Golovkin can’t afford to look too good against Brook

golovkin633

By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is under the impression that if he looks too good in beating Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) this Saturday night, it could cause Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions not to take the fight against him. Golovkin laughs that maybe he should use the strategy of not looking good so that it will get him the fight against Canelo.

It’s sad that Golovkin might lose out on a fight against the popular Mexican fighter Canelo if he beats his opponents too impressively, because a fighter should be able to earn big fights after looking good. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way in boxing.

Canelo says people making Golovkin fight not happen

canelo777

By Dan Ambrose: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez says that some of the people around IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s are doing things that are causing the fight not to happen. It seems that Canelo’s comments about that the people around Golovkin is a shot across the bow to let them know that they need to pipe down if they want the fight to ever happen. Canelo is in the position where he can make sure that Golovkin never gets the fight if he wants.

It would be a case of Canelo shooting himself in his own foot by not taking the fight against Triple G, but he likely has enough Liam Smith type opponents out there for him to fight where he’ll be alright.

Liam Smith plans on upsetting Canelo’s plans for GGG fight

smith765

By Dan Ambrose: WBO junior middleweight champion Liam “Beefy” Smith (23-0-1, 13 KOs) has heard all the talk about Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs) vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin fight in the future, but he plans on shutting down that talk permanently after he gives the Mexican fighter a defeat on September 17 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Smith says he’s going to beat Canelo, shock the boxing world, and announce himself to the U.S fans with his victory.

Canelo, 26, is seen as the clear favorite in this fight, so Smith is going to need to show the odds-makers and the fans that they were wrong to see him as the underdog in this fight. Smith isn’t surprised that he’s the underdog because he realizes that many of the fans in the States have never seen him fight before.

Canelo v GGG – The Canelo conundrum

canelo197

By David Preston: Over the last 12 months, there has been an intensifying desire to see Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin get inside the squared circle and do battle. Without question, this would be a fight every fan would want to see. Unfortunately, the politics of boxing, more specifically one man’s politics, has put the bout on hold.

By now every ardent boxing fan is aware of what has recently transpired between the camps of both fighters. From the name dropping to the tough post-fight talk to the promised good-faith negotiations to the senseless relinquishing of the WBC belt and so on. It is now abundantly clear that something is amiss.

Canelo willing to fight McGregor in boxing match

1-CaneloSDWorkout_Hoganphotos2

By Dan Ambrose: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez may not be ready to fight unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in a the ring, but one fighter that he does appear ready to face is MMA star Conor McGregor, albeit in a boxing match and not in his own sport. Two fighters have been trading barbs at one another since McGregor took a shot at him by pointing out that there is too much “cherry picking” going on in the sport of boxing.

Canelo then returned fire by saying that McGregor “gasses out after two rounds.” That was before McGregor’s recent five round decision over Nate Diaz in their rematch last month at UFC 202. Now Canelo is saying he’ll fight McGregor if he comes to the sport of boxing.

Golovkin: Canelo is scared to fight

golovkin1

By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) says he thinks Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs), who he sees as Golden Boy Promotions’ “Golden child” is afraid to fight him, and he thinks he’s not going to fight him in September of 2017 like he was led to believe.

Instead, Golovkin feels that Canelo will choose to give him a low-ball offer of $2 million for the fight. When Golovkin fails to agree to the offer, Canelo will tell say to the media that GGG didn’t accept the offer that was given to him.

Golovkin says that Canelo will then move on and fight someone like Antonio Margarito or Manny Pacquiao. Golovkin sees the fight against Canelo bring put off for another three more years, possibly as long as five more years. He sees Canelo making him wait a long, long time before he finally agrees to fight him.

Liam Smith confident of beating Canelo Alvarez

YouTube video

By Dan Ambrose: Despite being the clear undercard, WBO junior middleweight champion Liam “Beefy” Smith (23-0-1, 13 KOs) is very confident about his chances of beating the red-haired Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs) on September 17 in their big fight on HBO pay-per-view. Smith is pleased knowing that he’s going to beat the 26-year-old Canelo and then be asked to give him a rematch, which he’ll gladly do for the right price.

Smith’s asking price will go up for the second time around when he gets Canelo inside the ring. A loss for Canelo will be a real downer for his career, because he can’t march forward with a loss to someone like Smith like he did after his defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his subsequent highly controversial decision win over Erislandy Lara.

Canelo-Smith: Over 25K tickets already sold

1-CaneloSDWorkout_Hoganphotos7

By Dan Ambrose: It remains to be seen whether the September 17 fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and WBO junior middleweight champion Liam “Beefy” Smith will produce many pay-per-view buys, but the fight seems to be selling well in terms of ticket sales. According to Golden Boy Promotions vice president Eric Gomez, the fight has sold over 25,000 for the 80,000 seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya has already come out to say that he expects 60,000 tickets to be sold. That might actually happen if they drop the price in the last few days before the bout. If the tickets are discounted steeply at the last minute, they might get a large walkup crowd of boxing fans that didn’t pre-pay for the tickets.

Canelo & trainers very complimentary of Liam Smith

canelo197

By Dan Ambrose: In what has to be seen as a signal that the boxing public is about to see another mismatch involving Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, he and his trainers are now building up WBO junior middleweight champion Liam Smith (23-0-1, 13 KOs) by saying nice things about him in the media about how good he is.

Canelo is fighting the little known Smith on HBO pay-per-view at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The fans don’t seem to be showing much interest in the fight because they see Smith as pretty much just a sacrificial lamb that Team Canelo and Golden Boy have carefully selected. With Team Canelo now trying to build Smith up with the American boxing fans, it tells you that this is another bad mismatch like Canelo’s last fight against the badly flawed struggling welterweight Amir Khan.

Canelo: The Golovkin fight will happen when I want it to

Image: Canelo: The Golovkin fight will happen when I want it to

By Dan Ambrose: Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez wants IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin to fully understand that he’s the A-side, and that the fight will happen only when he decides it will happen in the future. Right now, Canelo doesn’t see any point in fighting Golovkin, but when that moment comes that he’s ready, he’ll give him the word and Golovkin will be able to come to him at that time. In other words, Canelo wants Golovkin to know once again that he’s calling ALL the shots and all he can do is sit and wait for his word.

Canelo describes Golovkin as an “older fighter” that still has yet to fight anyone good. Canelo says his own legacy is being formed with every fight because he’s already fought high quality opposition and GGG still has not.

“I’ve fought some of the best fighters in the world, every fight I’m making history,” Alvarez said via the dailystar. “He’s the older fighter and he hasn’t fought anybody. The fight’s going to happen, it has to happen, but he hasn’t fought anybody so why would you put GGG in the history books if he hasn’t fought anybody? Everyone knows I’m the A-side. The fight will happen when I want it to.”
