Kovalev Media Conference Call Quotes

Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev, WBO, WBA and IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion

On coming off big fights against Pascal and Hopkins but now facing a lesser known fighter:

“For me, any fight means a lot because it is the next step. Who I am and how I do my job means a lot. He is the #1 IBF contender. He deserves this fight. I very excited that I have three titles and I have the opportunity to defend it against Mohammedi. He deserves this fight. He is #1. He is very motivated. When a boxer is motivated or any man is motivated it makes him very dangerous.”

Kovalev: If Andre Ward is ready to fight me, then let’s do it!

kovalev3454By Dan Ambrose: IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (27-0, 24 KOs) says he’s ready to face WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (28-0, 15 KOs) whenever he is. Ward had been talking lately in moving up to 175 to face the big names in that weight class like Kovalev.

After Ward’s recent 9th round win over Paul Smith this month, he’s been quiet about whether he wants to move up in weight or hot. Ward’s trainer Virgil Hunter says that he’s going to think it over before he moves up or not because there are still big fights that he can take at 168 without having to move up in weight yet.

The Second Coming of the ‘Son of God’ Andre Ward

ward5By Al Classico: Last Saturday we saw Andre ‘Son of God’ Ward (28-0) make his long awaited comeback into the ring with a dominant and clinical display against an outclassed but tough veteran in Paul ‘Real Gone Kid’ Smith (35-6).

Whilst the result was never in doubt even before the bell rang, there were many questions on how Ward would perform and whether or not he still ‘had it’ after a very lengthy absence during the prime years of his career. Ward emphatically answered those questions by putting on a clinical display which resulted in a 9th round TKO due to accumulated damage to Smith’s face, forcing his corner to throw in the towel to avoid their fighter taking any further punishment.

Jean Pascal to battle Yunieski Gonzalez on Kovalev-Mohammedi card on July 25th

pascal34By Allan Fox: #5 WBC, #7 WBO, #8 IBF, #8 WBA light heavyweight contender Jean Pascal (29-3-1, 17 KOs) will be back inside the ring two months from now against #12 WBC fringe contender Yunieski Gonzalez (16-0, 12 KOs) on the undercard of the Sergey Kovalev va. Nadjib Mohammedi fight card at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

The 32-year-old Pascal is looking to stay active with his career after getting stopped in the 8th round in his last fight against IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev last March in a competitive fight.

Jones Jr. says Pascal wants rematch against Kovalev

kovalev533By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Roy Jones Jr. says that former WBC 175lb champion Jean Pascal (29-3-1, 17 KOs) wants a rematch against unbeaten IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (27-0-1, 24 KOs) to try avenge his 8th round knockout loss from last March in Canada.

Pascal, 32, was stopped on his feet after having been hurt in the 8th. Jones Jr. thinks that Pascal has learned his lesson of not getting hit with Kovalev’s jabs, and he feels he’ll do better the second time around.

Kovalev not looking past Mohammedi

kovalevBy Allan Fox: Unbeaten IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (27-0-1, 24 KOs) isn’t looking past his mandatory title defense against #1 IBF, #2 WBA, #3 WBO Nadjib Mohammedi (37-3, 23 KOs) on July 18th at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Kovalev’s promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events has been trying to get a fight against WBC 175 pound champion Adonis Stevenson, but she’s had no luck in doing so.

Kovalev still wants that fight to take place sooner rather than later, but it would have to take place on HBO rather than Showtime because Kovalev has a contract with HBO.

Sergey Kovalev vs. Nadjib Mohammedi on 7/18 in Las Vegas, NV

kovalev533By Allan Fox: IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (27-0-1, 24 KOs) will be defending his titles two months from now against his hard hitting IBF mandatory challenger mandatory Nadjib Mohammedi (37-3, 23 KOs) on July 18th on HBO Championship Boxing at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This a fight that Kovalev has been putting off because it’s not one that boxing fans are too particularly interested in seeing. In Kovalev’s last two fights, he’s beaten Jean Pascal and Bernard Hopkins.

Why is Kovalev condemned but Ali wasn’t?

By Gerardo Granados: Days ago I saw a tweet on the net, posted by several sources stating that it was a IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev tweet in which as the reader already must know shows a picture which was very offensive towards Adonis Stevenson, it was said that hours later the tweet was deleted. Two days passed and then Kovalev offered an apology arguing he is a foreigner and was not aware of the implications such picture had in our culture.

Sergey Kovalev pulls out of purse bid for Adonis Stevenson fight

kovalev3454By Dan Ambrose: In a surprising move, Main Events and their fighter IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev pulled out of their scheduled purse bid this Friday with WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson.

Main Events and Kovalev were previously interested in facing the 37-year-old Stevenson. The World Boxing Council even helped Kovalev out by making him the WBC mandatory to Stevenson.

Adonis Stevenson to fight next in June or July, no mention of Kovalev

stevenson63By Dan Ambrose: After his fairly one-sided 12 round unanimous decision win over 35-year-old former WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika (32-7, 21 KOs) last Saturday night, WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (26-1, 21 KOs) says he’ll be back in the ring in June or July against whoever his adviser Al Haymon chooses for him to fight.

The 37-year-old Stevenson made no mention of IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (27-0-1, 24 KOs), who the World Boxing Council recently ordered Stevenson to start negotiations with last March.
