Broner vs. Malignaggi to be televised by Showtime on June 22nd

broner545By Allan Fox: The June 22nd fight between WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) and Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) won’t be televised by HBO when the two fighters meet at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York, USA. Instead, the fight will be aired by Showtime, according to Dan Rafael and Kevin Iole.

They’re reporting that HBO will no longer be televising Golden Boy Promotions fighters for some reason. They’ll focus on showing other fighters from other promotional companies like Top Rank instead.

This is a huge move for HBO because they’ve been building up the 23-year-old Broner by televising all of his fights in the past two years, and he could possibly become a huge pay-per-view star in the future. If Broner becomes boxing’s #1 fighter in the future, HBO may wish they were still televising Broner’s fights.

Malignaggi to Broner: Shut up and sign the contract

malig434By Scott Gilfoid: WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) seems to be concerned whether WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) is having second thoughts about facing him after hearing rumors that Broner wasn’t excited about the idea of having to face Malignaggi in New York in front of what could be a packed house full of Malignaggi’s fans on June 22nd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Malignaggi said to RingTV “Stop b****** and sign the contract…let’s do it. Now, I’m hyped.”

Broner fires back at Malignaggi: You don’t stand a chance

broner44By Scott Gilfoid: In response to the comments made from WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi yesterday about Adrien Broner being afraid to fight him in New York, Broner fired back that Malignaggi better be heavily armed when he enters the ring on June 22nd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, because Broner plans on knocking the 32-year-old champion clean out.

Broner said to RingTV, “I ain’t saying s***. F*** Paulie!..I’m f****** him up!…He doesn’t stand a chance…I’m getting that money.”

Malignaggi must be hearing his news rumors from a storybook writer because it doesn’t seem like a reliable source if he believes Broner’s having second thoughts about the fight. It’s easy for Broner, and he’s not going to walk away from the fight even with it being staged in Malignaggi’s home city of New York.

Malignaggi: I’m hearing Broner is scared to fight me in New York

broner655By Scott Gilfoid: WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) says he’s hearing that WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) is having issues with their June 22nd fight taking place in Malignaggi’s home city of New York at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Malignaggi, 32, says he’s starting to think the 23-year-old Broner is scared to fight him in New York.

Thurman: Malignaggi better fight Broner or else he’ll have to fight me

thuman32By Dan Ambrose: Undefeated welterweight contender #4 WBA, Keith Thurman (20-0, 18 KO’s) is impatient to get a title shot against one of the welterweight champions after his impressive 12 round unanimous decision win over former IBF welterweight champion Jan Zaveck last Saturday night in Brooklyn, New York.

Thurman thinks the current welterweight champions are mainly just interested in facing smaller guys from the lower weight classes rather than fighting true welterweights like himself.

You can’t disagree with that in some ways because Floyd Mayweather Jr. is fighting a former lightweight, and WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley is fighting a light welterweight this Saturday against Ruslan Provodnikov, and WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi is facing lightweight Adrien Broner on June 22nd.

Malignaggi: Broner will have problems with my size

malignaggi231By Dan Ambrose: WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) thinks one of the problems that Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) will be having with him in their fight on June 22nd is Malignaggi’s heavier size compared to the lightweights that Broner has been fighting up until now. Malignaggi believes this is going to be just one area where he’ll have an edge over the 23-year-old Broner.

Malignaggi said to RingTV “I’m very confident in my ability to beat him [Broner]. I think there are weight classes for a reason. That’s one of the reasons why he’s going to have problems with me…I don’t think he’s been forced to think in there yet. He’s won based on talent alone…he’s going to have to think his way through.”

Broner vs. Malignaggi on June 22nd

malignaggi34By Steven Ocallaghan: It looks like the proposed fight between WBA welterweight champion “Magic Man” Paulie Malignaggi and Adrien “The problem” Broner is nearly done and rumored to take place on June 22. Malignaggi 32-4 is a relatively light puncher with only 7 stoppages in his career while Broner 26-0 with 22 stoppages does hit heavy. The thing with both guys is that even though they are both fast , they are both quite easy to hit, which I think will play into Broner’s hands.

There is not a lot of height difference between them and weight wise, even though Broner is jumping up a couple of classes they again will be pretty much suited.

Broner vs. Malignaggi almost done, says Schaefer

malign1By Dan Ambrose: WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) will be facing WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) on June 22nd in a fight that will likely be televised by HBO rather than Showtime from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told RingTV last night that the Broner-Malignaggi fight is “Basically done.”

Schaefer had been attempting to match Broner against WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns in a unification bout, but Burns is still under contract with Frank Warren and is scheduled for a unification bout against Miguel Vazquez next.

Broner to Malignaggi: Let’s put on a show!

broner563By Scott Gilfoid: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) challenged WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) for a fight on June 22nd earlier today on twitter.

Broner said to Malignaggi, “The people want to see us out on a show. Let’s get this money and stun in Bentleys this Summer.”

Broner added “Nobody will beat me.”

It really didn’t require for Broner to challenge Malignaggi to make this fight happen because the driving force is Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, who wants the fight to happen on June 22nd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York because of the huge interest the fight would generate.

broner422225By Scott Gilfoid: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) may be moving up to 147 for his next fight to challenge WBA champion Paulie Malignaggi on June 22nd, but Broner is making it clear that he’s willing to face anyone from the lightweight to the junior middleweight division if they have the name and can draw fans.
