Lamont Peterson vs Lucas Matthysse Preview

005APetersonandLPetersonIMG_3414(Photo credit: Casino/Showtime) By Peter Wells (twitter – @boxingpeter): Is this the start of a new era? Are we now staring at potential super fights, that will be talked about in years to come in the same breath as the Four Kings. Maybe not. But what some boxing enthusiasts and those who claim boxing is dead more times than Archie Moore had fights, are ignoring is that between the Light Welterweight division and the Light Middleweight division, there is a heap of potential fights that will only do boxing’s image good.

And to figure this out you’ll need a broad mind, so try looking outside of the Canelo-Mayweather box. Just try to imagine the potential fights between the likes of, Peterson, Berto, Ortiz, Khan, Canelo, Garcia, Trout and many more. These will make for thrilling fights and thrilling rivalries. But let me warn you. Don’t get your hopes up just yet.

Matthysse vs Peterson: The Victor needs an Iron Will

peterson43By Mohummad Humza Elahi: This weekend, Argentinian native Lucas Matthysse (33-2) will face Washington DC’s own Lamont Peterson (31-1) at the famed Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. In what could potentially be a Fight of the Year candidate, both men have points to prove and scores to settle, not necessarily with each other but the face that this was made at a catch-weight of 141lbs means that there’s mutual respect between the two.

Although that respect will likely be left in the dressing room come fight night. A lot of analysis and articles have already been written, but I would like to focus on the title as I believe this is where the real battle will lie and the winner here will win on the night.

This Saturday night, Peterson’s chin is going to be severely tested by Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO’s) in a 12 round bout at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The fight will take place at a catchweight of 141 lbs, although it’s likely that both guys will come in lower than that during the weigh-in.

Lucas Matthysse vs. Lamont Peterson: A must see!

matthysse3433By Sotoman: This weekend boxing fans across the globe will be treated to a great fight between light welterweights Lucas Matthysse and Lamont Peterson at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. This fight will bring boxing fans from both spectrum of the sport together, those who love the action fighters and those fans who enjoy the sweet science.

Despite the fact that both fighters enjoy trading shots and coming forward, Matthysse and Peterson can also box as proven in previous fights. Both fighters are looking to challenge or obtain a fight with Danny Garcia later this year with a win.

This win will not come easy for any of them. Matthysse and Peterson will both come in strong and with their sights set on winning. Peterson’s last fight against Kendall Holt was impressive in the sense that Peterson was relentless in coming forward, but an argument could be made that Holt was drained in weight.

Matthysse vs. Peterson at 141 lb. catch-weight on May 18th at Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City

1330By Allan Fox: On May 18th, IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (31-1-1, 16 KO’s) will be defending his title in one of his toughest fights of his 9-year pro career against Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO’s) at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA.

Interestingly enough, the fight will take place at a catch-weight of 141 pounds. Presumably this is a move to accommodate Matthysse because he looked pretty big after rehydrating in his last fight against Mike Dallas Jr. last January. Matthysse ran Dallas Jr. down in stopping him in the 1st round.
