Schaefer: If Mosley doesn’t produce against Malignaggi, I won’t promote another fight for him

mosley434554By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer will be setting 41-year-old former three division world champion Shane Mosley (46-8-1, 39 KO’s) with an arguably much undeserved title shot against WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) on April 27 despite the fact that Mosley isn’t ranked in the top 15 by any of the sanctioning bodies, hasn’t won a fight in four years and has lost three out of his last four fights.

Schaefer still feels okay with matching Mosley with Malignaggi and having Mosley leap from over all of the top 15 contenders in the World Boxing Association rankings so that he can get a title shot against Malignaggi. Schafer says that if Mosley doesn’t produce he won’t promote another one of his fights again.

Mosley: Canelo can be as good as Mayweather, Pacquiao, De La Hoya and Cotto

alvarez56By Dan Ambrose: Former three division world champion Shane Mosley believes that WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) can someday be as good as Floyd Mayweather Jr, Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Miguel Cotto. Mosley was beaten by Alvarez earlier this year by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision in May, so it’s understandable why he’d be such a big supporter of the 22-year-old Alvarez.

Mosley said to ESPN, “I’ve fought Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, and Canelo has the potential to be as good as anyone I’ve faced. He is definitely in the mix of talented fighters who are going to carry the sport for the next decade.”

Mosley: A lot of big fights will open up for me after I beat Malignaggi

mosley4434By Dan Ambrose: 41-year-old Shane Mosley (46-8-1, 39 KO’s) is looking forward to facing WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) for his world title in 2013. Malignaggi has already said that he wants to fight Mosley if the two of them can agree on the money for the fight.

Mosley isn’t in the best position to shape the negotiations due to him losing three out of his last four fights over a two year period. Mosley hasn’t won since 2009 when he beat Antonio Margarito.

It looks like the World Boxing Association will likely bless the Malignaggi-Mosley fight as being a title fight despite Mosley no longer being ranked. That’s a good thing for Mosley because if he can beat Malignaggi, he could get a good money against one of the top welterweights. I don’t Mosley will be getting any of the big names like Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. to agree to fight him no what title Mosley wins.

Mosley: I could beat Marquez

marquez34By Chris Williams: 41-year-old former three vision world champion Shane Mosley (46-1, 39 KO’s) unbelievably thinks he can beat Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) if the two of them were to fight despite the fact that Mosley hasn’t won a fight in over three years and was easily handled recently by Manny Pacquiao, a fighter that Marquez has arguably beaten four times now.

Mosley said in an interview by esnewsreporting.com when asked if he can beat Marquez “Yes, styles make fights. When you fight a guy like Pacquiao all those times, you learn. Marquez knew when to throw his right hand at the right time.”

Malignaggi-Mosley still possible for April on Showtime

malignaggi24By Dan Ambrose: A fight between WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) and 41-year-old Shane Mosley (46-8-1, 39 KO’s) is still in the works for April 27th in Brooklyn, New York, according to ESPB. Golden Boy Promotions is working on putting the match-up together, and it’s possible the fight will take place unless Malignaggi fails to agree to the offer. Thus far, Malignaggi isn’t pleased with what’s being offered for the fight.

Malignaggi told Espn.com “I turned them down because I haven’t gotten the offer I want. I guess they anticipate buying themselves more time to convince me.”

Malignaggi vs. Mosley looking solid for April

Image: Malignaggi vs. Mosley looking solid for AprilBy Dan Ambrose: WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) will likely be facing 41-year-old Shane Mosley (46-8-1, 39 KO’s). Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer likes this fight and that’s who he wants to match Malignaggi against for his next fight.

It may be the only real name he can put Malignaggi in with that will draw ratings on a cable network, and besides that Malignaggi isn’t likely going to be holding onto his title for very much longer anyway. Schaefer needs to get the best possible fight with the minimum of danger for Malignaggi.

The Mayweather Effect

Image: The Mayweather EffectBy Paul Walsh: I remember watching an interview with Floyd Mayweather some time ago and he said something which has stuck with me ever since, “Once I beat a fighter they are never the same, mentally and physically”.  At the time I didn’t know what but after watching Cotto and Hatton fights recently it suddenly reemerged to the surface.

Let’s look at the facts and check the current status of Mayweather’s last 6 opponents;
