Martirosyan likely to be face Wolak on 12/4 or 12/18

Image: Martirosyan likely to be face Wolak on 12/4 or 12/18By Dan Ambrose: Undefeated junior middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan (28-0, 17 KO’s) will be returning to the ring on either December 4th or December 18th, likely against fringe contender Pawel Wolak (27-1, 17 KO’s). Martirosyan, ranked #3 WBO, #5 IBF, #5 WBA and #6 WBC, is close to getting a title shot against one of the champions. However, he needs to keep winning so that he can get a big money fight. Martirosyan was holding out with the hope of facing fellow Top Rank World Boxing Association (WBA) junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto on December 4th.

Cotto to fight Martirosyan next?

Image: Cotto to fight Martirosyan next?By Chris Williams: According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, there is talk of World Boxing Association (WBA) junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) fighting junior middleweight contender and fellow Top Rank fighter Vanes Martirosyan (28-0, 17 KO’s) next. I don’t quite understand this fight happening now. Martirosyan, 24, is ranked number #4 by the WBA, but really hasn’t fought anyone besides Kassim Ouma and Joe Greene. I thought that Ouma should have beaten Martirosyan in their fight in January of this year. But whether he won or lost, Martirosyan did not look at all good against a fighter that he should have been able to handle without too many problems. By putting Martirosyan in with Cotto, I see this as serving up Cotto an easy opponent for him to hold onto his WBA title for a little while longer.

Roach thinks Martirosyan can beat Cotto – News

Image: Roach thinks Martirosyan can beat Cotto – NewsBy Chris Williams: Freddie Roach made a shocking revelation recently when he said that he thinks that unproven junior middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan (28-0, 17 KO’s), who Roach trains, can beat World Boxing Association (WBA) junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s). I’m no fan of either of these two fighters, but I think Roach is off his rocker if he believes that the 24-year-old Martirosyan can beat Cotto. Having seen Martirosyan fight against Kassim Ouma and Joe Greene recently, I think he would be knockout bait for Cotto.

Is Martirosyan a future champion or just a pretender?

Image: Is Martirosyan a future champion or just a pretender?By Chris Williams: Undefeated Top Rank junior middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan (28-0, 17 KO’s) stayed unbeaten with an unimpressive 10 round unanimous decision win over Joe Greene on the undercard of the Yuri Foreman vs. Miguel Cotto bout on June 5th at the Yankee Stadium, in the Bronx, New York. The Martirosyan-Greene fight was the co-main event of what turned out to be a rather disappointing card, as the Martirosyan was incredibly boring and the main event between Cotto and Foreman, never a particularly interesting fight from the 1st round, was a huge letdown when Foreman injured his bad right knee in the 7th and eventually it led to him being stopped in the 9th.

Martirosyan vs. Greene on Saturday night

By Jim Dower: Unbeaten junior middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan (27-0, 17 KO’s) has a tough bout ahead of him on Saturday night against undefeated Joe Greene (22-0, 14 KO’s) on the undercard of the Miguel Cotto vs. Yuri Foreman bout at Yankee Stadium, in New York. This is one of those rare fights in which two young and promising fighters are matched against each other early in their careers.

Cotto-Foreman and Martirosyan-Greene this Saturday

Image: Cotto-Foreman and Martirosyan-Greene this SaturdayBy Jason Kim: This Saturday night at the Yankee Stadium in New York, WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KO’s) will defend his World Boxing Association title against former WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO’s). Foreman, 29, will have the size advantage over Cotto, and the better footwork. Cotto has looked less than impressive since his fight with Shane Mosley in 2007, and has problems in that fight, his fights against Antonio Margarito, Joshua Clottey and Manny Pacquiao.

Martirosyan vs. Green on Cotto-Foreman undercard: Does this card lack punch?

By Chris Williams: In looking at the undercard of the June 5th bout between WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman vs. challenger Miguel Cotto, I can’t see much there that’s appealing besides the main event. The one notable fight on the undercard is unbeaten light middleweight contenders Vanes Martirosyan (27-0, 17 KO’s) vs. Joe Greene (22-0, 14 KO’s) for the NABF light middleweight title. That’s a decent fight, but not all that interesting. I wasn’t at all impressed with Martirosyan’s controversial 10 round unanimous decision win over Kassim Ouma in January 2010. I thought Ouma had done more than enough to win the fight.

Pavlik-Espino: If Kelly loses he’s pretty much finished

pav4324By Eric Thomas: World Boxing Council/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik has a fight coming up against little known Miguel Angel Espino this Saturday night in Youngstown, Ohio. This is a fight that hardly any one wants to see, other than die hard Pavlik and Espino fans. Pavlik is only two fights removed from his one-sided loss to 43-year-old Bernard Hopkins. That loss was a huge blow for Pavlik’s career, because many people expected that Pavlik would have little problem with Hopkins and would knock him out.

arce4522By Jason Kim: Super flyweight Jorge Arce (52-5-1, 40 KO’s) scored a 3rd round knockout over Filipino Fernando Lumacad (19-2-2, 7 KO’s) on Saturday night on the undercard of the WBO super bantamweight title bout between champion Juan Manuel Lopez and challenger Oliver Lontchi at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, in New Jersey. Arce, 29, landed a big right hand at the start of the 3rd round that sent Lumacad down on the canvas.
