Provodnikov says his #1 goal is a rematch with Bradley

provodnikov32By Chris Williams: #3 WBO welterweight contender Ruslan Provodnikov (22-2, 15 KO’s) is holding out hope that WBO 147 lb. champion Tim Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) will decide on facing him next as he’s recovered from their March 16th fight that Bradley won by a 12 round unanimous decision.

Provodnikov, 29, is willing to wait to get that fight again so that he can attempt to avenge the defeat and capture Bradley’s WBO welterweight title.

Provodnikov said to thaboxingvoice.com “For me rematch is the number 1 on my priority, I’m ready to fight him whenever. I know he needs some time to recover but I’m ready.”

I think Provodnikov needs to speak with Bob Arum, the promoter of Bradley, because Arum has already said there won’t be an immediate rematch. He wants to put Bradley in bigger fights against the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez or Brandon Rios. Arum hinted that he might put Provodnikov in with Mike Alvarado.

Bradley-Provodnikov televised replay tonight on HBO @ 10:35 p.m. ET/PT

bradley17By Eric Thomas: If boxing fans want to see the replay of the Tim Bradley vs. Ruslan Provodnikov fight then they need to tune in to HBO tonight at 10:35 p.m. ET/PT to check out this Fight of the Year candidate. Also on HBO tonight will be a replay of the Road to Rios-Alvarado II that will be shown after the Bradley vs. Provodnikov replay.

Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) is quite fortunate that he was able to escape the Provodnikov fight with his title still in his possession because he could have lost the fight had the referee called 10-8 rounds in the 1st, 2nd and 6th rounds when Bradley badly hurt.

Arum rules out Bradley vs. Provodnikov rematch

bradley777By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has no interest in match his fighter WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) back up with Banner Promotions fighter Ruslan Provodnikov (22-2, 15 KO’s) for a rematch, even though boxing fans want to see the two fighters go at it again after enjoying their fight last Saturday night.

Arum is satisfied with the 12 round unanimous decision that Bradley got in that fight, and he now plans on matching him with one of his Top Rank stable fighters – Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez, Brandon Rios or Mike Alvarado next.

Bradley-Provodnikov delivers 1.2 mil viewers on HBO + 274K on replay next day

bradley18By Chris Williams: Bob Arum can’t say WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) can’t draw good ratings now because his fight last Saturday night against Ruslan Provodnikov (22-2, 15 KO’s) delivered a huge 1.2 million viewers on HBO, according to RingTV. That’s not all.

The next day, Bradley vs. Provodnikov pulled in 274,000 fans to see it on replay on HBO, which outside the Bernard Hopkins vs. Tavorius Cloud fight on replay. The 1.2 million viewers that saw the Bradley-Provodnikov fight was identical to the numbers that the Hopkins vs. Cloud fight drew on HBO.

Will Tim Bradley be the same fighter after the beating he took?

bradley14By Dan Ambrose: WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) is still in possession of his World Boxing Organization 147 lb. title after beating the #3 WBO Ruslan Provodnikov (22-2, 15 KO’s) by a grueling 12 round unanimous decision last Saturday night, but there’s a possibility that Bradley won’t be the same fighter after the beating he took in that fight.

Bradley was badly hurt in the 1st round, and he continued to get hurt in the 2nd, 6th and 12th rounds of the fight. In his own words, Bradley said “I think I have a concussion” after the fight. The way that he was giggling and acting kind of punch drunk from the punishment he had absorbed, you have to suspect he was correct.

Provodnikov likely won’t get a rematch against Bradley

bradley25By Eric Thomas: Despite fighting well enough to win last Saturday night, Ruslan Provodnikov’s chances of getting a rematch against WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) are slim and none after losing a close 12 round unanimous decision to Bradley.

It’s almost academic at this point that Bradley is going to take his narrow victory over Provodnikov and move on with his career, and he likely won’t look back in his rearview mirror.

This is one of those Rocky stories where Bradley picked out a guy with virtually no shot of winning the fight on paper, and he was supposed to breeze through him as a tune-up to get ready for the big money fights against his promoter Bob Arum’s top fighters – Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez and Brandon Rios.

Roach: Provodnikov should have won the fight against Bradley

YouTube video
By Eric Thomas: Trainer Freddie Roach thinks the referee Pat Russell blew a 1st round call last night when he failed to call WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) down when he was dropped by Roach’s fighter Ruslan Provodnikov (22-2, 15 KO’s).

Bradley tried to get back up and staggered backwards and fell again, giving a clear indication that Bradley had been knocked down by Provodnikov. Roach feels that Provodnikov should have been given credit for three 10-8 rounds in the fight, not just one in the 12th.

Provodnikov exposes a lot of weaknesses in Bradley

bradley20By Dan Ambrose: Ruslan Provodnikov (22-2, 15 KO’s) may have come up short last night in losing to WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision, but Provodnikov revealed some major weaknesses in Bradley’s game that other fighters will be able to exploit in the near future.

Provodnikov showed that Bradley slaps with no power when he’s attempting to box. He doesn’t have any power at 147, and he just throws slapping shots. Bradley doesn’t have the power to knock anyone out at welterweight.

Provodnikov: Bradley had nowhere to run

provo3By Allan Fox: Ruslan Provodnikov (22-2, 15 KO’s) gave a really good effort last Saturday night in his 12 round unanimous decision loss to WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, California.

Provodnikov walked through everything that Bradley threw, and was able to hurt him and knock him down in the 12th round. It was a fight that was determined ultimately on the referee Pat Russell failing to score a 1st round knockdown of Bradley where he hit the deck after being hurt by Provodnikov.

Roy Jones Jr’s commenting of the Bradley-Provodnikov fight leaves a lot to be desired

bradley18By Chris Williams: If you had the chance to listen to HBO analyst Roy Jones Jr’s commentary of the 2nd round of action in last night’s fight between WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley and Ruslan Provodnikov, you have to wonder which fight Jones Jr. was watching because he seemed to be way off the board with his analysis of what was happening in the round.

In the 2nd round, Provodnikov had Bradley staggering all around the ring, and basically on the verge of being stopped. It was completely one-sided during the entire round, and while Bradley was landing, he had no power on his shots and his legs were unsteady under him. However, Jones Jr. was insisting that it Provodnikov was hurt as well despite the fact that he showed no signs of being hurt at any given time. I never saw Provodnikov stagger or slow down his forward momentum in going after a badly hurt Bradley.
