Brook: Khan will lose to Canelo

brook4By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook seems to have taken the news pretty well of Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) passing him up for WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs). Brook, 29, had been hoping to face Khan on June 4, in a nice paying fight at Wembley Stadium in London, UK.

Instead of Brook getting the Khan fight, he is left with nothing. All he can hope for is maybe his promoter Eddie Hearn setting up a unification fight against WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia instead for the summer. That is not a Wembley Stadium type of fighter, however.

Brook says he is not sure if Khan is cashing out with the fight against the much bigger 25-year-old Canelo Alvarez. Never the less, Brook does not see it as a winnable fight for Khan.

De La Hoya thinks Canelo-Khan will do 1 million PPV buys

delahoya5By Dan Ambrose: The ticket prices for the May 7 fight between WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) and Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) are still not know at this time because the venue hasn’t been locked down 100 percent as of yet for the contest.

The fight is expected to take place at the T-Mobile Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Canelo’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions is expecting the Canelo vs. Khan fight to bring in better pay-per-view numbers on HBO than the 900,000 buys Canelo’s last fight against Miguel Cotto brought in last November.

De La Hoya believes the Canelo-Khan fight can bring in over 1 million buys. I think there’s a good chance that the Canelo-Khan fight could bring in over 1 million PPV buys.

Khan: Canelo is twice as good as Kell Brook

khan66By Scott Gilfoid: After recently making a fruitless attempt to setup a big stadium fight against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) abandoned the efforts and chose instead to challenge WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) on May 7 on HBO pay-per-view in a fight that will be staged in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Khan says that he believes that Canelo is twice as good as the 29-year-old Brook, who he says turned down a big money offer from him. Khan says he made a big money offer, but Brook turned it down.

It was Brook’s rejection of his offer that led to Khan to look in another direction towards the Canelo fight, and surprisingly he was able to get it straightaway. There was a bit of disagreement about the weight for the fight, as Khan reportedly wanted it to take place at 154 and Canelo wanted it at 155 so that he could defend his WBC middleweight title with the fight.

Froch: I think Khan can beat Canelo

frochBy Scott Gilfoid: Former world champion Carl Froch thinks that the much smaller and weaker welterweight Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) has a chance to pull off an upset over WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) in their fight on HBO PPV on May 7. Khan, 29, is likely to be a significant underdog in this fight because he’ll be giving away from 25 to 30 pounds to the much heavier Canelo.

At best, Khan might come into the fight at 155lbs, which will pale in comparison to Canelo, who is said by some to be weighing in the region of 185lbs after he rehydrates for his fights. Froch respects Khan for taking the fight, because it takes a lot of courage to fight someone that much heavier than him.

Canelo is even heavier than Froch was during his career. Froch stayed in the 170s for his fights at super middleweight. That kind of tells how out of proportion Canelo is in the middleweight division, especially with his habit of fighting at a catch-weight of 155lbs.

Canelo vs. Amir Khan: Could the lamb to the slaughter be an unlikely hero?

khan1111By Robbie Bannatyne: Many say,’be shocked but never surprised’ by the strange happenings that can occur in elite sports. But you could almost hear the collective gasp of shock and surprise from the boxing world when we 1st heard that WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) will fight Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) on May 7 on HBO pay-per-view. Hours after waking up to a message regarding the bout via Facebook, from a boxing mad friend back home in Scotland, I am still struggling to digest the dramatic turn of events.

Even most boxing insiders seem to be genuinely flabbergasted by the way fight was fashioned straight from the left field. It appears everyone was blindsided by news of the bout.

My initial reaction was one of utter disbelief. But now, as the news slowly begins to settle, I can see sense in the bout.

Khan vs. Canelo set for May 7th in Las Vegas

canelo7By Ivan Godfrey: The boxing world was sent into a frenzy of shock and debate yesterday, following the unexpected announcement of a fight between Britain’s two-time world champion Amir `King` Khan(31-3,19ko`s) and the WBC middleweight champion of the world Saul `Canelo` Alvarez(46-1-1,32ko`s).

No one in the industry (bar the two boxer`s management teams) predicted this to be the match up for the fiery haired Mexican`s first defence of the title he acquired from the legendary Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto in November of last year. Most anticipated the welterweight Khan would be facing either his fellow Brit Kell Brook at Wembley stadium in June, or failing that, WBC champion Danny Garcia.

Khan has a lot of balls in taking Canelo fight, says Roach

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27VH8lzzAmg

By Dan Ambrose: Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) surprised the boxing world on Tuesday with the announcement of his May 7 fight against WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) on HBO PPV. One of those people that were surprised was Khan’s old trainer Freddie Roach, who feels that he’s showing a lot of courage to be facing the much heavier Canelo Alvarez instead of someone his own size like IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook.

Roach: Khan will need to fight perfect fight to beat Canelo

roach5By Dan Ambrose: Amir Khan’s former trainer Freddie Roach says he thinks Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) should have taken the easier fight against IBF welterweight Kell Brook rather than facing the much bigger and more talented WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) on May 7.

The Canelo-Khan fight was announced earlier Tuesday and it will be televised on HBO pay-per-view. Roach feels that it is a potentially bad match-up for Khan to be facing a guy the size and talent level of Canelo. Roach thinks that Khan will need to fight the absolute perfect fight for him to come up with a victory against Canelo.

Gennady Golovkin vs. Dominic Wade is better fight than Canelo-Khan

Image: Gennady Golovkin vs. Dominic Wade is better fight than Canelo-KhanBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) is expected to face unbeaten #3 IBF Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) on April 23 at The Forum in Inglewood, California. The fight hasn’t been announced as of yet by Golovkin’s promoters at K2, but Wade, 25, is said to be the likely opponent for Golovkin’s interim fight on 4/23 on HBO.

While Golovkin will be facing the tough as nails Wade, WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) has pooled from the welterweight division to find Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs), who will be forced to move up in weight two divisions to face Canelo at a catch-weight of 155lbs.

Shah Khan: The Kell Brook fight is always there for Amir

khan67777By Scott Gilfoid: Poor IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) finds himself being ignored and passed over by Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) for Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs). It’s become kind of the norm for Brook to be ignored and passed over by Khan for fights, and by now, he should expect that kind of treatment.

Khan will be fighting Canelo on May 7 on HBO PPV in a big money fight. Khan’s father Shah Khan says that Canelo was the third most appealing fight for Khan after 1. Floyd Mayweather Jr. and 2. Manny Pacquiao. That makes sense.
