Bradley: Marquez is a tougher fight for me than Pacquiao

bradley11By Chris Williams: WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) thinks his October 5th fight against Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) will be a tougher fight for him now than a rematch against Manny Pacquiao. Bradley sees it this way because of the confidence that Marquez has going into the fight after his 6th round KO win over Pacquiao from last December.

Bradley said to the Boxing Channel “I wanted the guy that beat Manny, so I chose Marquez. He’s a tougher fight [than Pacquiao] because he’s full of confidence…he’s 40-years-old, but he most have seen something he can expose in the [Ruslan] Provodnikov, because before that his trainer didn’t want no piece of me…this will be an opportunity for me to get the respect from boxing by beating a legend like Juan Manuel Marquez and I mean business.”

Bradley: I’m not going to Asia to fight Pacquiao

bradley2323By Chris Williams: Tim Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) says that one of the many reasons why he chose not to fight a rematch against Manny Pacquiao recently after having beaten him last year by a 12 round split decision was that he knew that if he said yes to the rematch, he would then be facing him in Asia [Macao, China], and he didn’t want to do that.

Instead of fighting Pacquiao in Asia, Bradley opted to face Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) on October 15th at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

More controversy surrounds Marquez and his physique

marquez5By Mark Havey: Timothy Bradley and Jaun Manuel Marquez are set to fight in a clash that has most fans excited. Without the fact that they will be sharing a ring with each other, they share another thing in common. They both beat Manny Pacquiao in a fashion that left fans talking about the legitimacy of the sports.

Manny Pacquiao vs Timothy Bradley didn’t the hardcore or casual fan shaking with eagerness. Bradley was the unbeaten ruler of the light welterweight division, however had hadn’t captured the imagination of the public. A few fans, I think it was 6%, thought that Bradley fairly won. I don’t care what anyone says it was clear to everyone that Manny Pacquiao won that fight.

Marquez: My fight with Bradley will be a war

YouTube video
By Chris Williams: Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) sees his October 12th fight with WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) as being a war despite the fact that Marquez is a counter puncher and Bradley is mostly a boxer.

We saw what happened to Bradley when he strayed away from his boxing style last March when he was hurt and knocked down in his close 12 round decision win over Ruslan Provodnikov. Bradley will likely have learned from that close win and will be looking to fight defensively to get hit as little as possible.

Bradley: I’m younger and faster than Marquez; I’ll beat him

bradley234234By Allan Fox: WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) sees himself as the younger and faster guy and believes those qualities will lead him to victory over Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) on October 12th in their HBO pay per view bout at the Thomas & Mack Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Bradley turns 30 in August, while Marquez turns 40. However, Bradley didn’t look all that fast in his last fight against Ruslan Provodnikov last March in winning a close 12 round unanimous decision.

Bradley also didn’t look very powerful, as Provodkin was able to walk through his shots all night to punish him with big power shots.

Bradley-Marquez: Appreciation

bradley17We’ve all heard the simple maxim, “Don’t hate, appreciate!” There seems to be little place for thinking like this in boxing, a sport of all too puffed up egos and rivalries so fierce that we often end up hating our opposition. Albeit there are some fighters that I cannot stand, I learned something by watching Timothy Bradley’s recent interview with Bernardo Osuna of ESPN.

I can appreciate a pugilist that I do not like. In fact, I may even root for Bradley in some cases now.

You see, the reason for so much recent talk about the sport of boxing needing help to get positive publicity is a glaring one, but it’s also all too overlooked. Prima-donna’s pervade the sport, while values are stagnant within boxing.

Marquez: I’ve closed the chapter on Pacquiao; I beat him

marquez124By Chris Williams: Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) says he’s done with fighting Manny Pacquiao and he won’t going down that road again after knocking him out in the 6th round last December. Marquez feels satisfied with his knockout victory, and he feels like he has nothing more to prove after his impressive exclamation point on his four-fight series with Pacquiao.

Marquez said to ESPN “The chapter with Pacquiao is closed. I won. I feel great with the victory…everybody knows what happened in 2011. The belt should be mine.”

It’s hard to disagree with Marquez. He definitely closed the door on Pacquiao with that great win last December. How do you fight a guy again when you’ve knocked him out like that? That’s final when you KO someone like that.

Bradley vs. Marquez: Tim has his work cut out for him

bradley777By Chris Williams: WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) is going to have a really tough time trying to hold onto his World Boxing Organization 147 lb. title against counter puncher Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) in their fight on October 12th at the Thomas & Mack Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Bradley barely won his last fight against Ruslan Provodnikov last March in an unimpressive 12 round unanimous decision. In Bradley’s fight before that, he defeated Manny Pacquiao by a 12 round split decision in June of last year in a fight that boxing fans felt that Pacquiao had done more than enough to get the ‘W.’

Bradley vs. Marquez moved to October 12th to avoid Mayweather-Canelo conflict

bradley17By Chris Williams: Bob Arum of Top Rank has wisely chosen to move his Top Rank card head-lined by WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) vs. Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) from September 14th to October 12th at the Thomas & Mack Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Arum was hoping that there would be an outside chance that Floyd Mayweather Jr. wouldn’t fight on the prestigious September 14th fight date so that he can put Bradley-Marquez. However, once it was clear that Mayweather would be fighting Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on that date, Arum quickly rescheduled the Bradley vs. Marquez fight to October 12th.

It’s really the only choice Arum had because if he got stubborn about it he’d have some scary low ratings for the Bradley-Marquez fight due to most boxing fans choosing to watch the much more interesting fight between Mayweather and Canelo.

Bradley vs. Marquez close to being finalized

marquez5By Allan Fox: WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) has reportedly signed the contract for a fight with Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) that is tentatively scheduled for September 14th at the Thomas & Mack Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Marquez still hasn’t signed the contract but he’s expected.

The Bradley-Marquez fight may get moved to October 12th if Floyd Mayweather decides he wants to fight on September 14th in a PPV fight bout against possibly Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bob Arum of Top Rank, the promoter for Bradley, doesn’t want to go up against the Mayweather fight because it would mean lousy ratings for the Bradley-Marquez fight.
