Malignaggi: Broner should give me a rematch; people know who really won

malignaggi454By Eric Thomas: Former WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-5, 7 KO’s) feels he should have been given the decision in his title defense against Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) last Saturday night, and he wants a rematch with him.

Malignaggi thinks the fans who saw the fight know who really won that fight, and he wants a second chance to prove that he’s the better fighter.

Malignaggi said this as quoted by USAtoday.com “He would give me a rematch because he knows who won that fight. I think the majority of people who once they’re not influenced by the Compu-box numbers, which are total BS anyway, you know who really won that fight.”

Adrien Broner vs. Paulie Malignaggi review

broner878By Peter Wells (twitter @boxingbrains): Last Saturday night, the controversial Adrien Broner took another small step towards filling the potential that his trash-talk has promised. A tough-to-score fight ended in fittingly controversial fashion, as fans were split on who should have been given the nod.

Broner threw less but his accuracy was hard to ignore, while the former WBA Welterweight champion, Paulie Malignaggi threw punches like they were going out of fashion, yet his work rate didn’t result in shots landing all that often.

Broner vs. Malignaggi brings in 1.3 million viewers on Showtime

broner11111By Eric Thomas: Last Saturday night’s fight between unbeaten Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) and WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-5, 7 KO’s) brought in 1.3 million viewers on Showtime. This was only slightly less than the 1.4 million views that Broner’s previous fight against little known Gavin Rees brought in last February on HBO.

The reason why that fight brought in better numbers than the Broner-Malignaggi bout was because HBO has larger subscriber base. If you put Broner-Malignaggi fight on HBO, the numbers would likely be in the 1.5 to 1.6 million views if not more.

Broner’s last two fights are now the biggest fights on cable this year, according to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports.

Malignaggi: “The Problem’s” problem

broner33455By Donald Crisp: After many weeks of non-stop trash-talk between Paulie Malignaggi and Adrien “The Problem” Broner, the fight that many have been anticipating, if for nothing else just to see the fireworks unfold, ended leaving us with more questions than it answered.  Most of the questions have to do with Adrien Broner’s merits:  How good is he?  Did he prove anything? Did this fight help or hurt him?  And what about Paulie – if Adrien Broner is as good as he (and/or we) thinks, does that mean Paulie is still a legitimate contender?

Both men made promises in their pre-fight bashing:  Broner promised to knock Malignaggi out; Malignaggi promised to expose Broner and defeat him.  Neither of them walked the talk, but who came closer?

Mayweather: Broner was flat-footed [against Malignaggi]; he has a lot to learn

broner66By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. didn’t sound too impressed with Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) in evaluating his 12 round split decision win over Paulie Malignaggi (32-5, 7 KO’s) last Saturday night. Mayweather Jr. says that he thought Broner should have knocked Malignaggi out, and he didn’t like the way he was just standing in front of him. Mayweather Jr. says Broner has got a lot of things he needs to improve on his game.

Mayweather Jr. said to esnewsporting “There’s a lot of things he [Broner] still needs to learn. I thought he should have got the knockout. He was flat-footed. With my career, they try to compare the two, and I love the kid, but you got to look at my career. I had already fought a guy that was crafty at 21 in Genaro Hernandez.”

How special is Adrien Broner?

broner33455By Mark Havey: Last night we witnessed the controversial Adrien Broner, beat the equally outspoken Paulie Malignaggi via a split decision. Both men had engaged in a bitter war of words through the media and regularly inflicted insults upon each other on twitter. A source of leverage in this bitter feud happened to be a women who they had both been romantically involved with, to be polite.

The fight itself was frustrating at times. It wasn’t boring to watch, thanks to Paulie. I thought the ref should have done a better job at keeping order. Numerous fails committed by Broner should have been punished. Both men spent too much time talking to each other. Fans don’t pay to watch talking.

Malignaggi wants a rematch against Broner

broner0009By Allan Fox: The beaten Paulie Malignaggi (32-5, 7 KO’s) says he wouldn’t mind getting a rematch with Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) to try and recapture his WBA welterweight title that he lost to Broner last Saturday night by a 12 round split decision at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Malignaggi feels that he shouldn’t have lost that fight and that he did more than enough to deserve the decision by him out-working Broner the entire fight. Malignaggi thinks it was boxing politics that led to him losing the fight in his own hometown.

Malignaggi said “Yeah, it’ll be nice to get a rematch. It would be cool to get a rematch. A rematch would appeal to me. If Broner would want to make a statement and win more conclusively, I would be open to it.”

Broner v Malignaggi, good, bad and very ugly

broner6534By Hayesa: Last night we finally got a conclusion to the war of words between Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) and Paulie Malignaggi (32-5, 7 KO’s) after weeks of both men exchanging words it was time for them to exchange punches.

It was a much anticipated showdown partially due to both fighters ability to verbally promote this match up, but also fans were interested to see if Malignaggi could be the man that stops Broner’s unbeaten streak.

From the opening bell it was Malignaggi that proved to be the busier man with Broner standing his ground and aiming to cut off Malignaggi’s every move, but even though the older man was busiest he was also the weakest, and every punch thrown was just shrugged off by Broner.

Mayweather Jr: Adrien Broner is the future of boxing; he’s like a young Floyd

broner555By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. was pouring compliments over the head of Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) last night in between rounds of Broner’s fight with WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-5, 7 KO’s) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Mayweather Jr. was saying that Broner is the future of the sport and that he reminds Mayweather Jr. of himself when he was younger.

The compliments that Mayweather Jr. was giving Broner seemed to be out of sorts with the reality that was taking place in the ring last night because Broner looked for 12 rounds, and nothing like a future great.
