Cotto ranks Canelo as Top 5 in his toughest opponents

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_gduRtMGY4&feature=youtu.be

By Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) thinks that former WBA/WBC 154lb champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) is one of his tougher opponents, but clearly not comparable to other guys he’s faced before during his long 14-year pro career.

When asked by Michelle Beattie whether Canelo was a top 3 opponent all-time, Cotto said he’s top 5. Cotto will be able to know for sure where the 25-year-old Canelo ranks in his all-time list when he steps inside the ring with him next month on November 21st in their fight on HBO pay-per-view from the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Hopkins: Canelo is in lead position to take Mayweather’s spot

1-cotto-canelo-m (10)By Dan Ambrose: Now that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is retired there’s debate about who the next superstar in the sport will be to take over his spot as the No.1 fighter in boxing that the fans can rally around. I’m not talking about the pound-for-pound rankings, which are put together by a small handful of people.

I’m talking about someone to take over Mayweather’s spot as the No.1 fighter that brings in the fans for pay-per-view. Bernard Hopkins thinks that guy in the lead position right now is former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs). For Canelo to take Mayweather’s throne completely, he’s going to need to beat WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto in their fight next month on November 21st.

Rafael says the 31-year-old Ward will be moving up to the light heavyweight division (175) for his next fight, which could take place on the undercard of the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Miguel Cotto card on November 21st at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cotto preparing for Canelo

cotto (10)By Allan Fox: After having been out of the ring since last June in his mismatch against Daniel Geale, WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) has started his training camp with trainer Freddie Roach to get him ready to face the tough Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) on November 21st at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 34-year-old Cotto is taking his toughest fight since losing to Austin Trout in 2012. Cotto is going to need to prove once and for all in the Canelo fight whether Roach has rejuvenated him with his training techniques or if he’s merely been playing a trick on himself by thinking he has.

Will Mayweather return for 50th fight?

Image: Will Mayweather return for 50th fight?By Matthias Predonzan: Very few people involved with boxing, from the casual fan to elite fighters and trainers, believe that Floyd Mayweather Jr. retired for real after his fight against Andre Berto.

The sport of boxing is not really having a great time lately and it looks like there is not yet any fighter ready to take Mayweather’s place at the top of it.

Quite impressive were the flattering words of Robert Garcia who declared, a few days ago, that Floyd still fighting like a 25 years old young man.

Roger Mayweather: Cotto will get whooped by Canelo!

Image: Roger Mayweather: Cotto will get whooped by Canelo!By
Dan Ambrose:
Trainer Roger Mayweather thinks that former WBA/WBC 154lb champ Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) will be just too big for WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) in their fight two months from now on November 21st on HBO pay-per-view from the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Roger expects that the 25-year-old Canelo will use his weight advantage to beat the smaller 5’7” Cotto. Roger thinks it’s going to be a real beat down for Canelo in this fight. The 5’9” Canelo rehydrates to the mid-170s at 175; whereas Cotto comes in at around 160 for his fights.

Canelo says Cotto fight won’t be like Mayweather-Pacquiao

1-cotto-canelo-m (10)By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) is guaranteeing that his November 21st match-up against WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) will be an exciting fight and totally unlike the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight on May 2nd this year.

Canelo seems to think that his fight will be better fight, but Canelo didn’t look good in his fights against Erislandy Lara, Austin Trout and Mayweather. Those weren’t boring fights because of Canelo’s opponents.

Canelo has to be favored over Cotto, says Malignaggi

Image: Canelo has to be favored over Cotto, says MalignaggiBy Dan Ambrose: With two months to go before the November 21st clash between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs), there is a great deal of indecision about which of these two fighters will emerge as the winner in their bout on HBO pay-per-view from the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino, Events Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

While some boxing fans believe that Cotto’s experience and brute power will be enough for him to get the victory, other fans see the 25-year-old Canelo’s youth and size being too much for the 34-year-old Cotto.

Stevenson-Karpency averaged 581K viewers on Spike

YouTube video

By Tim Fletcher: Last Friday’s fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (27-1, 22 KOs) and challenger Tommy Karpency (25-5-1, 14 KOs) brought in disappointing ratings on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV from the Ricoh Coliseum, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The fight brought in an average of 581,000 viewers on Spike with a peak of 784,000. Those numbers likely reflect the poor match-up that the fight was. Stevenson’s adviser Al Haymon should have known from the moment the contract was signed that there would be little fan interest in this mismatch.
