Campbell – Look For Nate To Fail at 140

campbell4352324By Manuel Perez: In watching Nate Campbell (33-5-1, 25 KOs) struggle badly on Saturday night against a rail thin Ali Funeka, I have to say I don’t give Campbell, 37, much if any chance at doing well at this weight. Campbell looked horrible against Funeka, getting hit a lot, having his face puffed up and barely making it out of the single digits in punch output. Against the bigger, stronger and equally fast light welterweights, like Ricardo Torres, Timothy Bradley, Kendall Holt, Junior Witter, Andreas Kotelnik, to name just a few, Campbell will be a huge disadvantage.

Did Calzaghe Retire To Avoid Having To Fight Dawson?

cal5668By Scott Gilfoid: When former WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe retired a week ago, he chose a time in his career when he just happened to be facing one of the biggest threats of his career in IBF light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson who was very interested in fighting him. Not only was Dawson interested in mixing it up with Calzaghe, many boxing fans from around the world wanted to see Dawson and Calzaghe fight.

Calzaghe vs. Dawson – Dream Fight

cal4535By Scott Gilfoid: Since Joe Calzaghe (46-0, 32 KOs) chose to quit rather than fight the talented unbeaten light heavyweight Chad Dawson (27-0, 17 KOs), I felt it was up to me to use my in depth knowledge of both fighters to give a breakdown of what would likely have happened if the two had met in the ring. Dawson, 26, had been counting on Calzaghe to fight him before retiring from boxing, but instead Calzaghe chose to retire with a big money fight over the badly washed up Roy Jones Jr. on November 8th, 2008, and not surprisingly, Joe defeated the faded Roy by a 12-round decision.

De La Hoya – Retire Or Keep Fighting?

dela5344461By Matt Stein: He’s 36-years-old, enormously wealthy, the head of the successful promotional company Golden Boy Promotions, married to a beautiful woman, and coming off of a humiliating 8th round quit job against Manny Pacquiao on December 6th, so why on Earth would Oscar De La Hoya (39-6, 30 KOs) want to continue fighting?

Up and Coming Heavyweight Travis Kauffman

kaufman3By Sam Gregory: I had the chance to speak to undefeated heavyweight prospect Travis Kauffman today, just home from his fight in Anaheim last Saturday night where Travis fought on the undercard of the Darchinyan-Arce fight scoring a first round TKO win and improving his record to 16 wins with no loses; 13 of the wins coming by way of KO.

Will Margarito’s License Revocation Hurt Him – Probably Not!

margo55By Manuel Perez: Antonio Margarito and his trainer may have had their boxing licenses revoked by the California State Athletic Commission for alleged illegal wraps, but that won’t keep Margarito from going ahead and fighting anyway, either in Las Vegas, Nevada or Mexico. Either way, Margarito won’t be stopped by this and will continue on with his excellent boxing career.

Margarito’s Boxing License Revoked

margo35322By Chris Williams: Earlier today, Antonio Margarito and his trainer Javier Capetillon had their boxing licenses revoked by the California State Athletic Commission at a hearing in Van Nuys, California, over an issue involving Margarito’s hand wraps before his fight with Shane Mosley on January 24th. Originally, Mosley’s trainer Nazim Richardson felt something was suspicious about Margarito’s hand wraps when he went into the dressing room of Margarito prior to the fight to check out his hand wraps.

What Does Calzaghe’s “0” Mean?

cal452325By Scott Gilfoid: For some people when they see Joe Calzaghe’s unbeaten 46-0 record they think of a fighter they consider to be an all time great, someone along the lines of a Rocky Marciano, Sugar Ray Robinson or Muhammad Ali. After all, there are few fighters that could amass an accumulated record of wins like Calzaghe accomplished in his career. But in getting all these wins, it leaves with a couple of thoughts: Either Calzaghe was an exceptional fighter who beat everyone that was put in front of him or he was lucky to have fought largely marginal fighters with the exception of a few good opponents during his entire 16-year career.

Loaded Gloves?

margo4224By Sam Gregory: Saturday night, January 24th, the boxing world was treated to a superb display of pugilistic excellence when Sugar Shane Mosley upset welterweight contender Antonio Margarito with a 9th round stoppage at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
