Adonis Stevenson wants Hopkins, not Tavoris Cloud

stevenson343By Allan Fox: WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (21-1, 18 KO’s) met with HBO recently to discuss his next fight, which the network will likely be televising depending on the opponent picked out. According to Dan Rafael, former IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (24-1, 19 KO’s) was mentioned as a possible opponent for Stevenson’s first defense.

However, the 35-year-old Stevenson still prefers to face IBF light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins rather than fighting Cloud. That doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.

Hopkins could end up defending his IBF title against Karo Murat, who the International Boxing Federation recently reinstated as Hopkins’ mandatory challenger after briefly removing Murat from that position when he was experiencing visa problems.

Adonis Stevenson – Tavoris Cloud a possibility for HBO

cloud4323By Sean McDaniel: WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson wants fights against Bernard Hopkins or Andre Ward, but the chances of Stevenson getting those fights seem to be slim at the moment as Hopkins has been ordered to defend his IBF light heavyweight title against Sergiy Kovalev next, and Andre Ward isn’t showing any signs that he wants to face Stevenson.

The one fight that the 35-year-old Stevenson could wind up taking is against former IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (24-1, 19 KO’s). According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, HBO would like to televise this fight next. Cloud lost his title to Hopkins in a 12 round unanimous decision loss last March.

Hopkins: I will never fight Andre Ward

hopkins5By Scott Gilfoid: Newly crowned IBF light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (53-6-2, 32 KO’s) wanted to make it clear after his 12 round unanimous decision victory over IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (24-1, 19 KO’s) last Saturday night that he has no intentions of fighting WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward in the future.

Hopkins seemed to want to head people off at the pass by bringing that up at the post fight press conference just in case someone started asking him to agree to a fight with Ward after WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson tried and failed to beat Ward last year in September.

Hopkins said at the post-fight press conference, “Andre Ward is a protégé of myself.

Executioner makes history, Hopkins Champion at 48

bernardhopkins48_againstcloudBy Cutman’s Stool: Bernard Hopkins (53-6-2, 32 KO’s) did again what many people claimed could not be done.  Hopkins defeated Tavoris Cloud (24-1, 19 KO’s) in a dominating display off textbook boxing talent.  At 48 Hopkins has broken his own record to become the oldest ever champion in boxing history.  At the Barclay’s Center, New York, Hopkins won the IBF light-heavyweight title.

Bernard Hopkins just didn’t win the fight, he convincingly defeated the 31 year old Cloud without taking any great punishment throughout the entire 12 rounds.  Hopkins used great movement and perfect foot-work to avoid getting into a brawl with Cloud from the very first round.  As usual Hopkins controlled the pace off the fight and like many other opponent’s in the past, Hopkins was able to make Cloud look bad.

Hopkins wants to face Cleverly; willing to fight him in UK

hopkins433By Scott Gilfoid: 48-year-old Bernard Hopkins (53-6-2, 32 KO’s) became the oldest fighter to ever capture a world title last night in beating IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (24-1, 19 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 116-112, 117-111 and 116-112 in Brooklyn, New York.

According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, Hopkins would like to face WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (25-0, 12 KO’s) in a unification bout next, and get this, Hopkins is willing to fight Cleverly in the UK in front of Cleverly’s British fans.

I think Hopkins is going to have to make other plans unless he’s willing to sit for a long time while he waits for Cleverly to face Robin Krasniqi (39-2, 15 KO’s) on April 20th, and then Jurgen Braehmer.

Bernard Hopkins is a man that defies nature

hop10By Mark Havey: It’s common for us to see boxer start to decline between the ages of 30 and 35. Some don’t last quite so long, others last a little longer. If a boxer is lucky enough to hit 35 years old we speak of him being on borrowed time. before long the legs start to go, followed swiftly by a decline in reflexes. I hear it all the time, “boxing is a young man’s game”, and I agree.

It’s the law of nature. As we have seen tonight, that law doesn’t apply to Bernard Hopkins. Hopkins had already set the record as the oldest man to win a world title. As if that wasn’t enough, tonight he beat Tavoris Cloud on points. it was no ordinary win. Hopkins beat his own record at 48 years of age. I don’t think anyone will ever beat that. To call Hopkins a tremendous example of an athlete is a understatement, he is a freak of nature.

Hopkins defeats Cloud at 48; Thurman defeats Zaveck

hop9By Eric Thomas: 48-year-old Bernard Hopkins (53-6-2, 32 KO’s) became the oldest fighter to ever capture a world title by defeating IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (24-1, 19 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision to win another world title at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA. The judges’ scored it 116-112, 117-111, 116-112.

Cloud suffered a cut over his left eye after getting hit with a left hook from Hopkins in the 6th. The referee made the mistake of ruling that the cut was caused by a head-butt. Thankfully this bad call didn’t effect the outcome of the fight.

Atlas: Cloud will beat Hopkins

hopkins2By Allan Fox: ESPN analyst Teddy Atlas is picking IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (24-0, 19 KO’s) to defeat 48-year-old Bernard Hopkins (52-6-2, 32 KO’s) tonight in their fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Atlas feels that Cloud has too much youth, too much strength and too high of a workrate for the aging Hopkins. If Hopkins does win, he’ll become the oldest fighter to capture a world title. He currently has the record at winning the WBC 175 lb. title at 46, but he can break that tonight if he can somehow find a way to defeat Cloud.

Atlas said on ESPN, “He’s [Hopkins] talking about Cloud having only one gear and can’t go backwards. He’s [Hopkins] not pushing anyone backwards. You believing what he’s selling? He’s conning him right now; he’s setting him up, making him think I’m going after him. He wants nothing to do with going after a guy that’s physical and strong. Now at 48-years of age, he wants distance and he hopes by saying that Cloud will be a little hesitant and he’ll get the distance he needs.

Bernard Hopkins: He’ll do it, he’ll do it his way

hop5By Cutman’s Stool: Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins (52-6-2, 32 KO’s) is here, at the age of 48 fighting against undefeated fighter Tavoris “Thunder” Cloud (24-0, 19 KO’s) for the IBF light heavyweight title.  The age alone is an amazing feat, a boxer less than 2 years away from being 50, fighting for a world title.

I remember in the build-up to Hopkins-Trinidad during September 2001, many “boxing experts” and writers had claimed Trinidad would be too fast for the 36 year-old Hopkins.  Others saying Hopkins can’t compete at this level with a younger athlete.

Bernard Hopkins’ Age and His Acromioclavicular Joint

By Ramonito O. Legaspi: In the days leading up to his second encounter with Jean Pascal, some boxing fans and analysts counted Bernard Hopkins out. They thought he could no longer keep up with a fast paced action against a younger opponent. After all, Hopkins was 46 years old. Pascal, the light heavyweight champion, was 28.
