By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya surprised some of the media earlier on Wednesday by saying his fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) will be the pound-for-pound king by either the end of 2017 or by 2018. De La Hoya is obviously counting on Canelo getting a big boost in the pound-for-pound ratings with a win Gennady Golovkin as well as a victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Should Golovkin listen to De La Hoya’s warnings about June 10 fight?

Image: Should Golovkin listen to De La Hoya’s warnings about June 10 fight?

By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya is saying that Gennady Golovkin could cause the Saul Canelo Alvarez fight to be put in jeopardy if he fights Billy Joe Saunders on June 10. The thought behind what De La Hoya is saying is that Golovkin could suffer an injury in the fight with Saunders, and that cut cause the September fight with Canelo to be canceled. De La Hoya is also concerned with limited about of time to promote the Canelo-Golovkin fight if Golovkin faces Saunders on June 10.

By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. could possibly face UFC star Conor McGregor this summer if the fight gets made, but Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya has doubts that it will ever happen. De La Hoya sees the Mayweather-McGregor fight as being embarrassing for McGregor, and not good for UFC organization. Rather than fight Mcgregor, which De La Hoya sees as a disrespect to boxing, De La Hoya has a suggestion for Floyd. He thinks he should fight a rematch with Saul Canelo Alvarez at 160.

Image: De La Hoya says Golovkin must accept "generous" offer for Canelo fight

By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya says he’s given middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) a generous offer to fight his star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) this September. The offer from De La Hoya is based on Golovkin’s pay-per-view numbers from his last fight against Daniel Jacobs on March 18th. Golovkin-Jacobs pulled in 170K PPV buys on HBO. De La Hoya says he’s revised his original offer he’d made to Golovkin due to his low numbers for the Jacobs’ fight.

By Jim Dower: Oscar De La Hoya has pulled the verbal $15 million flat fee offer that he had previously made to Gennady Golovkin for a fight against his fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in September. This comes after the reports of Golovkin’s low pay-per-view numbers on HBO for his fight last Saturday night against Daniel Jacobs. The new offer that De La Hoya will be giving to Golovkin will be based on pay-per-view sales for the Canelo fight rather than a guaranteed purse.

By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya says that if Gennady Golovkin goes ahead and fights Billy Joe Saunders for his WBO middleweight title in June, it would be disrespectful to them and his fighter Saul Canelo Alvarez. De La Hoya wants Golovkin to sit idle waiting for the fight in September against Canelo, because he thinks it will be too risky and could get in the way of the Canelo fight.

Image: De La Hoya: Canelo won’t give Golovkin respect

By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya is saying that Saul Canelo Alvarez won’t be giving Gennady Golovkin any respect when/if he faces him in 2017. De La Hoya saw Golovkin’s fight last Saturday night against Daniel Jacobs and he thinks that the “Miracle Man” Jacobs gave him too much respect. De La Hoya says GGG can expect no respect from Canelo in the future. However, De La Hoya also says that the odds of the Canelo-Golovkin fight taking place are now lower after his fight with Jacobs last Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.

By Chris Williams: Middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s fight against Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs last Saturday night failed to bring in the large pay-per-view numbers on HBO that some had hoped. According to Lance Pugmire, the Golovkin-Jacobs fight brought in a range of 130,000 to 150,000 pay-per-view buys on HBO. These are unofficial numbers though. HBO still hasn’t announced the official numbers for the fight. The 150K would equal the PPV numbers Golovkin’s fight against David Lemieux pulled in two years ago in 2015.

De La Hoya: Golovkin’s chances for Canelo fight decreased after Jacobs match

Image: De La Hoya: Golovkin’s chances for Canelo fight decreased after Jacobs match

By Allan Fox: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya says middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) didn’t help his chances of making the fight his top guy Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) after his narrow 12 round unanimous decision win over Daniel Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) last Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York. De La Hoya still wants to make the Canelo-Golovkin fight but he feels that Golovkin’s promoters at K2 will need to give in to Canelo in the negotiations for the fight to get made. De La Hoya says that Canelo is the proven A-side in the negotiations. The Canelo-Golovkin negotiations will be resuming this week for their proposed fight in September on HBO PPV.

By Dan Ambrose: The May 6th fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) is viewed by Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya as the bigger fight than Canelo vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Canelo and Chavez Jr. will be fighting on HBO PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

De La Hoya says there are only a couple hundred tickets remaining for the fight. He’s calling a sellout right now. Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. probably will sellout well before May 6, but that doesn’t mean that the fight is a bigger one than a potential match between Canelo and Golovkin.
