Arum not sure if Pavlik wants to continue his boxing career

pavlik3By Chris Williams: Promoter Bob Arum isn’t sure whether former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (40-2, 34 KO’s) will continue his once successful boxing career. Arum isn’t saying why he’s questioning Pavlik but it seems that he has doubts in him now for some reason.

Arum said to boxingtalk.com “I don’t know if Kelly is going to continue to pursue his career. I really can’t say. I’m not sure what Kelly’s plans are.”

The first thing you’ve got to wonder is if Pavlik is off the wagon and is drinking alcohol again. If that were to be the case then it’s understandable why Arum might not be happy with him. However, Arum says that’s not what it is, but he’s saying why he doubts Pavlik wants to continue fighting.

Arum: Pacquiao won’t be fighting until September

arum45By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says his fighter Manny Pacquiao likely won’t be back in the ring until September when he faces Juan Manuel Marquez again. Arum had been hoping to get an April fight for Pacquiao outside of the United States, but he was unable to find a country to have the fight take place.

He tried Singapore, Manila and Macau, but was unable to find a venue for the fight for a variety of reasons.

Arum said to Greg Leon at boxingtalk.com “Todd [duboeuf] was over in Macau and we can’t get a date with the arena…Singapore is not an option and I don’t think we go to for Manila for the fight, so I think they’re going to have to wait till September.”

Arum: Fans want to see Rios-Alvarado 2, not Rios vs. Matthysse

rios54By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum believes that there is a high demand from boxing fans to see two of Arum’s Top Rank stable fighters former WBA World lightweight champion (31-0-1, 23 KO’s) go back and fight Mike Alvarado (33-1, 23 KO’s) again rather than seeing Rios move forward with his career and fight WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s).

Arum said to the Boxingsocialist.com “It would be really stupid if I did that fight [Matthysse vs. Rios]. The fight everyone wants to see is Rios and Alvarado. Why would I want to put Rios in with a guy that lost to Zab Judah? He’s [Matthysse] not a draw. The fight is not a draw. Matthysse doesn’t sell 10 tickets.”

Dana White: Arum shouldn’t have matched Pacquiao against Marquez

pac92By Chris Williams: UFC president Dana White thinks that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum made a huge blunder by putting his #1 cash cow fighter Manny Pacquiao in with Juan Manuel Marquez for a fourth fight recently. White thinks that was a really bad, bad move by Arum because it was a risky fight.

White thinks the smart move should have been for Arum to put Pacquiao back in with Tim Bradley, so that Pacquiao could recapture his WBO welterweight title that he previously lost in a controversial decision last June.

I’m sorry but I don’t agree that Donaire has done enough to deserve that distinction for beating those guys.

Image: Arum says Pacquiao was distracted in his last three training campsBy Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum explains why his money fighter Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) has looked so poor in his last three fights by pointing out that Pacquiao had other things on his mind while getting ready for Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez and Tim Bradley.
