Peterson, 31, has no worries about Garcia being seen as the No.1 fighter in the 140 pound division, and having beaten the No.2 guy Lucas Matthysse two year ago in their fight in September 2013.

Danny Garcia: It’s important for me to look good against Lamont Peterson

garcia6655By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) is putting a tremendous amount of importance on his catch-weight fight this Saturday night against IBF 147lb belt holder Lamont Peterson (33-2-1, 17 KOs) on NBC Premier Boxing Champions.

Garcia realizes that the fight will be seen by a lot of boxing fans who may not have ever seen him fight before, and he wants to make a good first impression on these fans. Lamont Peterson is getting stopped early if he opens up against Danny Garcia, says Angel G

garcia65By Dan Ambrose: Angel Garcia, the trainer/father for WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs), thinks that IBF 140 pound champion Lamont Peterson (33-2-1, 17 KOs) is going to get stopped early in their fight this Saturday on April 11th if Peterson comes out swinging in their fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Angel sees Danny’s punching power as being too formidable for Peterson to be able to take if he walks into the teeth of Danny’s offense in their fight on NBC on Premier Boxing Champions (PBC). The Garcia-Peterson fight will be at a catch-weight of 143 pounds, which means that Garcia will have more punching power than he’s had in his normal fights at 140.

Danny Garcia vs. Lamont Peterson & Peter Quillin vs. Andy Lee official for April 11th

garcia100By Dan Ambrose: It’s now official now that Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) will be facing Lamont Peterson (33-2-1, 17 KOs) on April 11th in a catch-weight fight at 143 pounds in the “Premier Boxing Championship” series on NBC at 8:30 p.m E/T at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The fight is only scheduled for 10 rounds, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. One can only guess why the fight is only scheduled for 10 rounds instead of the normal 12 rounds, but it’s likely out of concern for Garcia to make sure he doesn’t gas out and look bad in a 12 round fight.

WBC gives Danny Garcia permission to face Lamont Peterson in 143lb catch-weight

garcia4By Dan Ambrose: In questionable move by the World Boxing Council, they’ve reportedly gave WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia permission to face IBF 140 pound champion Lamont Peterson on April 11th without the WBC 140 pound Lamont Peterson in a catch-weight fight at 143 pounds without either of their titles being on the line, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

It’s unclear why the WBC isn’t stripping Garcia of his title, given that this is his second consecutive fight where he’s not faced his mandatory or even an optional contender in the 140 pound opponent.
