Brook: Khan doesn’t want to give fans the fight they want to see

brook3By Scott Gilfoid: After working hard to try and get a fight against Brandon Rios and failing, IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) will be fighting No.4 IBF Diego Chaves (23-2-1, 19 KOs) on October 24th on Sky Sports from the Sheffield Arena, Sheffield, UK.

Instead of being happy that he’s finally got a fight scheduled, the 29-year-old Brook is harping about how Amir Khan isn’t giving boxing fans the fight they want to see by agreeing to fight him. Khan recently said that he wants to wait until Brook has beaten a couple of other well-known opponents so that their eventual fight will be much bigger than it would be if they were to face each other right now.

Diego Chaves: I will be making history if I defeat an Englishman in his own country

chaves33333By Scott Gilfoid: #4 IBF Diego Chaves (23-2-1, 19 KOs) says he wants to make history when he faces undefeated and untested IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) on October 24th at the Sheffield Arena, Sheffield, UK. Chaves sees himself making history by being an Argentinean and coming into England an beating and English fighter in front of his own fans.

Chaves had better be looking to score a knockout because he is the visiting fighter, and he’s coming into Brook’s home turf. We saw how Brook won a controversial 12 round majority decision over American Carson Jones three years ago in 2012 in Sheffield.

Kell Brook to fight Diego Chaves on October 24th in Sheffield

chaves444By Scott Gilfoid: Well, IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) isn’t getting the big name that he was hoping to get for his next fight, but he at least will be fighting an actual contender with a shred of talent for a change when he faces #4 IBF, #9 WBA Diego Chaves (23-2-1, 19 KOs) on October 24th in Sheffield, UK.

Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn is expected to make the announcement of the Brook-Chaves fight this week.

Hearn and Brook had been hoping to get the better known Brandon Rios for the fight, but they failed to agree on the money and the rematch clause for the fight. However, Chaves is a better fighter than Rios in my opinion.

Hearn keeping Chaves & Provodnikov in reserve as potential opponents for Brook

brook55666By Scott Gilfoid: If the negotiations between IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) and WBO 147lb champion Timothy Bradley (32-1-1, 12 KOs) don’t work out for whatever reason, Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn says he’ll look to match Brook against either #9 WBA, #11 WBO welterweight contender Diego Chaves (23-2-1, 19 KOs) or #4 WBO, #5 WBC, #8 WBA light welterweight contender Ruslan Provodnikov (24-4, 17 KOs).

The Bradley-Brook fight is the one that Hearn badly wants to make for October 24th in the UK, but if Hearn and Brook start talking nonsense about a rematch clause in the contract, then they could drive Bradley and Top Rank away from the negotiating table.

Tim Bradley vs. Kell Brook negotiations underway

brook100By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn and Top Rank are in negotiations to try and workout a fight between Hearn’s fighter IBF welterweight title holder Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) and the Top Rank promoted WBO welterweight champ Timothy Bradley (32-1-1, 12 KOs) in a bout for October this year.

I don’t know if it’s possible to get this fight done though, because both guys are difficult to work with. Brook recently insisted on a rematch clause for his contract against Brandon Rios, and that caused the negotiations to fizzle completely. It’s hard to say why Brook felt he needed a rematch clause against a fighter of Rios’ caliber because this should have been someone that he could beat, but the fact that he insisted on the rematch clause kind of tells you where Brook’s confidence level is at.

Khan should fight Brook, says Hatton

hatton939By Scott Gilfoid: Ricky Hatton doesn’t see any point in Amir Khan waiting round before getting the fight against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook out of the way. Khan says he wants Brook to build up their eventual fight by facing and beating a couple of top fighters in the 147lb division like Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, Marcos Maidana and/or Tim Bradley.

That doesn’t look like it’s ever going to happen unfortunately. Brook just finished fighting Jo Jo Dan and Frankie Gavin in back to back fights. Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn is reportedly interested in matching Brook against Diego Chaves, whose ring record in his last three fights is something like 1-1-1. That’s not too good, is it?

Khan: If Kell Brook’s not going to fight the big names…

brook9By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan dropped a big hint this week by reminding IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook that he was serious as a heart attack when he said he wanted him to out and fight a couple of big names and beat them before he’d agree to fight him next year in a mega-fight in the UK, possibly at Wembley Stadium.

However, it doesn’t look like Brook and his promoter Eddie Hearn are paying Khan any mind when it comes to the opposition that they’re looking to fight. Instead of Brook fighting a name like Tim Bradley and Marcos Maidana, both of which Khan mentioned as guys he Brook to fight, there’s talk that Brook will fight No.10 WBA Diego Chaves instead. I don’t know about you, but I don’t rate Chaves as a big name or even close to being a big name.

Porter sees Khan beating Brook, wants winner

porter6809By Scott Gilfoid: If and when Kell Brook and Amir Khan get around to fighting each other, former IBF 147lb belt holder Shawn Porter expects Khan to win the fight. Porter says he’ll then look to fight Khan afterwards. He’s open to fighting Brook if he wins too. Porter doesn’t care as long as he gets a chance to fight the winner of that fight.

Right now it’s still unclear whether Brook and Khan will actually be fighting in 2016. Khan told Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn that he’ll agree to fight Brook in 2016 if and only if Brook beats two high caliber fighters before that time.

Danny Garcia wants Khan or Kell Brook

IMG_7711(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Dan Ambrose: Now that former undisputed light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (30-0, 17 KOs) has moved up in weight to the welterweight division, he says he would like to fight Amir Khan and IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook if possible.

Garcia believes those would be big fights for him. However, they would have to take place in the United States because he’s not about to travel to the UK and deal with the high taxes over there.
