Was Parker’s win over Ruiz better for Heavyweight division?

Image: Was Parker's win over Ruiz better for Heavyweight division?

By Gerardo Granados: Last Saturday I got up at 3 AM to watch the Andy Ruiz vs. Joseph Parker bout, and through the day I saw many fights. Some of those fights were really good, some were ugly mismatches, a couple of great knockouts and one epic battle. To me the boxing year could not have closed any better and we still will get to see Bernard Hopkins fight for the last time against Joe Smith Jr next Saturday.

I was disappointed with Joseph Parker performance; it was like he knew he had the lead before the first bell rang. As Andy Ruiz stated at an interview prior to the fight that he felt he was 2 points behind in the score cards already.

Joseph Parker vs. Andy Ruiz Jr – Official weights

Image: Joseph Parker vs. Andy Ruiz Jr - Official weights

By Jim Dower: Unbeaten Andy Ruiz Jr. (29-0, 19 KOs) weighed in at 255.7 pounds on Thursday for his fight against #1 WBO Joseph Parker (21-0, 18 KOs) in a battle of puncher vs. boxer this Saturday night at the Vector Arena in Auckland, New Zealand. Parker weighed in at 246.7lbs. The two heavyweights will be fighting for the vacant WBO heavyweight title that was recently vacated by Tyson Fury.

Ruiz Jr’s nine pound weight advantage might not be enough for him to get a win on Saturday night, because he’s going to have a hard time cornering Parker, who likes to use movement to keep out of punching range.

Arum sees Parker vs. Ruiz Jr. winner as best heavyweight in division

arum8

By Eric Baldwin: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is now the co-promoter for unbeaten #1 WBO heavyweight contender Joseph Parker (21-0, 18 KOs), which means that if he wins his fight against unbeaten #3 WBO Andy Ruiz Jr. (29-0, 19 KOs) this Saturday night in their fight for the vacant WBO heavyweight title, Arum will have his first heavyweight champion in his stable since Hasim Rahman.

It’s pretty clever of the 84-year-old Arum to sign a co-promotional deal with the 24-year-old Parker, because it means that no matter what happens this Saturday on December 10, Arum will have a new heavyweight champion for his Top Rank stable. Arum also promotes the 27-year-old Ruiz Jr., so it’s a great deal for him. The Parker vs. Ruiz Jr. fight will be televised by HBO Championship Boxing on Saturday, and it’ll be taking place at the Vector Arena in Auckland, New Zealand. The start time for U.S fans watching the Parker-Ruiz Jr. fight on HBO in the States is at 9:35 p.m. ET/PT. It’s a delay fight.

Parker vs. Ruiz Jr: Joseph ready to win on Dec.10

parker1

By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated heavyweight contender Joseph Parker (21-0, 18 KOs) believes that his speed and talent will lead him to victory on December 10 against unbeaten contender Andy Ruiz Jr. (29-0, 19 KOs) in their scrap for the vacant WBO heavyweight title at the Vector Arena, in Auckland, New Zealand.

Parker’s own trainer Kevin Barry surprised a lot of boxing fans recently when he said he didn’t see the 24-year-old Parker as the favorite in the fight. Barry favors the 27-year-old Ruiz Jr., who is ranked below Parker at No.3 in the World Boxing Organization’s top 15 rankings. The WBO has Parker at No.1 and Wladimir Klitschko at No.2.
