Mayweather: If Canelo gets out of line, I’ll beat him again

canelo7657(Canelo Alvarez seen here at the post-fight press conference after being beaten by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013. Canelo doesn’t look like a happy camper, does he?) By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. took some big shots at Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya and his flagship fighter WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last Saturday night.

Mayweather says that De La Hoya is counting on Canelo on being his money fighter. However, if he gets too uppity, he’ll come back and beat him again like he did in their one-sided fight in 2013. Mayweather won that fight by an easy 12 round majority decision in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather says he prefers to work with guys that are drug free like Richard Schaefer and Al Haymon. He likes them because they dress like men. Mayweather is obviously taking a shot at De La Hoya over the photos that leaked out years ago showing him wearing fishnet pantyhose.

De La Hoya wants 90/10 split for Canelo-Golovkin fight

delahoya1By Dan Ambrose: In a huge sign that we might not be seeing a unification fight this year in between IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and WBC belt holder Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes Canelo, says that negotiations would start with Canelo getting a 90-10 money split for a fight against Golovkin if he gets his way.

De La Hoya sees the 25-year-old Canelo as the bigger name than Golovkin and the main draw for a pay-per-view fight on HBO. Because of that, De La Hoya justifies the 90-10 money split, which would be hugely tilted in Canelo’s favor.

De La Hoya fires back at Mayweather’s claim of racism in boxing

delahoya5By Allan Fox: Recently, Floyd Mayweather Jr. commented about his beliefs that there is racism that exists in the sport of boxing. He believes that guys like Gennady Golovkin is being given a free pass by being able to call out smaller fighters than himself without being called on it by the fans and the media.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya responded back to Mayweather, saying there is no racism in boxing. De La Hoya said to ESPN Deportes that fans will either like your style of fighting or they won’t. If you run around the ring, then they won’t like your style of fighting.

De La Hoya wants Canelo vs. Khan

delahoya5By Dan Ambrose: Now that the World Boxing Council has given WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) permission to take a voluntary defense of his WBC 160lb title in the first five months of 2016, Canelo’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions is already looking at finding an opponent for his young 25-year-old Canelo to fight.

De La Hoya says he already has three fighters in mind that he will be looking to select from in January. One name that De La Hoya says he is interested in is 29-year-old Amir Khan, a former IBF/WBA 140lb champion.

De La Hoya says he loves the idea of putting Canelo in with Khan, as he thinks it would be a fan-friendly fight filled with action from start to finish.

Is De La Hoya avoiding Canelo vs. GGG clash?

de la hoya84By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: This is the beauty about boxing. It’s unpredictable. And sometimes my theories on things are wrong, but I enjoy attempting so here we go. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez win over Miguel Cotto for the WBC middleweight title was big, but it also put Canelo in direct line to face mandatory challenger Gennady Golovkin (GGG, aka Trip).

So far Oscar De La Hoya has been mum on his next move. However, his moves could be decided for him by the WBC if he doesn’t make up his mind. Canelo has 15 days to decide to fight Trip or be stripped of his title. My spidey senses tell me Oscar is trying to maneuver around that mandatory bout. Enter Floyd Mayweather.

Oscar Officially “Marinates” Canelo vs. Golovkin…

canelo93(Photo credit: Tom Hogan – Hoganphotos/Roc Nation Sports/Golden Boy Promotions) By J Caldwell: Theoretically, a “possible” bout between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1 32 KOs) and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs) should be taking place in the spring of 2016. What you’d see on paper with a fight between these two combatants is this: 1) Both fighters would be coming-off their two most impressive victories to date; 1) Both fighters, presumably, would be at the peaks of their boxing careers (25 for Canelo, and a respective 34 for Golovkin); and last, but certainly not least 3) Both fighters would be highly ambitious enough to test-out their skills on to one another. “If you want me to fight him [Golovkin] now, I’ll put the gloves on and fight him now. He’s a great champion, but right now I’ll put the gloves on and fight him,” Canelo said last night following his rather impressive win over a game Cotto at the Mandalay Bay Casino, Las Vegas, NV.

De La Hoya: Canelo-Cotto delivered an exciting night of boxing

delahoya744By Chris Williams: Promoter Oscar De La Hoya thinks that last night’s fight between his fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) and Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) delivered a great fight to the fans compared to the disappointment of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight that took place earlier this year in May in the “Fight of the Century” in Las Vegas, Nevada.

De La Hoya says that the fans were on their feet cheering the action in the Cotto-Canelo fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Canelo won the fight by a 12 round unanimous decision by a set of wide scores on HBO PPV.

De La Hoya: Canelo is ready for Mayweather

canelo95By Dan Ambrose: While the entire boxing world was busy talking up a fight between Gennady Golovkin and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last night following Canelo’s 12 round unanimous decision win over 35-year-old Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) in Las Vegas, Nevada, Canelo’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya seemed to have other ideas, saying that there’s a lot of other big fights out there potentially for the 25-year-old Canelo other than a fight against Golovkin.

One of those fights is a rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs). De La Hoya said that they will take the fight with Mayweather in May if he chooses to come back and agrees to fight Canelo.

De La Hoya won’t commit to Canelo vs. Golovkin fight

de la hoya555By Dan Ambrose: After Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) defeated Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) tonight by a 12 round unanimous decision to win the vacant WBC middleweight title, Canelo said that he’ll fight IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) next if that’s what the boxing fans want from him.

However, it looks now like Canelo spoke too soon, because his promoter Oscar De La Hoya, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, said at the post-fight press conference that there are other fights for Canelo at 154 and 160. De La Hoya said they’ll be sitting down with Canelo to decide on who his next opponent should be.
