Postol knocked Matthysse down with a right hand in the 10th. Matthysse then opted not to get back to his feet and he was counted out by referee Jack Reiss. Matthysse was rubbing his left eye while on the canvas. He said that his left eye was injured from the right hand that he was knocked down with.

“I can assure you this is not going to be my last knockout,” Postol said after the fight. “I took a few hard shots. I can take a punch. I was afraid that he was going to take a point away from me, but Freddie told me I could fight on the inside and throw short punches. It would be a pleasure to meet him [Terence Crawford in the ring. I want to prove myself to American boxing fans.”

Purses: Matthysse $500k, Postol $90k

matthysse5By Dan Ambrose: #2 WBC 140lb contender Lucas “Machine” Matthysse (37-3, 34 KOs) may not have the unbeaten record or the highest ranking going into tonight’s clash with #1 WBC Viktor Postol (27-0, 11 KOs), but what he will have is a big advantage in terms of the purse he’ll be getting for their fight on HBO Boxing at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Mathysse will be getting $500,000 compared to the 31-year-old Postol’s $90,000. But this is nothing compared to the money that the 33-year-old Matthysse could potentially get if his promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions sets him up with a fight against former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao in 2015.

Postol sees Matthysse as “revenge fight”

MATTHYSSE VS. POSTOL FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE(Photo credit: Hogan Photos) By Dan Ambrose: Undefeated Viktor Postol (27-0, 11 KOs) and his manager Vadim Kornilov see this Saturday’s Lucas Matthysse (37-3, 34 KOs) fight as a ”revenge fight” for the 31-year-old Postol to avenge Ruslan Provodnikov’s loss earlier this year in April to Matthysse.

Provodnikov took a beating in losing by a 12 round majority decision. It was his 3rd defeat in his last 4 fights. If Postol’s management is looking to avenge the defeats of Provodnikov, then they’re going to need to add Mauricio Herrera, Tim Bradley and Chris Algieri to their lists as well, because all three of those fighters also beat Provodnikov.

Khan could lose out on Pacquiao fight to Matthysse

MATTHYSSE VS. POSTOL FINAL PRESS CONFERENCEBy Scott Gilfoid: After all that yakking that Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) has been doing lately about him being the next opponent for Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs), it’s starting to look like it won’t be him that will be fighting the Filipino fighter in early 2016.

Golden Boy Promotion CEO Oscar De La Hoya has been talking to Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum about potentially matching Lucas Matthysse (37-3, 34 KOs) against Pacquiao next instead of Khan if Matthysse wins his fight this Saturday night against unbeaten Viktor Postol (27-0, 11 KOs) at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

De La Hoya: Matthysse must impress against Postol to get Pacquiao

1-edit10By Dan Ambrose: If #2 WBC Lucas Matthysse (37-3, 34 KOs) defeats #1 WBC Viktor Postol (27-0, 11 KOs) in an impressive fashion in their fight for the vacant WBA light welterweight title this Saturday night, Matthysse could wind up facing Manny Pacquiao in 2016, according to Matthysse’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions.

De La Hoya thinks that a fight for Matthysse against Pacquiao is definitely possible if Matthysse looks really good in beating the tall 5’11” Postol this Saturday night on October 3rd on HBO Championship Boxing from the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
