Is Mayweather better than Sugar Ray Robinson?

1-03By TS123169: If there is anything that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is better at than boxing, it has to be sparking controversy, and it’s usually over something he said.

Mayweather’s recent comments about Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali are no exception. “No one can ever brainwash me to make me believe that Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali was better than me,” Mayweather said via ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith’s First Take. “No one could ever brainwash me and tell me that.”

Mayweather vs Pacquiao SUPERFIGHTBy Chris Williams: When Manny Pacquiao enters the ring on May 2nd at what could be a completely empty MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada to face Floyd Mayweather Jr., Pacquiao is going to be the much smaller fighter in terms of height and reach.

Mayweather, 5’8”, will be coming into the fight with a two inch height and a whopping six inch reach advantage over the 5’6” Pacquiao. For some reason Pacquiao doesn’t see this as being a disadvantage for him.

Pacquiao’s teleconference canceled, Arum not happy

Bob ArumBy Chris Williams: Monday’s teleconference call for 36-year-old Manny Pacquiao to speak with the boxing press fell apart under the strain of too many members of the media that reportedly overwhelmed the conference call system.

According to Dan Rafael, Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum didn’t want to do a conference all like this with a large number of media members. Instead, Arum wanted a small select group of media from only the largest outlets to ask Pacquiao the questions rather than from all members of the media.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao only 12 days away

LAS VEGAS (April 20, 2015) — It has often been said that “as the heavyweight division goes, so goes boxing,” but that has not always been the case and, in fact, might not even be valid when viewed from a comprehensive perspective dating back to the late 19th century. In Boxing, German author Bertram Job’s epic, 420-page coffee-table dissertation on all aspects of the sweet science, he writes that, “Elegance is the trademark of the slim and nimble stars in the under 147-pound weight class that has attracted insiders and admirers of beauty like no other.”

1-_DSC8268By Chris Williams: Former Manny Pacquiao victim Brandon Rios has great respect for the skills of Pacquiao, but he still thinks that he’ll ultimately come up short next month against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their mega fight in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rios was mesmerized by Pacquiao’s hand speed and talent when they faced each other in November 2013. Rios tried his best, but he was just too painfully slow of hand and foot.

Chavez: Pacquiao shouldn’t focus on God, should instead become a demon for Mayweather fight

Manny PacquiaoBy Allan Fox: Boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez believes that WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao needs to change his focus from religion to becoming a demon when he gets inside the ring with WBA/WBC 147 pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their unification match next month.

Chavez couldn’t miss the fact that Pacquiao is focused on God frequently. Chavez thinks he’s going to need to go on the attack with a demon-like personality when faces Mayweather because he feels that he’ll need a knockout for him to get the ‘W’ against the 38-year-old Mayweather.

Mayweather doesn’t believe Ali or Sugar Ray Robinson were better than him

1-25By Chris Williams: For a lot of people they see former WBA/WBC heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali (56-5, 37 KOs) and former two division world champion Sugar Ray Robinson (173-19-6, 108 KOs) as the greatest fighters that ever lived.

Those guys were certainly good, but they came from a different era and both of them tended to get hit a lot, and they both were beaten many times during their careers. WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26 KOs) doesn’t believe for a second that Ali and Robinson were better than him.

Khan: If I don’t fight Mayweather and Pacquiao soon it’ll be too late

khan343444By Scott Gilfoid: With Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao both getting older and nearing retirement, Britain’s Amir Khan (30-3, 19 KOs) is starting to worry that he’s running out of time to get a fight against both of them. Khan, 28, wants to be the one that gives Mayweather his first loss of his career, and he also would like to face Pacquiao before he retires.

Those two stars are facing each other on May 2nd, and will both be getting a bundle of cash for that fight. The kind of money that Mayweather and Pacquiao will be getting for their mega-fight in Las Vegas, Nevada is going to make it very, very hard for them to want to take a tremendous pay cut to fight someone like Khan, who doesn’t have the fan base in the United States that they do, and who doesn’t bring much to the table other than an ability to self-promote.
