De La Hoya says he wants Golovkin-Lemieux winner to face Cotto-Canelo winner

golovkin9999(Photo credit: Will Hart, K2 Promotions) By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya says that when he made the fight between his fighter IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) and WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) for October 17th, he made it with the thought in mind to have a mini-middleweight tournament with the winner of the Golovkin-Lemieux fight to face the winner of the November 21st fight between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and former WBA/WBC 154lb champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

De La Hoya says if he gets his way, there will be an ultimate winner of those fights. However, De La Hoya has no control over Cotto, who is promoted by Roc Nation Sports, and it’s unclear whether Cotto will choose to face the Golovkin-Lemieux winner if he gets past Canelo.

Mosley wants rematches against Canelo, Cotto, De La Hoya, Mayweather & Pacquiao

mosley2312By Dan Ambrose: 43-year-old former three division world champion Shane Mosley (47-9-1, 39 KOs) has won only one fight in the past five years dating back to 2010, yet he wants rematches against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquiao and Winky Wright.

In other words, Wright wants rematches against guys he either was beaten by or had close victories. Interestingly enough, Mosley doesn’t see himself as a shot fighter despite the fact that he’s lost 4 out of his last 6 fights.

Do fighters always fight prime opposition?

dela43545By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: When somebody says, Salvador Sanchez, Alexis Arguello, Muhammad Ali, or Joe Louis, people automatically shout the word “greatness”. But the phrase “he fought the best in their prime” always comes out as well. That phrase can be played either way by people depending on the outcome of a fight or the person.

There have been fights that have taken place when both fighters were in their primes. Sometimes it takes place when one or the other is in their prime. And sometimes a fight takes place when neither fighter are in their primes.

De La Hoya wants Bradley to face Sadam Ali next

bradley222By Dan Ambrose: Now that Tim Bradley (32-1-1, 12 KOs) has beaten Jessie Vargas (26-1, 9 KOs) to win the interim WNBO welterweight title, Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya wants Bradley to face Golden Boy fighter, #3 WBO, #6 WBA, #7 IBF, #12 WBC, Sadam Ali (22-0, 13 KOs) next in his first defense of his title.

The 26-year-old Ali has beaten Francisco Santana and Luis Carlos Abregu in his last two fights to put himself in position for a title shot.

De La Hoya decides against coming out of retirement

delahoya6By Dan Ambrose: After meeting with his family and having a long talk with them about whether or not he should return to the ring after seven years of retirement, “Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya has decided not to return to the ring with a comeback. For De La Hoya, this is the second time in the past month that he’s said that he won’t be returning to the ring, so it’s hard to know for sure whether he’ll stick to his guns.

De La Hoya changed his mind recently after posting an Instagram message saying that he’ll never come back. But within days, De La Hoya was back at it talking about a comeback. But perhaps it’s different now that De La Hoya has met with his family about the subject of him coming back.

De La Hoya still insisting Lemieux take mandatory defense for next fight

delahoya789By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya is still insisting that his fighter IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux has a mandatory defense that he needs to get out of the way first in his next fight despite Tom Loeffler, the promoter for WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs), having made contact with the International Boxing Federation and being told that the Golovkin vs. Lemieux fight can go ahead next rather than Lemieux’s mandatory defense.

De La Hoya’s insistence that the Lemieux must fight his IBF mandatory next comes across like De La Hoya prefers that he take that fight rather than taking a risky fight against Golovkin that Lemieux could very well lose.

Starting off my Oscar Speech with a “You have nothing to Prove, but….”

delahoya789By Shaun La: Oscar De La Hoya left professional boxing with an exit that made his hardcore fans concerned when he was going thru the battering and energetic Manny Pacaquiao’s heavy punching offense. Yet, Oscar had nothing to be ashamed of by losing his last professional boxing bout.

A champion and marketable boxer who always showed respect to his opposition, while acknowledging the sport of boxing for allowing him to be financially wealthy and represent the coolly marketable name, The Golden Boy with a prestige aura. He went from the Olympics to millions of dollars being contractually paid for his boxing services—-what else is missing?

De La Hoya: Lemieux won’t fight Golovkin until 2016

lemieux74By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya says that his fighter IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) won’t be facing WBA champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) until late 2016, because Lemieux has a mandatory defense that he needs to take care of at the end of 2015.

The opponent for Lemieux’s mandatory will come down to Sam Soliman, Eamonn O’Kane or Tureano Johnson. For Lemieux’s sake, he had better hope that it’s not Johnson because he could prove to a very, very tough opponent for him.

Hatton worried about De La Hoya getting hurt against Golovkin

hatton555By Scott Gilfoid: Ricky Hatton doesn’t think it’s such a good idea for 42-year-old Oscar De La Hoya to face a slugger like WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) in his first fight of his potential comeback. De La Hoya has been saying over and over again that he only wants to fight the very best when or if he comes back, and he only wants Golovkin or Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Hatton, who is no stranger to ill-advised comebacks of his own, thinks that De La Hoya isn’t a real middleweight, and that he could be in trouble if he comes back to face a knockout artist like Golovkin.

Golovkin wants De La Hoya, fight would be at 154

golovkin64By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) says that he’ll take the fight with 42-year-old Oscar De La Hoya, and that he’ll take the fight “immediately” if the aging “Golden Boy” De La Hoya truly wants to fight him. However, for Golovkin to take the fight, he would have to agree to melt down to 154, because that’s the weight that De La Hoya wants the fight to take place at, according to ESPN.com.

Golovkin previously said that he’d come down to 154 for a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. but only against him. But it’s likely that Golovkin would be agreeable to facing De La Hoya at this weight as well, because it’s not as De La Hoya would be any kind of threat to beat him given his advanced age, the time off he’s had from the sport, and his poor showing before he retired in 2008.
