Carl Frampton: I know I’m the smarter fighter than Kiko Martinez

frampton40By Scott Gilfoid: #2 IBF Carl Frampton (18-0, 13 KOs) will be challenging IBF super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez (31-4, 23 KOs) for his title on September 6th at the Titanic Quarter, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.

Frampton’s management was able to make it worthwhile for Kiko to fight in Frampton’s home country on 9/6 instead of Kiko’s home in Spain. You’ve got to hope that we don’t see a controversial decision in this fight because that would be a tragedy.

Frampton defeated Kiko last year in February in the 9th round when he caught him with a big shot while on the run. Frampton was having major problems with Martinez’s power, and had to get on his bicycle in order to keep from taking too much punishment during the exchanges.

rigondeaux66By Chris Williams: WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (13-0, 8 KOs) is already looking past his opponent for this Saturday night against 37-year-old Sod Looknongyangtoy (63-2-1, 28 KOs) towards some much, much bigger fights in the near future.

Rigondeaux wants to get rid of Looknongyangtoy, and then look to fight unification matches against IBF champion Kiko Martinez and WBC champion Leo Santa Cruz in the near future before moving up in weight to featherweight where there are a number of big named fighters for him to face such as Nonito Donaire, Vasyl Lomachenko, Jhonny Gonzalez, Abner Mares, Evgeny Gradovich and Nicholas Walters.

Frampton: I’ve already knocked out Kiko Martinez, so he can’t be confident

frampton40By Scott Gilfoid: #2 IBF Carl Frampton (18-0, 13 KO’s) thinks his previous win over IBF super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez (31-4, 23 KO’s) from last year has knocked the confidence out of the 28-year-old Spaniard as they head into their rematch on September 6th at the Titanic Quarter, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.

Frampton, 27, stopped Martinez in the 9th round after catching him with a shot he didn’t see in their fight in February of last year. Martinez was chasing Frampton around the ring to try and force him to fight, because Frampton had stopped going toe-to-toe with him early on after getting nailed with some massive head shots in the fight.

Kiko Martinez vs. Jeffrey Mathebula this Saturday, December 21st in Spain

martinez5634By Allan Fox: This Saturday night IBF super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez (29-4, 21 KO’s) will be making his first defense of his IBF title against #1 IBF Jeffrey Mathebula (27-4-2, 14 KO’s) at the Pabellon Esperanza Lag, Elche, Comunidad Valenciana, Spain.

Lampley wants Rigondeaux to face Romero-Martinez winner

rigondeaux111`By Chris Williams: Jim Lampley of HBO says he’d like to see WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux face the winner of Saturday’s fight on HBO between IBF super bantamweight champion Jhonatan Romero (23-0, 12 KO’s) and Kiko Martinez (28-4, 20 KO’s) at the Revel Resort, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA.

Lampley may not know this, but Martinez and Romero are huge steps down from the guy that Rigondeaux just beat in Nonito Donaire.

Lampley said to RingTV “In order to make Rigondeaux interesting in the division and in the ring as skills as he is and as dominant as he is, we need punchers to go at him. We need somebody who can go straight forward and challenge Rigondeaux stylistically.

Frampton: I’ll fight Quigg one of these days

frampton88By Scott Gilfoid: EBU super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (16-0, 11 KO’s) didn’t exactly sound motivated when he was asked last night if he would be interested in fighting interim WBA super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg in his next fight.

The look on Frampton’s face spoke volumes, as he immediately froze for a second before he finally spit out this answer: “Hopefully we’ll fight one of these days. It’s what the British people want; it’s bigger than [David] Price – [Tyson] Fury.”

At that point in the conversation, Frampton was quickly cut off by his promoter Eddie Hearn, who started getting animated, saying this and that about how Frampton is a huge star and how he sells out arenas. Hearn ended his frantic monologue with these words “Scott Quigg needs Frampton, that’s the difference.”

Hearn: Frampton is a “superstar” at 122

frampton55By Scott Gilfoid: Eddie Hearn, the promoter for EBU super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (16-0, 11 KO’s) is already calling the young 5’5” Frampton a superstar in the 122 pound division despite the fact that he struggled in beating Kiko Martinez last night in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Frampton constantly ran and clinched, and ducked below the waist to avoid getting hit. It was constant running and when he wasn’t running, he was clinching.

When Hearn was interviewed after the fight, he was like he was like a broken record, saying “He’s the superstar of the super bantamweight division.”

Superstar, eh? Frampton struggles to beat a 26-year-old Kiko Martinez by running all around the ring for 9 painful to watch rounds, and Hearn is calling him a superstar?
