Kovalev looked kind of heavy today like he hadn’t fully started to train yet. Kovalev looked like he was easily in the 200s.

Ward and Kovalev are rated Nos. 1 and 2 in THE RING’s 175-pound ratings, which meets the magazine’s criteria for a championship fight. The title has been vacant since former champion Adonis “Superman” Stevenson was stripped in November 2015 for lack of top-level opposition.
By Jeff Aranow: Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev will soon be facing each other in the squared circle in a badly needed rematch on June 17, and there are many boxing fans that are still hopping mad at the results of their first fight last November. I scored that fight 3 rounds for Ward and 9 rounds for Kovalev. If I was to change the scoring, I would give Kovalev another round rather than giving Ward more rounds. Kovalev won the fight in a convincing manner.

Quillin says there’s a chance that Ward could pull a similar number against Kovalev in the second fight as Floyd Mayweather Jr. did in beating Jose Luis Castillo by a 12 round unanimous decision in their rematch on December 7, 2002.

Kovalev thinks he was robbed by the 3 judges in his last fight against Ward last year. This time, Kovalev doesn’t plan on letting the judges decide his fate against Ward. He plans on knocking the 2004 U.S Olympic gold medalist Ward straight into retirement.

The Ward-Kovalev II rematch was announced last Tuesday after a lot of time spent in negotiating the fight. Ward, 32, has taken a lot of heat from boxing fans for winning a questionable 12 round unanimous decision over Kovalev on November 19 last year.

Ward is rumored to be getting a 60/40 split of the revenue for the rematch with Kovalev. The fight will be shown on HBO pay-per-view. The fight will be promoted to the hilt by Ward’s promoters at Roc Nation Sports and Kovalev’s promoters at Main Events. It’s possible that HBO will be creating a Ward/Kovalev 24/7 series to show to the boxing public to hype the fight.
