direction now.

On Friday, Brook dropped the biggest hint possible in showing his hand that he’s going to steer around the fight against the 2012 U.S Olympian Spence by saying that the boxing public doesn’t know who he is. Moreover, Brook also said that if he’s going to go through the trouble of going back down to 147 for a fight, it’s going to be a big money fight against one of the following names: Amir Khan, Manny Pacquiao, Danny Garcia or Keith Thurman.

Hearn wants Brook to fight Khan on May 20 or 27

Image: Hearn wants Brook to fight Khan on May 20 or 27

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn wants him to bypass his IBF ordered fight against mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. and instead take the fight against Amir Khan (31-4, 19 KOs) next on May 20 or May 27th. Hearn says that Khan and Brook should forget about taking a warm-up fight in between their big money match-up.

Hearn feels that it’s not a smart move for either of them to wait on the fight until later in the year, especially for Brook (36-1, 25 KOs). If Brook stays at 147, it would mean that he would need to defend his IBF welterweight title against the talented Errol Spence (21-0, 18 KOs), and Hearn sees that as a really hard fight for him.

By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan has once again made it perfectly clear that he wants Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) to do the right thing by facing his mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) as ordered by the International Boxing Federation in order to keep his IBF welterweight title.

There’s a lot of speculation going on with fans believing that Brook will vacate his IBF title any day now to avoid fighting Spence. Brook would have everything to lose facing Spence, who is viewed as the next superstar in the sport.

Kell Brook vs. Errol Spence is 50-50 fight says Bellew

Image: Kell Brook vs. Errol Spence is 50-50 fight says Bellew

By Scott Gilfoid: According to WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew, the fight between IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) and No.1 IBF Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) is a 50-50 fight that will make only one-tenth the amount of money that a fight between Brook and Amir Khan (31-4, 19 KOs) will bring in.

Bellew thinks Brook and Khan should face each other instead of other fighters. There are a couple of problems that are preventing them from facing each other straightaway. Firstly, Khan wants a tune-up fight in April, because he’s coming off of hand surgery and a REALLY bad knockout loss to middleweight contender Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last year in May 2015.

Khan says he won’t respect Brook if he vacates title to avoid Spence

Image: Khan says he won’t respect Brook if he vacates title to avoid Spence

By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan says he heard that Kell Brook is thinking of vacating his IBF welterweight title to avoid fighting his mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs), who the International Boxing Federation is saying that he needs to fight next. Khan says he doesn’t respect a fighter who vacates their titles to avoid a difficult mandatory challenger.

Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) hasn’t vacated his IBF 147lb title yet, but it’s quite possible he will do just that. One reason for Brook giving up his IBF title potentially is the big money fight that has just over the horizon with Khan.

Why Kell Brook should fight Spence over Khan

Image: Why Kell Brook should fight Spence over Khan

By Gav Duthie: The night is nearly over and the nightclub is closing. Your desperate to get some company for the evening and there aren’t many options left. The girl you’ve been avoiding all evening now starts to look appealing. Amir Khan finds himself in this situation selecting his next opponent. He has nowhere to go after the Canelo defeat and the 4th loss of his career. He realises nobody else will make him anymore money, respect or credibility than Kell Brook. Brook is like the kid in the sweet shop when he is allowed whatever he wants. He has craved nothing more than to fight Khan for years.

Despite that burning desire to end Khan’s career I think he should fight his IBF mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jnr. Here’s 3 reasons why:

Brook’s fight against Spence in limbo with Khan emerging

Image: Brook’s fight against Spence in limbo with Khan emerging

By Jeff Aranow: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook was supposed to be defending his IBF title next against his mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr., but that fight is now questionable after Amir Khan said that he wants to fight Brook next. Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn is now looking to make the fight between him and Khan.

Hearn says he still has a long ways to go in the Brook-Khan negotiations, but he’s optimistic. Hearn isn’t willing to say right now that Brook will need to vacate his IBF welterweight title in order to fight Khan, but it’s starting to look that way. There’s little chance of the Brook vs. Spence fight happening if the Brook-Khan fight takes place.
