Bradley vs. Rios winner could face Canelo

bradley222By Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says he’s had a conversation with Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya about having Saul “Canelo” Alvarez face the winner of the November 7th fight between Top Rank fighters Brandon Rios and Tim Bradley. According to Arum, De La Hoya loves the idea.

Arum wants either Rios or Bradley to face Canelo next if he gets past WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto in their fight next month on November 21st. As for WBC mandatory challenger Gennady Golovkin, he would be the odd man out in the equation.

Canelo: Golovkin fight can be done in the future when I’m ready for 160

1-CANELO ALVAREZ 01By Allan Fox: Former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) reiterated that he’s still not a real middleweight, and that a fight a fight against IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) can happen at some point in the future when he feels he’s ready to fight 160lb fighters.

Canelo’s fight against WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) on November 21st will likely be a one off thing for Canelo rather than him sticking it out in the middleweight class if he beats Cotto. Canelo doesn’t appear to be ready to hold onto the WBC title and defend it against Golovkin.

Team Golovkin: No catch-weight handicaps For Canelo Alvarez!

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Dan Ambrose: If former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) needs a catch-weight handicap in order to face IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs), then it’s not going to happen, according to his trainer Abel Sanchez.

Sanchez says that Canelo will need to vacate the WBC middleweight title, if he defeats the current WBC 160lb champ Miguel Cotto, and then tries to force Golovkin to fight him at a catch-weight in his mandatory title defense of the belt. Golovkin is currently the #1 WBC middleweight mandatory challenger for the title, and he’s next up for a shot at the WBC belt.

Chavez Jr: I pick Canelo to win

chavez9999By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is picking Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) to defeat WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) in their fight next month on November 21st. Chavez Jr. says he’s picking Canelo to win due to him being Mexican, younger and because he simply doesn’t like the 34-year-old Cotto very much for some reason.

Chavez Jr. points out that Cotto fights in catch-weights against guys who aren’t very good against fights that are basically showcase mismatches where the entire world knows who’s going to win the fight.

Only Canelo can go 12 rounds with GGG

Image: Only Canelo can go 12 rounds with GGGBy Bob Smith: Though the upcoming bout between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto will be a good one, I think Cotto has the edge, mainly due to an excellent article here by one of my favorite authors.

The article enumerates the advantages of Cotto, which are pretty much everything other than youth and power.

Eubank Jr. wants Cotto, Canelo, Quillin and Jacobs

eubank56565By Scott Gilfoid: Not satisfied with name dropping IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s name, WBA interim 160lb champ Chris Eubank Jr. (20-1, 15 KOs) has now added the names of four more fighters to that list. The 26-year-old Eubank Jr now says he wants to share the ring with Miguel Cotto, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Peter Quillin and Daniel Jacobs within the next year or two, along with Golovkin.

That’s a pretty long list of fighters, and obviously the only way that Eubank Jr. will be able to fight all of them is if he wins all of his fights in the next two years. This means that Eubank Jr. will need to defeat #11 WBA Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan in their fight on December 12th, and then he’ll need to beat the winner of the Quillin vs. Jacobs fight.

Triple G’s Numbers 150k and Perfectly fine

1-GolovkinLemieux_HoganphotosBy Rick Jones III: The last 20 years boxing has been held by it’s throat by Floyd Mayweather Jr. The boxer that considers himself “The Greatest Of All Time,” had a real tight grip on the sport of boxing. The boxer then retired as of Sep 12th of 2015, which I have marked on my calendar the day boxing was reborn and possibly the best thing that has happen for the professional sport.

The pay-per-view numbers finally came out for the Gennady Golovkin – David Lemieux fight, which hit a little bit over 150,000 buys on HBO last Saturday night. So does that mean that the famous Triple G is not worthy of the throne Mayweather Jr. left behind? No…HELL NO! What this means is that the sport of boxing is actually level and balanced.

Canelo willing to try anything to beat Cotto

cotto-canelo-pr (4)By Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) had better be prepared for anything when he faces former WBA/WBC 154lb champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) next month on 11/21, because the Mexican Canelo says he’s willing to take out all the stops to beat Cotto in their HBO PPV fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.

Canelo, 25, needs a win over Cotto to take his career to the next level right now, because his past performances against Floyd Mayweather Jr, Erislandy Lara and Austin Trout have stunted his growth as a star.

Cotto, 34, is near the end of his career, so a loss for him isn’t as bad. But a defeat for the red-haired Canelo would be disastrous.

“[I will do] whatever it takes. I’m ready to give whatever it takes in the ring to win this fight. I will go in there and give the best of myself to make sure that it’s my hand is raised on November 21st,” Canelo said via fighthype.com.
