Dirrell: I want a rematch against Bika

03 Dirrell vs Bika IMG_2229(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: In a foul-plagued fight where the referee pretty much backed off with a Laissez-faire type of approach to controlling the action, WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika (32-5-3, 21 KO’s) was able to keep his title by fighting to a 12 round draw against the talented Anthony Dirrell (26-0-1, 22 KO’s) last night at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York.

Dirrell landed the cleaner and harder shots throughout the fight. But most importantly, Dirrell fought a good, clean fight and he deserved to have his hand raised at the end, but two of the judges saw it differently with one of them scoring it 114-112 for Bika and the other 113-113 even.

Anthony Dirrell vs. Sakio Bika tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY

12 Bika _Hopkins _Dirrell IMG_0762(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: Tonight we could be seeing the coming out party for unbeaten #8 WBC Anthony Dirrell (26-0, 22 KO’s) in his title challenge against WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika (32-5-2, 21 KO’s) on Showtime from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Anthony Dirrell is the younger brother of the well known Andre Dirrell, and he’s an incredibly talented fighter that is arguably in the to #2 to #3 in the 168 lb. division.

Anthony was supposed to have fought former WBC champion Andre Ward last year, but a motorcycle accident halted Dirrell’s big plans. Now a year later with a different champion, Dirrell is ready to take what he feels should rightfully be his when he steps inside the ring tonight to face the 34-year-old Bika. Dirrell is considered the underdog, but I have a feeling he’s going to make a lot of fools out of the betting public tonight by beating Bika by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision.

Anthony Dirrell vs. Sakio Bika possible for Judah-Malignaggi card on December 7th

dirrell23134By Scott Gilfoid: A fight between unbeaten #7 WBC, #12 IBF Anthony Dirrell (26-0, 22 KO’s) and WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika (32-5-2, 21 KO’s) is possible for the December 7th Zab Judah vs. Paulie Malignaggi card at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

This is the 28-year-old Dirrell’s big chance for a title shot. He was set to get a shot against former WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward in 2012, but Dirrell was injured in a motorcycle accident in May of last year that removed any chances of him getting a crack at Ward’s strap.

Bika interested in facing Froch, Golovkin or Ward

bika1By Scott Gilfoid: Newly crowned WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika (32-5-2, 21 KO’s) is interested in facing Carl Froch, Gennady Golovkin or Andre Ward for his next fight. Bika recently captured the vacant WBC 168 lb. title win a win over Marco Antonio Periban last month in beating him by a 12 round majority decision in a fairly close fight.

Froch, the IBF/WBA super middleweight champion, is the guy that Bika wants the most for some reason. Bika told Fightnews “Definitely, Froch is the fight I want…this is the fight that all boxing fans around the world want to see.”

I’m not so sure the boxing world is clamoring for a Bika vs. Froch fight.

Banks vs Mitchell, Bika vs Periban on Broner-Malinaggi undercard

banks4By Thomas Cowan: This Saturday, Seth Mitchell faces fellow American heavyweight Johnathon Banks in New York on the Adrien Broner vs Paulie Malinaggi undercard. These two faced each other in Atlantic City in 2012, where heavy favourite Mitchell was blown out in two rounds by Banks. There’s been a lot of hype in the last year about the “new breed” of heavyweights but the hype has been dying down recently.

Mitchell was destroyed by Banks, Deontay Wilder still isn’t fighting anyone remotely good and across the pond David Price was shocked by aging Tony Thompson, while Tyson Fury looked awful against Steve Cunningham. I really can’t see any of these four putting up any kind of fight against a Klitschko brother and I even have serious doubts over whether any of them could last 5 rounds with David Haye.

DeGale wants Bika-Periban winner for WBC 168 lb. title

degale66By Scott Gilfoid: #5 WBC, James DeGale (16-1, 11 KO’s) is targeting the winner of the June 22nd fight this month between #1 WBC, Sakio Bika (31-5-2, 21 KO’s) and Marco Antonio Periban (20-0, 13 KO’s) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Bika and Periban are fighting for the vacant World Boxing Council 168 lb. title stripped from former WBC champion Andre Ward by the WBC after Ward suffered an injury to his right shoulder.

Last Saturday night, DeGale stopped Stjepan Bozic in the 4th round. After the fight, DeGale said to Channel 5 “I’m in the perfect position for the WBC. I’m the WBC Silver champion, I’m ranked #4 or #5 [DeGale is ranked #5].

Bika-Periban approved for Andre Ward’s WBC super middleweight title on 6/8

bika2By Scott Gilfoid: The World Boxing Council has done #1 WBC Sakio Bika 31-5-2, 21 KO’s) and #4 WBC Marco Antonio Periban (20-0, 13 KO’s) a HUGE favor by stripping the WBC super middleweight title from injured champion Andre Ward and letting Bika and Periban to fight for the title.

It was announced this week that the WBC has approved the Bika vs. Periban fight to battle for Ward’s WBC super middleweight title for this fight rather than just having it as a normal fight. The WBC has given Ward the Emeritus tag, which gives him the right to come back and fight the winner of the Bika-Periban fight as soon as his injured shoulder heals if Ward still wants the fight.
