Dibella: Macklin has good chance of beating Golovkin

macklin444By Scott Gilfoid: Lou Dibella, the promoter for Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20 KO’s), thinks he has a great chance of beating unbeaten WBA World middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (26-0, 23 KO’s) in their fight on June 29th at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort, in Mashantucket, Connecticut, USA.

Dibella said to RingTV “I believe my guy [Macklin] has an excellent chance of winning this fight. This is the biggest fight of Golovkin’s career. [Gabriel] Rosado had some success against ‘GGG’ by pushing him backwards. Macklin is a whole lot bigger and stronger than Rosado.”

Macklin promising to KO Golovkin on June 29th in Mashantucket, Connecticut, USA

329(Photo credit GeoIMAGEZ) By Scott Gilfoid: Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20 KO’s) says he’s going to not only beat WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (26-0, 23 KO’s) when he meets him on June 29th, but he’s also going to knock him out as well in their fight at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort, in Mashantucket, Connecticut, USA.

Macklin said this at his press conference today with Golovkin: “He is going to lose on June 29th…I am going to knock GGG out…I am by far the biggest puncher he has ever fought in his life.”

Macklin the biggest puncher that Golovkin has faced? I think not. Golovkin has fought Andre Dirrell, Grzegorz Proksa, Lucian Bute and Matt Karobov, to name just a tiny handful of guys that have more power than Macklin does.

In just looking over Golovkin’s amateur career, I can see 10 other fighters with arguably better power than Macklin and the only reason I didn’t list them here is because I don’t want my entire article to be one long list of fighters with better power than Macklin.

Macklin: I am going to knock Golovkin out on June 29th

NEW YORK CITY (April 13, 2013) – Earlier this afternoon in front of a jam-packed room of media at NYC’s historic Gallagher’s Steak House in midtown Manhattan, K2 Promotions and DiBella Entertainment hosted the initial press conference to announce the highly-anticipated Middleweight Championship between defending champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (26-0, 23KO’s) and Ireland’s top-rated, former world title challenger Matthew “Mack The Knife” Macklin (29-4, 20KO’s).

Macklin: I’m more suited to brawling than Golovkin

martinez4545By Scott Gilfoid: Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20 KO’s) feels like he’s the more experienced fighter than WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (26-0, 23 KO’s) and he sees himself beating him in their fight on June 29th at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort, Mashantucket, Connecticut, USA.

Oddly enough, Macklin thinks he’s a better slugger than Golovkin even though his resume doesn’t suggest that with his knockout losses to Sergio Martinez and Jamie Moore. If Macklin can’t even beat Moore then how is he going to be able to out-slug a superior fighter like Golovkin?

Golovkin-Macklin a done deal for June 29th in Mashantucket, Connecticut

golovkin22By Scott Gilfoid: Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20 KO’s) will be getting a shot at the title on June 29th at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. That’s the good news. The bad news is that Macklin will be fighting WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (26-0, 23 KO’s), who may be the best middleweight in the entire division.

A lot of boxing fans believe that to be true, and I can’t think of any that see the 30-year-old Macklin as being the best fighter in the division. In fact, Macklin is a struggling fighter at this point in his career with him having lost two out of his last three fights in the past two years.

Macklin had this to say about Golovkin: “He’s probably the most hyped fighter in the sport right now. People have made him out to be this monster.”

Golovkin vs. Macklin close to being finalized for June 29th

golovkin1By Scott Gilfoid: The talked about fight between WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (26-0, 23 KO’s) and #3 WBC, #14 IBF, Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20 KO’s) is close to being finalized for June 29th according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. The two fighters have agreed to the particulars and the fight should be finalized by the end of this week.

There still isn’t a venue for the fight, but it could take place at the Foxwoods resort in Mashantucket, Connecticut. It wouldn’t be a home fight for either guy, so there’s no advantage for either fighter. Macklin is from the UK, while Golovkin is from Kazakhstan but lives in Stuttgart, Germany.

As far as the co-feature goes, unbeaten super middleweight talent Thomas Oosthuizen (21-0-1, 13 KO’s) will be facing undefeated Brandon Gonzalez (17-0, 10 KO’s). That fight is still in the negotiation stage but it’s looking good for June 29th.

Golovkin vs. Macklin in the works for 6/29 in New York

macklin56556By Scott Gilfoid: Negotiations are reportedly underway for a fight between WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (26-0, 23 KO’s) and #2 WBC, #14 WBA Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20 KO’s) for June 29th at a still to be determined venue in New York.

Macklin, 30, won’t be getting the fight that he wanted against former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. so he’s going to have to settle for facing the hard hitting 30-year-old Golovkin instead.

Golovkin vs. Macklin possible for June

golovkin22By Scott Gilfoid: WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (26-0, 23 KO’s) and #2 WBC, #11 WBA, #14 IBF Matthew Macklin (26-4, 23 KO’s) are being talked about for a fight that will take place in June, according to Steve Kim. Macklin has been given an offer for the fight.

The word is he’s concerned about inactivity because he hasn’t fought since last September when he blew out Joachim Alcine in one round in a mismatch. Macklin has since had nose surgery to repair a problem with his nose.

Before that, Macklin hadn’t fought since being stopped in the 11th round in March of last year. The fight against Alcine was a mismatch going in and it’s not surprising that Macklin stopped that guy because he was blown out by the slow as molasses Alfredo Angulo in 1 round a couple years earlier.

Chavez Jr. to fight on June 22nd against Macklin or Vera

chavez423By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) says he’ll be back in the ring on June 22nd against Brian Vera (22-6, 13 KO’s) or Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20 KO’s) in Mexico. Chavez Jr. says he’ll be staying with his trainer Freddie Roach. Chavez Jr. had been trainer shopping after his loss to Sergio Martinez, but he’s decided to stay with Roach.

Chavez Jr. is currently still serving a suspension for testing positive for marijuana from his last fight against Sergio Martinez last September. The suspension ends on June 16th.

What’s interesting about Chavez Jr’s June 22nd fight on HBO is that his promoter Bob Arum is running it against Showtime’s arguably much bigger fight on the same night between Adrien Broner and WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi.
