Arum: Cotto-Mayorga winner in the mix for Pacquiao fight

Image: Arum: Cotto-Mayorga winner in the mix for Pacquiao fightBy Chris Williams: At Friday’s weigh-in between WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) and 38-year-old Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 23 KO’s), Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who promotes Cotto, said “The winner of this fight is in contention to fight Manny Pacquiao.” That’s a sickening thought. Mayorga or Cotto facing Pacquiao? Come on, why not put Pacquiao in with someone that actually has a chance to beat him like Saul Alvarez? The Cotto-Mayorga fight will be held at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cotto is coming off of shoulder surgery, and hasn’t fought since last year in June when he defeated an injured Yuri Foreman by a 9th round stoppage.

Mayorga: I’m going to knock Cotto out because he’s a coward

Image: Mayorga: I'm going to knock Cotto out because he's a cowardBy Jason Kim: After WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto once again failed to stand and face off with Ricardo Mayorga at their press conference and look him in the eye after their weigh-in for Saturday’s bout, an animated Mayorga said “I’m going to knock him out because he’s a coward. Look at him walk away.” Cotto quickly walked out of the arena moments after weighing in at 154 while Mayora kept motioning for Cotto to come back and face him but Cotto wouldn’t do it. There’s some things that fighters have to do and one of those is to face off with their opponents. Mayorga really got the best of Cotto when he presented a red rose to him. Cotto looked bad by not facing up to Mayorga after that.

Image: Cotto's anger will make it easier for Mayorga to win on SaturdayBy Dan Ambrose: Photo credit Chris Farina/Top Rank – WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto has been like a punching bag for Ricardo Mayorga to pummel around during their press conferences together to promote their fight on Saturday at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cotto, not a good talker, has been way out of his element against the witty trash-talking Mayorga. Instead of coming up with some good comeback remarks, Cotto has sat and stewed. In the final press conference, Cotto even refused the traditional face off with Mayorga.

Cotto-Mayorga on Saturday: Will Miguel retire if he gets knocked out again?

By Eric Thomas: Some boxing fans believe that WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KO’s) is a shot fighter after his beatings at the hands of Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao. Cotto recently won the WBA title against a fighter from the same promotional company as him, Yuri Foreman, but Cotto beat a guy with one good leg and no power. Cotto didn’t prove in that fight that he still has anything left in the tank.

Mayorga predicting 4th round TKO of Cotto on Saturday

By Dan Ambrose: You got to love the way that Ricardo Mayorga is working WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto ahead of their fight this Saturday night at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayora has already gotten the better of Cotto at all of their press conferences with his gift for gab, and he’s now predicting a 4th round knockout on Saturday against Miguel. I’m not sure if Mayorga will stop Cotto that quick, because Cotto will probably be running in the early part of the fight and trying to keep away from Mayorga.

Mayorga: The Puerto Ricans will leave Mayorga fans on Saturday

Image: Mayorga: The Puerto Ricans will leave Mayorga fans on SaturdayBy Dan Ambrose: Photo credit Chris Farina/Top Rank – Ricardo Mayorga sees himself winning over WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto’s own people on Saturday night in their fight at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The much better speaking Mayorga has ruled the press conferences with the quiet and shy Cotto, making him look like a wallflower in comparison. On Monday’s press conference, Mayorga ratcheted up the trash talk one step further by saying he’ll wind up with Cotto’s fans following him after Saturday.

Cotto vs. Mayorga this Saturday: Ricardo says Miguel will retire after this fight

Image: Cotto vs. Mayorga this Saturday: Ricardo says Miguel will retire after this fightBy Dan Ambrose Ricardo Mayorga says he’s going to retire WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto this Saturday night at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayorga wants to not only beat Cotto but humiliate and send him into permanent retirement from the sport. Cotto is the favorite in this fight but you can’t really put much stock in that because of how poor Cotto has been looking in his fights against quality opposition.
