Bika vs. Periban to battle for Andre Ward’s vacant WBC 168 lb. title on June 8th

bika33By Allan Fox: The World Boxing Council stripped Andre Ward of his WBC super middleweight title on Thursday because he was still injured and hadn’t defended it since last September when he beat Chad Dawson.

The WBC instead will have Ward’s vacant WBC 168 lb. title on the line on June 8th when #1 WBC, Sakio Bika (31-5-2, KO’s) faces #4 WBC, Marco Antonio Periban (20-0, 13 KO’s) at the Home Depot Center, Carson, California, USA, according to Dan Rafael.

This move doesn’t really make a lot of sense because Floyd Mayweather Jr, the WBC welterweight champion, hasn’t defended his WBC title since capturing it in September of 2011 with a 4th round stoppage win over Victor Ortiz.

Broner stops Rees; Bika defeats Sjekloca

broner33By Jim Dower: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) added another knockout on his resume on Saturday night in stopping a game but over-matched Gavin Rees (37-2-1, 18 KO’s) in the 5th round at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Broner, 23, knocked Rees down twice in the fight, once in the 4th, another time in the 5th. The fight was halted after Broner hurt Rees with a left to the body that knocked him down. After Rees got back to his feet, Broner flurried on him until Rees’ corner threw in the towel to have the fight stopped.

Bika-Sjekloca tomorrow in WBC 168 lb. eliminator

YouTube video
By Scott Gilfoid: #2 WBC Sakio Bika (30-5-2, 21 KO’s) made weight today for his critical fight on Saturday against #1 WBC Nikola Sjekloca (25-0, 7 KO’s) in their World Boxing Council super middleweight eliminator bout at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The winner of this fight will be facing Lucian Bute for the vacant WBC super middleweight title.

Bika, 33, has got the power to beat Sjekloca if he’s able to get in close and force him to fight on the inside where Sjekloca has only minimal skills. Sjekloca is strictly an outside fighter like a lot of European fighters are, and he’s not going to handle Bika’s pressure too well if Bika is able to stay on top of him for the full 12 rounds.

Sakio Bika faces Nikola Sjekloca this Saturday, February 16th in Atlantic City, New Jersey

bika2By Dan Ambrose: This Saturday night, unbeaten #1 WBC contender Nikola Sjekloca (25-0, 7 KO’s) will have a tough test on his hands against #2 WBC Sakio Bika (30-5-2, 21 KO’s) in a WBC super middleweight title eliminator bout. The winner of this bout faces former IBF 168 lb. champion Lucian Bute for the WBC super middleweight title. Bika, 33, will likely win this fight due to his much better power and experience.

Bika lost to Lucian six years ago by a 12 round unanimous decision. However, a lot has changed since then, as Bute was badly beaten by Carl Froch last May, and Bute didn’t look good in his recent win over Denis Grachev.

Bute may fight Bika-Sjekloca winner for WBC 168 lb. title in 2013

froch324324By Scott Gilfoid: Rather than wasting time fighting IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch and possibly ending up on the short end of the stick when it comes to negotiations, former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-1, 24 KO’s) may wind up facing the winner of next month’s fight between Sakio Bika and Sjekloca for the soon to be vacant WBC super middleweight title, according to rds.ca.

The World Boxing Council is rumored to be on the verge of taking the current WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward and giving him the old “Emeritus” status, so his title will be available for other fighters to fight over. Ward recently injured his right shoulder in sparring for his cancelled fight with Kelly Pavlik, and he required surgery to repair the problem.
