lomachenko3

By Eric Baldwin: The sports of boxing have been hurting since Floyd Mayweather Jr. retired last September, leaving a huge vacancy that has yet to be filled. However, after months of searching for the perfect replacement for Mayweather, the sport have found one last Saturday night with the arrival of two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko (6-1, 4 KOs).

It’s not surprising that it took an athlete with the Olympic pedigree that Lomachenko possess for boxing to find the replacement. Lomachenko showed off his Mayweather-esque talent last night in beating WBO super featherweight champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez (29-3-3, 17 KOs) by a 5th round knockout at Madison Square Garden in New York.

lomachenko8

By Chris Williams: Newly crowned WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (6-1, 4 KOs) says he wants a rematch against Orlando Salido, the only fighter to beat him in the pro ranks. It’s now up to Lomachenko’s promoters at Top Rank and to a certain extent HBO to see if he can lure the 35-year-old Salido into a second fight with him.

Lomachenko defeated WBO 130lb champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez (29-3-3, 17 KOs) by a 5th round knockout last Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York. The victory for Lomachenko, 28, gave him his second division world title. He’ now expected to hold onto the WBO super featherweight belt and give up his WBO featherweight title. He can’t keep both.

By Dan Ambrose: WBO super featherweight champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez (29-2-3, 17 KOs) is seen by many boxing fans as the underdog going into his title defense this Saturday night against two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko (5-1, 3 KOs) for their fight on HBO at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Martinez and Lomachenko share a common opponent in Orlando Salido, who Martinez has a 1-0-1 record against and Lomachenko a loss to him. However, Martinez clearly lost to Salido last September in their fight that was scored a 12 round draw.

Arum: If Lomachenko beats Martinez, he wants Salido

Image: Arum: If Lomachenko beats Martinez, he wants Salido

By Dan Ambrose: If Vasyl Lomachenko (5-1, 3 KOs) can defeat WBO super featherweight champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez (29-2-3, 17 KOs) this Saturday night on HBO in their fight at Madison Square Garden’s Theater in New York, Lomachenko’s promoter Bob Arum wants to try and put a rematch together between Lomachenko and contender Orlando Salido.

Lomachenko, 28, lost to Salido two years ago by a close 12 round split decision. Lomachenko has won every fight he’s had since that time, and he’s interested in facing the 35-year-old Salido despite the fact that he came up empty last Saturday night in his title challenge against unbeaten WBC super featherweight champion Francisco “El Bandito” Vargas (23-0-2, 17 KOs) in their fight on HBO from the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Lomachenko: I am going to spoil the Puerto Rican fans weekend

Image: Lomachenko: I am going to spoil the Puerto Rican fans weekend

By Eric Baldwin: Vasyl Lomachenko (5-1, 3 KOs) will be moving up in weight in a little over a week to take on WBO super featherweight champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez (29-2-3, 17 KOs) for his title on HBO Championship Boxing on June 11 from Madison Square Garden in New York.

The 28-year-old Lomachenko will be looking to win his 2nd division world title. He’s got a great chance of accomplishing that fete, as Martinez is coming off of a bad beating at the hands of Orlando Salido last September, and he arguably should no longer be the WBO 130lb champion after receiving a 12 round draw in a fight that he clearly lost in the eyes of many boxing fans.

Vasyl Lomachenlo vs. Rocky Martinez in the works for June 11

Roman MartinezBy Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum was unable to setup a fight between his two Top Rank fighters WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (5-1, 3 KOs) and former WBA featherweight champion Nicholas Walters (26-0-1, 21 KOs) after Walters reportedly priced himself out of the fight by asking for more than the fight was willing to pay.

Instead of making the Lomachenko-Walters fight, Arum is now working on matching Lomachenko against WBO super featherweight champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez (29-2-3, 17 KOs) for a fight on June 11 on HBO Championship Boxing at Madison Square Garden in New York. Lomachenko will be moving up in weight to super featherweight to challenge Martinez for his fight.
