Roach expects Cotto to rearrange Canelo’s face

roach45By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Freddie Roach thinks that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s face might not look too good after his fighter WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) gets done working him over this month in their fight on HBO PPV on November 21st. Roach doesn’t really have a lot of bad things to say about the 25-year-old Canelo, but he doesn’t believe he has the experience to beat the 35-year-old Cotto.

The experience that Canelo has had in the past has been in controversial wins over Erislandy Lara and Austin Trout, and a one-sided defeat at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“He’s [Canelo] still young. He has youth,” Roach said to RingTV.com. “He has a good right hand, and has knockout power in that right hand and he comes to fight. I just wonder how handsome he’ll be after the fight. I really think this will be the best fight of the year,” Roach said.

Crawford: Tim Bradley beats Canelo

bradley000By Dan Ambrose: WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley’s 9th round knockout win over a bloated and out of shape 170lb Brandon Rios (33-3-1, 24 KOs) last Saturday night has convinced WBO 140lb champion Terence Crawford that Bradley would beat former WBA/WBC 154lb champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez if he winds up as his next opponent he faces in 2016.

Bradley’s promoter Bob Arum has already mentioned that the 25-year-old Canelo is a possibility for Bradley if Canelo defeats WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) in their fight on November 21st this month in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cotto vs. Canelo: A Clash of Two Reluctant Warriors

AlvarezWorkout4Mayweather_Hoganphotos8(Photo credit: Hogan Photos) By J Caldwell: Make no mistake about it, when the opening bell is finally rung on November 21, 2015, the highly anticipated matchup between Miguel Cotto, Puerto Rico’s leading man and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Mexico’s rising son, should provide the sports world with a night of some incredible boxing.

Perhaps the thing that makes this particular Saturday night so magical will be the fighters themselves: in the case of Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) what you’ll have is a rejuvenated older fighter with a small chip in his corner…that being the bombastic but highly controversial trainer in Freddie Roach. Standing in the opposite corner, however, will be the younger, stronger and hungrier fighter in “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1 32 KOs).

Cotto-Canelo rematch likely if fight is competitive

CANELO ÁLVAREZ media day workoutBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) can probably forget all about him getting the winner of the November 21st super fight between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs). According to a source close to the 35-year-old Cotto, he’ll be electing to fight Canelo again in a rematch if the fight is close and competitive.

Of course, there’s no way of knowing whether the Cotto-Canelo fight will be a close one, but it doesn’t take a genius to see a rematch happening anyway, as long as the fight generates a ton of pay-per-view buys on HBO.

Cotto sees hard work as key to beating Canelo

cotto-media (3)By Dam Ambrose: For some fighters, it’s great power or superb strategy as the reasons for them to win their fights. For WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs), he sees it as a case of him putting in the hard work for him to defeat the 25-year-old Canelo Alvarez in their fight this month on November 21st at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cotto, 35, has been given his marching orders by his trusted and well-respected trainer Freddie Roach, and he plans on following those instructions to the letter. Roach likes to talk to the media a great deal, and he’s pretty much given away the strategy that they’ll be using to beat the hulking 170+ Canelo on 11/21.

Arum still wants Bradley-Rios winner to fight Canelo or Pacquiao

arum9By Dan Ambrose: Promoter Bob Arum hasn’t changed his mind about him wanting the winner of this Saturday’s fight between WBO welterweight champion (32-1-1, 12 KOs) vs. Brandon Rios (33-2-1, 24 KOs) to fight either Saul “Canelo” Alvarez if he beats WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto on November 21st, or Manny Pacquiao on April 9th.

Arum is only extending the invitation for the Pacquiao fight to Bradley if he comes out victorious. Arum does not want Rios to fight Pacquiao again because their previous fight was so one-sided in 2013.

Golovkin: No chance I’ll fight at 155 for Canelo

Image: Golovkin: No chance I’ll fight at 155 for CaneloBy Dan Ambrose: Two weeks after former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) drew a line in the sand in terms of telling IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) that he’ll have to fight him at a catch-weight of 155 pounds if he wants to face him in the near future, Golovkin has answered back by saying there’s no way he’s going to fight the 25-year-old Canelo at a catch-weight of 155, 156 or 158.

If Canelo wants the fight with him, he’ll have to fight him at the full weight of 160lbs for the middleweight division. Golovkin says he would only go down in weight to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Brandon Rios with chance for Canelo or Canelo fights

Rios_BD7F2024(Photo Credit: Chris Farina/Top Rank) By Tim Fletcher: Brandon Rios (33-2-1, 24 KOs) has a chance to get a big payday if he can beat WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (32-1-1, 12 KOs) on Saturday night in their fight on HBO. According to Rios’ trainer Robert Garcia, Rios’ manager Cameron Dunkin is talking about Rios potentially fighting Saul “Canelo” Alvarez or Miguel Cotto, depending on which of those two fighters emerge victorious from their fight on November 21st.

It’s obvious a little more tricky if Cotto is the one who comes out on top in his fight against Canelo, because he used to be with Top Rank and it is unclear whether he’ll be agreeable to fight a Top Rank fighter like Rios.

De La Hoya: The best is yet to come for Canelo Alvarez

delahoya1By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA/WBC 154lb champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) participated in his media day in San Diego House of Boxing gym. Canelo, 25, is getting ready for his HBO PPV fight against WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) this month on 11/21 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo’s longtime promoter Oscar De La Hoya believes that he’s going to find success in this fight, and that this is only the beginning for his fighter. De La Hoya believes that Canelo is on his way to becoming a huge star, especially now that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is no longer around to hog the limelight.
