Chisora attacks Kubrat Pulev during face off

chisora77By Scott Gilfoid: In an incident that looked totally staged, British heavyweight Dereck Chisora (25-5, 17 KOs) attacked 34-year-old former world title challenger Kubrat Pulev (22-1, 12 KOs) earlier today during a face off at their press conference at the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten, in beautiful Hamburg, Germany.

During the face off, the two fighters had their heads pressed against each other like a couple of old goats. It’s unclear why Pulev would put himself at risk in doing the Billy goat head pressing bit, but he went along with it.

Moments later, Chisora grabbed Pulev from around the back of his head and briefly tried to force him down in a failed wrestling move. Having personally competed in that sport in High school, I must say Chisora’s wrestling move was incredibly amateurish. I mean, if you are going to try for a take down, it’s best to go for the legs.

Dereck Chisora vs. Kubrat Pulev this Saturday in Germany

pulev42By Scott Gilfoid: Former heavyweight world title challenger Derek Chisora (25-5, 17 KOs) will be battling the taller 6’4 ½” Kubrat “The Cobra” Pulev (22-1, 12 KOs) this Saturday night on May 7 for the vacant EBU heavyweight title at the Barclaycard Arena, in Hamburg, Germany. These guys are kind of long in the tooth to be fighting for the EBU title. I don’t know they agreed to fight for a title like that at their age. If I were an old pro like them, I would tell the EBU, ‘No thanks. You can keep your EBU strap. I’m fighting for ranking at the world stage and to get a payday fight against Anthony Joshua.’ That pretty should be the goal for old timers like Chisora and Pulev.

The fight has big time ramifications for #8 IBF Chisora because it will give Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn an excuse to match his fighter IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) against him on Sky Box Office PPV.

Without a good excuse to make that fight, Hearn would be matching Joshua against Chisora off the back of five wins over 3rd tier fodder opponents that Chisora has complied in the last year since his one-sided 10th round stoppage loss to Tyson Fury in 2014.

Chisora: I’m going to KO Pulev

chisora66By Scott Gilfoid: Former world title challenger Dereck Chisora will be fighting once beaten previous world title challenger Kubrat Pulev for the vacant EBU heavyweight title on May 7 at the Barclaycard Arena, in Hamburg, Germany.

Chisora, 32, sees the 35-year-old Pulev as a flawed fighter that has no clue in how to fight. Further, Chisora thinks Pulev has been coddled by his promoters with him being matched against a lot of soft opposition during his career.

Whatever the case, the two former world title challenger losers will be fighting each other next month, and both are in the same boat. Chisora is no better off than Pulev other than him being in a position to get a payday fight against IBF champion Anthony Joshua if he wins the fight.

Chisora in difficult fight against Pulev

chisora22By Scott Gilfoid: After winning his last five fights against nondescript opponents, #12 WBC, #12 WBO, #13 IBF Dereck Chisora (25-5, 17 KOs) will be in the lion’s den to face a very good heavyweight in #3 WBC Kubrat Pulev (22-1, 12 KOs) at the Barclaycard Arena, in Hamburg, Germany. Pulev and Chisora will be fighting for the vacant EBU heavyweight title in this fight.

As I mentioned previously in another article, it’s an odd move for fighters the age of Chisora and Pulev to be ramming their careers into reverse to go after the EBU title, especially when the two fighters have already fought for a world – and lost – in the past.

It would make more sense for Chisora and Pulev just to keep winning fights so that they can eventually pick up a #1 ranking so that they can another world title shot. I mean, I don’t see either of them ever getting picked out for a voluntary shot; although Chisora was selected by Wladimir Klitschko in one of his voluntary defenses five years ago.

Chisora faces Pulev on 5/7 for EBU title

wladimir888By Scott Gilfoid: Two failed former world title challengers Kubrat Pulev (22-1, 12 KOs) and Dereck Chisora (25-5, 17 KOs) will be fighting for the vacant EBU heavyweight title on May 7 at the Barclaycard Arena, in Hamburg, Hamburg.

This is a fight that makes sense in terms of the match-up, as both fighters are now with Sauerland Events. Putting them in with each other is a no-brainer in house type of move.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a couple of rematches with them if their fight on May 7 turns out to be an exciting one. This might be as good as it gets for Pulev and Chisora. I mean, I can’t see either of them ever winning a world title. There are weak champions for these guys to pick off at the moment.

Chisora to face Pulev for EBU strap

chisora5By Scott Gilfoid: It looks like Anthony Joshua is out of luck for a fight against Dereck Chisora (25-5, 17 KOs) for his next fight. Chisora, 32, will be fighting former world title challenger Kubrat Pulev (22-1, 12 KOs) for the vacant EBU heavyweight title, according to the latest boxing news.

Instead of Joshua fighting Chisora, he could possibly be fighting in an IBF heavyweight eliminator bout against Carlos Takam (33-2-1, 25 KOs) in April. The winner of that fight would become the mandatory challenger to IBF champion Charles Martin.

Chisora stops Erdos; Pulev destroys Harris

By Scott Gilfoid: In a card filled with hopeless mismatches, struggling heavyweight Dereck Chisora (23-5, 15 KOs) got off on the right foot with his new promoters at Sauerland Events in destroying a horribly over-matched journeyman Peter Erdos (9-9-4 3 KOs) by a 5th round stoppage at the Inselparkhalle, Wilhelmsburg, in Hamburg, Germany.

Kubrat Pulev vs. George Arias on October 17th

pulevBy Tim Fletcher: #8 IBF heavyweight contender Kubrat Pulev (20-1, 11 KOs) will be looking to rebound from his 5th round knockout loss at the hands of IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko when he gets back inside the ring this month in less than two weeks from now on October 17th to face 41-year-old Brazilian journeyman George Arias (56-13, 42 KOs) in a scheduled 8 round fight at the DM-Arena, Karlsruhe, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Pulev, 34, has been out of action for the past 11 months since his loss to Klitschko almost a year ago. At Pulev’s age, it’s not the best thing to do in staying out of the ring for an entire year rather than getting back in there and fighting hard to get a high enough ranking for another world title shot.

Klitschko-Pulev brings in 10.5 million viewers on German TV

wladimir55By Allan Fox: The November 15th fight between IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs) and #1 IBF Kubrat Pulev (20-1, 11 KOs) reportedly was seen by 10.5 million boxing fans on German television, says Dan Rafael of ESPN.

That’s an incredible amount of fans to watch a sporting event. When you compare it to the amount of fans that typically watch one of Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Pacquiao’s fights in the U.S, it’s way above the numbers those guys bring in.
