Macklin: I’m more suited to brawling than Golovkin

martinez4545By Scott Gilfoid: Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20 KO’s) feels like he’s the more experienced fighter than WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (26-0, 23 KO’s) and he sees himself beating him in their fight on June 29th at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort, Mashantucket, Connecticut, USA.

Oddly enough, Macklin thinks he’s a better slugger than Golovkin even though his resume doesn’t suggest that with his knockout losses to Sergio Martinez and Jamie Moore. If Macklin can’t even beat Moore then how is he going to be able to out-slug a superior fighter like Golovkin?

Macklin said to RingTV “Stylistically, he suits me more than Sergio Martinez…I’m probably the more seasoned professional…It’s probably going to turn into a war at the end, and I’m more suited to that.”

I think Macklin is delusional if he believes that Golovkin suits him more than Martinez. The hard hitting Golovkin is the far worse fight for him because he’s a bigger puncher than Martinez and he’s a lot more willing to mix it up compared to Martinez.

If Macklin truly believes that he’s more suited to a war than Golovkin then I imagine Macklin won’t be ruining from him like he was against Sergio Martinez, and if that’s the case then Macklin will get knocked out as quickly as Golovkin’s recent victim Nobuhiro Ishida was.

If Macklin stands and trades with Golovkin, he’ll be another Ishida or Grzegorz Proksa. I rate Proksa as a better puncher and more difficult opponent than Macklin, and yet Golovkin stopped him in the 5th round last September in a fight where Golovkin knocked Proksa down three times in the fight.

Macklin is not a better slugger than Golovkin and he’s not suited to that type of fighting. The only think that Macklin can do is run if he wants to survive. Macklin can only ape Gabriel Rosado, a fighter that ran for his life for six rounds before getting knocked out in the 7th by Golovkin last January.

If Macklin uses that fight a blueprint to spoil and just survive, then he might make it to the 7th like Proksa, but he won’t see the 12th round. Golovkin will catch up to Macklin and knock him out at some point, and the fight will be totally one-sided from start to finish for Golovkin.
