Video: Chavez Jr: Sergio Martinez was better than Canelo
By Dan Ambrose: A weight drained looking Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. took a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision loss last Saturday night against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in their big fight on the Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo on HBO PPV. Chavez Jr. lost all 12 rounds, but was never hurt by the shorter Canelo at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Sergio Martinez: Canelo will NEVER fight Golovkin
By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez (51-3-2, 28 KOs) doubts that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs) will ever fight IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) in a mega-fight. Martinez thinks that Canelo’s promoters at Golden Boy will never let that fight take place because they want to look out for the best interests for him.
Obviously, Golden Boy wants to also look out for their own best interests, and clearly it’s better for them if Canelo doesn’t get knocked out by Golovkin. Canelo can make good money fighting guys that are sure thing wins like Amir Khan and Liam Smith.
Sergio ‘Maravilla’ Martinez: A boxers life
By Gav Duthie: ‘Maravilla’ translates in the English tongue to marvel or wonder. Sergio Martinez career and life achievements possibly live up to his alias more than any boxer before him. He was a man so determined to achieve his goals he defied the laws of age and the cries of a crumbling body for years to succeed.
Martinez also had to box against the establishment, (the promoters, sanctioning bodies and TV networks) to succeed in the dog eat dog world of boxing. Finally at age 40 his body has said enough is enough and he has had to retire. We look at the boxing life of Sergio ‘The wonder’ Martinez.
Sergio Martinez retires
Thanks to all, I am retired.

By Jim Dower: Former two division world champion Sergio Martinez (51-3-2, 28 KOs) has announced his retirement from boxing after sitting out of the ring for an entire year following a 10th round stoppage loss.
Sergio Martinez on the cusp of Retirement
By James Le Blanc IV: A few weeks ago I got a lot of reaction on Twitter when I tweeted “@Supplanter_IV Are #boxing fans appreciating Sergio Martinez more, clearly injured, lost to Miguel Cotto, gave Cotto all the credit didn’t say one word about injury.”
After his debatable decision loss to Paul Williams in late 2009 Sergio Martinez went on a tear through the middle weight division. He faced nothing but the best opponents including a vicious knockout victory in the rematch with Paul Williams, and the battering of Kelly Pavlik.
Sergio Martinez: My knee is shattered, I am 40, and my hair is falling out
(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-3-2, 28 KOs) says his surgically repaired right knee is in bad shape, and that he’ll be meeting with his doctor in the next three weeks to make a decision about his career.
Martinez, 40, says he’s already made up his mind about his career, but he wants to have a meeting with his doctor first before he makes an announcement.
Sergio Martinez wants to continue fighting but knee problems keeping him out of ring
By Dan Ambrose: 40-year-old Sergio Martinez (51-3-2, 28 KOs) hasn’t fought since being stopped in the 10th round last year in June of 2014 by Miguel Cotto. Martinez says he wants to return to the ring for a final farewell fight, but the injuries to his right knee is keeping him from getting back into action.
The injury is so bad that it’s difficult for Martinez to go about everyday life. He reportedly has a crushed meniscus in his knee. It’s unclear if this injury was there for the Cotto fight. Martinez looked like his right knee wasn’t stable in that fight, as each time he was hit the knee would wobble.
Sergio Martinez: Pacquiao is a long way from being ready for Mayweather
By Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Sergio Martinez doesn’t think Top Rank fighter Manny Pacquiao is ready for what he’s about to undertake on May 2nd when he gets inside the ring with Floyd Mayweather Jr at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Martinez, 40, sees Pacquiao someone that Mayweather can beat with ease in this fight. Martinez doesn’t rate Pacquiao as being a good enough fighter to compete with Mayweather right now.
“This was never too much of a fight to me because Mayweather is in a league of his own,” said Martinez via RingTV.com. “Floyd Mayweather can have Manny for breakfast, lunch or anything. Pacquiao is still a long way from being ready for Mayweather.”
Martinez has a brilliant mind, and you can’t disagree with him with his analysis of the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. Yes, Martinez’s body may be failing him at the age of 40, but his mind is still as sharp as a tack. He knows what he sees when he looks at Pacquiao and Mayweather. This is why he doesn’t give Pacquiao a chance of winning the fight.
