Wladimir Klitschko now looking to defend title against Povetkin

By Jim Dower: The IBF’s deadline passed for IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko to put together a unification bout with World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye a few days ago. Wladimir and his management team will now start looking to put together a fight against the IBF mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin. Wladimir was hoping to put together a fight with the 29-year-old Haye. However, Haye wanted more time to spend with his family and rest. Klitschko’s management will continue to try and put together a fight between Haye in the future after Klitschko gets finished with his title defense against Povetkin, provided he beats the former Russian Olympic Gold Medalist.

Was Haye ever serious about wanting to fight Wladimir Klitschko?

By Sean McDaniel: With the May 17th deadline passed that the IBF set for IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and WBA heavyweight champion David Haye to agree to a fight it’s now looking like there won’t be a fight between them. Haye, 29, has reportedly said for Wladimir to go ahead and fight his mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin rather than to try and put together a fight with him. My thoughts about this is whether Haye was ever serious about wanting to fight Wladimir in the first place or was he merely namedropping to get attention in the media.

Vitali Klitschko not sure whether Haye is willing to fight him or Wladimir

By Chris Williams: WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (39-2, 37 KO’s) isn’t sure whether WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KO’s) is willing to fight him or his brother IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. Vitali says “Fights against David Haye and Nikolay Valuev are interesting fights, but I am not sure if they dare to step in the ring with me or my brother [Wladimir].” Haye has an opportunity to fight Wladimir Klitschko right now, but is dragging his heels about fighting him. Haye says he wants a rest after beating John Ruiz by a 9th round stoppage on April 3rd and wants to spend more time with his family rather than fight Wladimir.

Vitali Klitschko gives David Haye a warning: Wladimir will knock him out and end his career

By Chris Williams: WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (39-2, 37 KO’s) thinks his younger brother IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KO’s) will knock out and retire WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KO’s) if the British fighter steps in the ring with Wladimir at some point in 2010. Right now, few people know whether Haye will step up to the challenge of taking on Wladimir, despite constantly taunting him and calling him out in the media for the past two years. Haye has backed out of fights against both Klitschko brothers, for one reason or another, in the past year, and this is why it’s hard to tell if he’ll agree to fight Wladimir this time.

Schaefer thinks Haye is too fast for the Klitschko brothers

By Chris Williams: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer thinks that World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KO’s) will be too fast for the Klitschko brothers when and if Haye fights the two. However, Schaefer is Haye’s American promoter, so you have to keep that in mind. Schaefer should worry less about whether or not Haye can beat the Klitschko brothers and more on trying to actually get him in the ring against either of them.

Haye-Klitschko negotiations not looking good; Haye could fight Harrison

Image: Haye-Klitschko negotiations not looking good; Haye could fight HarrisonBy Chris Williams: According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KO’s) and IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KO’s) have until this Monday to let the IBF know whether they can make the fight happen or not otherwise they will move forward to have number #1 mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin fight Klitschko instead. Adam Booth, the trainer/manager of Haye, says he’s going to speak to Haye about the terms and see if he wants to make the fight happen. If not, Haye could turn around and fight a much easier opponent in fellow Brit Audley Harrison, who is currently the European Boxing Union (EBU) heavyweight champion.

Fights that could make 2010 the best boxing year ever

By Eamon McDonald: There are so many brilliant match-ups to be made before the end of year that leads me to believe this could be one of the best year’s boxing has ever had. The obvious one to be made is Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao, and I fully believe it will be made before the years over, but there are plenty of other match-ups that will spark interest from boxing fans and may even create new boxing fans.

Will Haye be another Klitschko victim?

By Chris Williams: Currently, World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye’s management team is negotiating a fight with IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. Rumors are that the negotiations are going well and there could be a fight between the two champions by the end of 2010. You can’t be too sure, however, because Haye was on course to fight Wladimir and his brother Vitali Klitschko only to come up lame in the case of Wladimir. With Vitali, Haye, without a word, walked away from the negotiations and instead chose to fight the light hitting, slow moving Nikolay Valuev. It obviously was a good decision by Haye, as he won a razor thin 12 round decision over Valuev to capture the WBA title.

Adamek ready for Haye or the Klitschko brothers

Image: Adamek ready for Haye or the Klitschko brothersBy William Mackay: Fresh off his 12 round majority decision over heavyweight contender Chris Arreola last month on April 24th, Tomasz Adamek (41-1, 27 KO’s) is ready to take on one of the heavyweight champions in the division. Adamek, 33, doesn’t care which heavyweight champion he fights. He just wants to fight one of them. At 6’1” with a somewhat shaky chin, Adamek might be better off if he was to go after World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye, who at around 6’2”, is more the same size as Adamek.
