Donaire misses out on the Showtime’s bantamweight tourney to fight Sidorenko

By Jim Dower: Super flyweight Nonito Donaire (24-1, 16 KO’s) is missing out on Showtime’s bantamweight tournament due to the money not being right and because Donaire’s promoter didn’t like the format, according to boxing news from the Los Angeles Times. Instead of fighting in the bantamweight tourney and getting a lot of visibility and positive press if he were to win the tourney, Donaire instead will be facing a struggling Wladimir Sidorenko (22-2-2, 7 KO’s) on December 4th at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California. If Donaire is successful in beating Sidorenko, Donaire’s promoter Bob Arum wants to put him in with Fernando Montiel next year on February 19th.

Wladimir Fights Chagaev on Saturday – Does Anyone Care?

wladimir45342Photo courtesy of Klitschko.com – By Matt Stein: Another fight for Wladimir Klitschko against another opponent that hardly a soul cares about. In this case, Wladimir’s latest victim is Ruslan Chagaev, a heavyweight that has rarely found his way into a ring in the past two years due to one malady or another. It’s hard to believe that Klitschko, 33, has been a heavyweight champion of the IBF for the past three years because his fights and especially his opponents have been very forgettable.

Moreno Defeats Sidorenko by Split Decision

By Erik Schmidt: World Boxing Association bantamweight champion Panamanian Anselmo Moreno (25-1-1, 8 KOs) defeated Ukrainian challenger Wladimir Sidorenko (21-2-2, 7 KOs) by a 12-round split decision on Saturday night at the Halle 7, in Bremen, Germany. The final judges’ scores were 115-113 for Moreno, 113-115 for Sidorenko and 115-113 for Moreno. However, like a lot of fights in Germany, the scores were way off from what actually took place in the ring on Saturday night. I had Moreno winning all 12 rounds with ease and having little problem with the shorter, 5’4” Sidorenko.

Moreno Defeats Sidorenko

siderenko682323.jpgBy Scott Gilfoid: WBA bantamweight champion Wladimir Sidorenko (21-2-2, 7 KOs) finally ran out luck on Saturday night when he lost his title to the young 22 year-old Panamanian Andelmo Moreno (22-1-1, 8 KOs) by a 12-round unanimous decision at the Burg-Waechter Castello, Dusseldorf, in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Moreno used a combination of constant movement, clinching often and jabbing to stymie Sidorenko’s offense, keeping him from landing more than one punch at a time for most of the fight. Sidorenko had huge problems landing anything at all up until the 6th round, when he seemed to realize that the only way to make contact with Moreno was to bull rush him and stay constantly on top of him.

By then, however, Sidorenko was already trailing by five rounds and in an almost desperate situation. The problem for Sidorenko, though, was that he’s ever been a particularly good pressure fighter, and did a rather poor job of keeping on top of Moreno even when it was clear to all that was his only chance of winning the fight.
