Canelo vs. Kirkland possible for San Antonio

kirkland22By Allan Fox: The reported target date for Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s next fight is November in San Antonio, Texas. There isn’t an opponent yet, but #5 IBF, #5 WBO, #11 WBC James Kirkland (32-1, 28 KOs) is high on the list for the possible opponent to face the 23-year-old Canelo.

A fight against WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto will need to wait until next year in May in order to take advantage of the huge Mexican holiday that month.

My Scorecard for Canelo vs. Lara

lara6734By John Kelvin: The Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Erislandy Lara fight this past Saturday has caused a lot of controversy among boxing fans. Some point to the fact that Lara landed more punches than Canelo as justification for believing that he won whereas others feel that Canelo won because he landed the harder punches, especially to the body.

When I watched the fight live i felt that it was extremely close and could have gone either way. Now with all the disputes concerning the scoring and styles i have decided to watch a replay and score the fight  on a round by by round basis to see how my scorecard compares to the official judges and to see if a winner can be more clearly determined.

Why Lara lost against Canelo

lara567By Hector Gonzalez: I’m reading some comments regarding last nights fight between Erislandy Lara (19-2-2, 12 KOs) and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) as some fans feel that it was a controversial decision in Canelo’s favor. Some of these fans are even claiming that Lara put on a ‘boxing clinic’ and ‘schooled Canelo’, Some of these same fans are even using the ‘term hit and not be hit’ inaccurately, justifying as to why Lara was inactive through out a few of the rounds. Lara performance was not about the sweet science.

First of all I will start of by saying that it was a close fight, but I had Canelo winning by a round or two. It was close but I would like to clear the air more than anything about what some of these fans are saying.

Lara compares his performance against Canelo to Mayweather’s

lara7890By Dan Ambrose: WBA junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-2-2, 12 KO’s) was getting some grief by a reporter last night following his spirited performance in losing a very controversial 12 round split decision to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lara compared the way he fought Canelo with the way that Floyd Mayweather Jr did, and feels he should have been given the nod by the judges.

An unnamed reporter though feels that Lara didn’t show enough to win the fight.

Lara vs. Canelo was more accurately a draw

canelo783By Bob Smith: The fight yesterday between Erislandy Lara and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was a good one, in fact, all that the pre-fight hype suggested it would be. It was an even fight, and this is no surprise, and each fighter clearly won four of the rounds in my opinion – Lara took rounds 1, 3, 10, and 11, while Alvarez took 4, 5, 8, and 9.

Both of the first two judges’ scorecards were reasonable, and actually, on first view, I had Canelo winning by two points, but then, looking more closely, I had either Lara by two points or a draw. The one scorecard that was completely unbelievable was the 117-111 card by Martinez, that was a complete joke.

Canelo-Lara scoring

lara6734By Juni A Rosa: 117-112. That was my scorecard for the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Erislandy Lara fight that the announcers thought (from one judge giving it 117-111) was absurd. How I score is by effectiveness and who seems to be advancing.

The first 2 rounds I saw Lara boxing well, using movements making Canelo miss many of his shots, being frustrated and even desperate. In the 3rd round, I saw Canelo starting to push it, applying more effective pressure and winning that round. From then on, Lara seemed to do more dancing then fighting.

Mayweather and Lara’s styles trouble Canelo

lara7By Idris Morrey: The recent fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) and Erislandy Lara (19-2-2, 12 KOs) has sparked debates not only on the controversy surrounding the judging but also on fighting styles last night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo stated clearly that he did not come to compete in a marathon and he expected his opponent to stand toe-to-toe for the bout. Alvarez seem to have learned little from the Floyd Mayweather Jr schooling as his dismal display showed he had problems finding Lara last night.

Erislandy Lara: I want a rematch with Canelo

By Dan Ambrose: Erislandy Lara (19-2-2, 12 KO’s) isn’t too happy today after losing to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KO’s) by a 12 round split decision last night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lara made Canelo look bad for much of the fight with his punch and move technique made popular by Floyd Mayweather Jr.

De La Hoya says that they have several names that they’re looking at for possible opponents for Canelo later in 2015.

Can Mayweather-Maidana II succeed without Canelo’s help to boost the PPV numbers?

floyd888By T.B: It’s no secret that Floyd Mayweather Jr is the pay-per-view king when it comes to boxing. Floyd has set the bar so high when it comes to PPV that anything under 1 million buys is considered a bomb in Floyd’s eyes.

As of today 2 of 3 fights which Floyd has fought under his contract with Showtime have not hit the mystical bench mark of 1 million buys.

I know this is where some of you will argue that both the Robert Guerrero fight and the first Marcos Maidana fight both did 1 million buys. Stop it and let it go. They didn’t. Showtime has yet to release an “official number for the Mayweather-Guerrero fight much less the first Mayweather-Maidana fight and that only means one thing: they were both under a million buys.

If you remember the Canelo fight PPV numbers came out the following Tuesday. So as the saying goes.” The longer it takes the worse it is”. Sure Stephen Espinoza has said he’s confident that the Mayweather-Maidana fight reached 1 million buys, great, but what about an official number. So for the sake of argument let’s use the truth and move on.
