By Dan Ambrose: Former two time World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Paul Williams (39-2, 27 KO’s) goes up against unbeaten Cuban Erislandy Lara (15-1, 10 KO’s) next month on July 9th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This is good fight but a very risky one for the 29-year-old Williams, as he’s coming off of a 2nd round knockout loss to WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez in November of last year in an especially bad knockout for Williams.

Paul Williams vs. Erislandy Lara on July 9th
By Eric Thomas: Former World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Paul Williams (39-2, 27 KO’s) has found a replacement opponent for his July 9th fight at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Williams, 29, will be fighting in the main event on the card against unbeaten but recently exposed Erislandy Lara (15-0-1, 10 KO’s). Williams was supposed to be fighting the light hitting junior middleweight contender Nobuhiro Ishida next.
HBO decides not to approve Paul Williams vs. Nobuhiro Ishida, says ESPN
By Jason Kim: According to the latest boxing news, Dan Rafael of ESPN is reporting that HBO has had second thoughts about the scheduled July 9th 10 round bout between Paul Williams vs. Nobuhiro Ishida and are withdrawing approval for the fight. Williams, 29, will now have to look for another opponent to fight. Williams was stopped in the 2nd round by Sergio Martinez last November in a brutal knockout loss.
Paul Williams vs. Nobuhiro Ishida on July 9th in HBO main event
By Dan Ambrose: Dan Rafael is reporting that former IBF welterweight champion Paul Williams (39-2, 27 KO’s) will be facing junior middleweight contender Nobuhiro Ishida (23-6-2, 8 KO’s) on July 9th on HBO. The fight, oddly enough, will be a main event fight and that’s hard to believe given Williams’ recent 2nd round knockout loss to Sergio Martinez in his last fight. You would think that Williams needs to work his way back to a main event fight rather than getting a choice position by HBO against a still mostly unknown Ishida.
Paul Williams to fight on July 9th, possibly against Ishida or Latimore
By Jason Kim: Former WBO welterweight champion Paul Williams (39-2, 27 KO’s) is looking to be matched tough in his first fight since his brutal 2nd round knockout loss to Sergio Martinez last November in 2010. Williams, 29, was knocked unconscious by the hard left hand that Martinez tagged him with. Normally a fighter that suffers a bad knockout like that usually takes it easy for a while by taking on one or two softer opponents before stepping it up against tough fighters, but Williams is looking to take on some fairly tough targets in Nobuhiro Ishida (23-6-2, 8 KO’s) or Deandre Latimore (22-3, 17 KO’s).
Kell Brook interested in fighting Paul Williams
By Sean McDaniel: Unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook (23-0, 16 KO’s) is reportedly eying a fight with former welterweight champion Paul Williams (39-2, 27 KOs) this summer. It would be a great fight if Brook could get it. Williams was recently knocked cold by Sergio Martinez in a 2nd round KO last November.
Paul Williams and Adrien Broner a possibility in an HBO doubleheader for 6/11
By Jim Dower: Steve Kim from maxboxing is reporting that HBO is looking to put together a June 11th doubleheader with Paul Williams (39-2, 27 KO’s) making a comeback against a still to be determined opponent and unbeaten super featherweight contender Adrien Broner (20-0, 16 KO’s) fighting in the second part of the card.
Paul Williams to return to action on 4/30, as a welterweight
By Dan Ambrose: Former two-time WBO welterweight champion Paul Williams (39-2, 27 KO’s) will be returning to the ring on April 30th for his first fight after being viciously knocked out in the 2nd round in a failed attempt to capture the WBC middleweight crown against champion Sergio Martinez on November 20th, 2010. In hindsight, it was perhaps the wrong move for the skinny 6’3″ Williams to attempt to fight Martinez for a second time after struggling badly and beating him by a controversial 12 round decision in their first fight in December 2009.
Paul Williams needs to fight Sergio Martinez again to prove that the loss was just a fluke
By Chris Williams: I think it’s really important for Paul Williams (39-2, 27 KO’s) to get back on the horse that threw him and get back in the ring with WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (46-2-2, 25 KO’s) to prove to himself, Martinez and boxing fans that Williams’ 2nd round knockout loss to Martinez in the November was just a fluke thing.
Berto needs someone like Paul Williams, not Marquez
By Michael Lieberman: It was reported that WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-0 21 KO’s) likes the idea of facing little lightweight Juan Manuel Marquez in 2011. I think that would be a terrible idea if Berto wants to be taken seriously as a fighter.
