Bradley wants to fight all the big names in boxing after Abregu bout

By Eric Thomas: Provided that he gets by unbeaten welterweight contender on July 17th, WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (25-0, 11 KO’s) says he wants to fight the big stars in the boxing world. Bradley, 26, is obviously referring to Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Andre Berto and Miguel Cotto. Also likely lumped in with those fighters are light welterweights like Devon Alexander and Amir Khan. However, the real big money fights for Bradley would be Pacquiao, Mayweather or Cotto. Those are the fights that Bradley needs if he wants to make a name for himself in the sport.

This was supposed to be a fight between the 26-year-old Bradley and the knockout artist WBA junior welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s).

By Jim Dower: World Boxing Organization light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (25-0, 11 KO’s) will be moving up in weight to take on top 10 ranked welterweight contender Luis Carlos Abregu (29-0, 23 KO’s) on July 17th in a non-title fight at the Agua Caliente Casino, in Rancho Mirage, California. Bradley, 26, was supposed to be fighting WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s). However, Maidana injured his back and needed to cancel the fight. Abregu, an exciting fighter with a lot of power and terrible defense, is ranked #5 WBC, #8 IBF and #10 in the WBO.

Bradley, 26, has been fighting on Showtime as of late. However, Showtime didn’t have him under contract, which enabled HBO to scoop him up for their network. This move should enable Bradley to be set up against other top light welterweights that HBO has been showing on their cable network, like Devon Alexander. For the time being, Bradley will be matched up with welterweight contender Luis Carlos Abregu (29-0, 23 KO’s) on June 26th.

Abregu wins by unanimous decision over Gutierrez

By Sam Gregory: In the co-main event on Showtime Championship Boxing at the Arena Monterrey in Nuevo Leon Mexico undefeated welterweight Luis Carlos Abregu fought Richard Gutierrez in a scheduled 10 round bout in the welterweight division.

In the opening round of this fight both Abregu and Gutierrez used their jab as range finders feeling their opponent out. Several punches were thrown by both men. Then in the first few seconds of the second round Abregu was caught with a solid left hook from Gutierrez that sent him to the canvas.

After controlling the first seven rounds mostly due to Estrada fighting cautiously, Abregu, ranked #7 in the World Boxing Council, faded badly, tiring out and spending the last three rounds running continuously and looking timid and afraid.
