Is Mayweather’s prediction of Canelo easily beating GGG accurate?

Image: Is Mayweather’s prediction of Canelo easily beating GGG accurate?

By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently made a bold prediction in picking Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) to beat IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs). Mayweather not only believes that Canelo will beat Golovkin, but he’ll do it easily by knocking him out. Mayweather further said that Canelo should do what he wants.

Some boxing fans took this as code from Mayweather to mean that he should avoid taking the Golovkin fight. You can argue that Canelo has doing just that, as he still hasn’t faced Golovkin after two years. Golovkin has been interested in facing Canelo for ages now, and the fight still hasn’t happened.

Khan: Canelo beats Triple G and Chavez Jr.

By Dan Ambrose: Amir Khan is officially endorsing Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) in saying that he’ll not only beat former WBC 160lb champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) in their proposed fight on May 6, but he’ll also beat IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) as well.

Canelo and Golovkin, 34, could be fighting each other in September 2017 if the fight can get negotiated. Some boxing fans have serious reservations about the fight being made, as they think Canelo’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions are already working behind the scenes to make sure the Canelo-Golovkin fight doesn’t get made in 2017 by offering Golovkin only lump fee offers rather than a well-deserved proportion of the revenue.

Will Golden Boy push Canelo-Golovkin to 2018?

Image: Will Golden Boy push Canelo-Golovkin to 2018?

By Dan Ambrose: In choosing offer middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin a mere $15 million for a that could make well over $100 million against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) in September 2017, Golden Boy Promotions could be looking to kick the fight between these two fighters to 2018 before potentially making a serious attempt at putting the fight together. Think about it; Golden Boy is only offering Golovkin a flat fee rather than a percentage deal, which is the norm for when two stars are facing each other. It’s always nice to make predictions as one year ends and another starts up. My prediction is Golden Boy will continue to push the Canelo vs. Golovkin fight further into the future until Golovkin is too old to be a threat to Canelo.

The offer from Golden Boy to Golovkin can’t be interpreted in a serious way, because it can’t be a serious offer unless they see weakness in Golovkin’s promotional team when it comes to their ability to negotiate a fight.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Chavez Jr. expected to be confirmed next week

By Dan Ambrose: The Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fight is expected to be decided next week after the New Years. The offer of $6M has already been made to the 30-year-old Chavez Jr. and it’s now just a wait and see for Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions.

The $6 million also includes a cut of the PPV revenue from the HBO sales for the fight, which will take place on May 6 on the Cinco de Mayo holiday. It’s debatable how much interest there will be from the U.S boxing fans in a Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. fight because it’s a fight that is past it’s sell by date.

Canelo in training camp, showing speed for Chavez Jr. fight

By Dan Ambrose: Saul Canelo Alvarez is working out in camp to help sharpen up for a potential fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. In looking at Canelo throw air punches at his pudgy-looking trainer, he seems to be pretty fast – and quite big for someone who supposedly is a true 154lb pounder as his promoter Oscar De La Hoya maintains.

In the video, Canelo is throwing a lot of speedy punches and moving in circles. Canelo looks more than fast enough to fight the slow, and lumbering Chavez Jr. It’s a mismatch on paper unless Chavez Jr. can make huge improvements in his game from what we saw in his last fight against Dominik Britsch this month.

Canelo-Chavez Jr. fight hurts potential GGG match

By Dan Ambrose: It’s generally agreed that the fight the boxing world wants to see is Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in September 2017. That’s the fight that the fans have been talking about for the past year, and it’s the number 1 fight in all of the sport. However, with Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy looking to take a detour by fighting the still popular Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on May 6, they could be ruining the chances for a much bigger fight between Canelo and GGG next year.

The reason why is simple. Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. is going to make truckloads of money for both fighters with it likely pulling in more than 1 million buys on HBO pay-per-view, and potentially selling out the 80,000 seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Chavez Sr. says Canelo vs. Julio Jr. will break records

By Eric Baldwin: Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. is pretty excited about a potential record-breaking fight between his son former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs). The negotiations are going on for a fight between the two Mexican stars on May 6 at a still determined location in the United States. The weight for the fight will be at catchweight of 165 pounds.

Chavez sees the Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. fight as one that will break attendance records. For that to happen, it will need to take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. There aren’t any other larger venues than that for the fight to take place in the U.S.

Chavez Jr. to start training for Canelo fight in mid-February

By Dan Ambrose: According to coach Memo Heredia, he will start training camp with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) in early to mid-February to get him ready to make the 165 pound catchweight for his fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) if the fight gets made for May 6.

Negotiations are still underway between the management of Chavez Jr. and Canelo. Chavez Jr. has been given a $6 million offer that he and his management must make a decision on by this week for them to get the fight against the 26-year-old Canelo Alvarez on Cinco de Mayo on May 6.

Plan A for Canelo in 2017: Chavez Jr, Golovkin and Cotto

Image: Plan A for Canelo in 2017: Chavez Jr, Golovkin and Cotto

By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) reportedly has two plans for opponents in 2017. His plan A is to fight three times again the following fighters: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Gennady Golovkin and Miguel Cotto. The second plan is to switch out Chavez Jr. for WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders for May 6, and then stick with Golovkin and Cotto for his second and third fights of 2017.

Chavez Jr. has been given a 1-week deadline to agree to the $6 million offer given to him by Canelo’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions. This is a guaranteed offer. Chavez Jr. would also receive a percentage of the pay-per-view money from HBO. Chavez Jr. could wind up with as much as $10 million if the fight brings in over 1 million buys like sources believe it will do.
